I think you hit upon something in your comment "I do not like Shelly as a player or a person per how she has been portrayed on TV." For you, you are enjoying the show and finding an enjoyable way to root for or against someone as you enjoy the show. However, there are obviously too many people that take the portrayal personally and then bring this into real life.

I think it's more a debate about what Shelly perceived to be the best move for her. I think she perceived there was no way that Jeff would ever have been defeated so therefore she never would have been in a F2 with Jordan (which based upon how the stronger players were playing was actually a fairly strong possibility) and she actually believed she could beat the folks on the other side (although she would actually be trading being led by Daniele). Sitting back, I really don't think she stood a snowballs chance in any scenario and should have stuck to the role as house mommy for her sanity.

I use the term "characters" because I don't for a second believe what you see on TV is what you would see in real life. (1) the participants craft a persona for the show, (2) it's hard for people not to change the behavior when they know they are on TV, (3) the nature of the game itself alters the percetions of the people participating and (4) I 100% believe that BB manipulates these people. I think a perfect example of this is the Rachel/Regan relationship. They spewed some pretty hateful stuff at one another but once they enter real life, they become close friends.

That's an interesting take for me. I guess I prefer more of a "game" rather than personalities (although you can't completely disregard it) and I wonder how much CBS/BB affect (script) what we see. As for Shelly, if you like the personality v. personality would her absence affect your enjoyment (it's hard to have a saint without a devil)?

Well, she created a character that was hard to like. I don't know if there has ever been anyone quite like her before (I don't have as much experience with the show as most people here). I couldn't understand how she was so far up Jordan's butt like a stalker and how intense she would discuss her "alliance." Also her reaction to Rachel was so extreme and it was all based on her inability to remember that she had asked Rachel/Brendon to be in a Final 3. Most of the players who float/stink at competitions aren't so forceful. She kind of ruins the show.

I have no problem with people hating or rooting for a character. I also don't think there's anything wrong with posting hyperbole or making fun of them on a forum/message board since they made themselves a public figure. However, to go after someone in real life once the character has left the show and has to deal with being a real person is pretty scary and downright unfair.

I guess I'm a little biased as well. By getting rid of Shelly, the show returns to being more of a game rather than some perverted, contrived soap opera (Real Housewives of Big Brother?). Plus, even if Adam got to the Final 3, it's pretty clear that he would have been dragged along and won't get many votes to win.

That's pretty sad. Considering some of the stuff people write on these boards, I wonder how community perceptions of them would be if their posts were widely known and they weren't hiding behind an Intenet name. Plus, I'm sure a lot of the same people may fare just as poorly on the show. I just hope she gets left alone and gets some psychological help after she gets out.

The really interesting thing is the fact they really need to start being careful about intervening in the game. After all, there is prize money and they have the audience text into the show which all involve money and all 50 states. Ultimately, does intervention become something of a fraud (like the Quiz Show scandal) or is it like professional wrestling?

Regardless of how BB may try to contrive some of the situations, Porche still had to open Pendora's box and Rachel still had to win. She will also still have to continue to win to have a shot at the final 2. Ultimately, if Adam and Shelly are eliminated, the final 4 till at least have some credibility in terms of being able to win something and having to cultivate relationships.

I can see your point in terms of looking at Shelly's actions separate from what Jeff & Jordan may or may not have done to her (she didn't know what they were doing?) and to her general manic behavior. I really wonder what the producers may have told her in the diary room to try and spice things up for their beloved Daniele.

I'm trying to look at things from here perspective. #1 She thinks she can't beat Jeff and without being able to beat him she cannot be in the Final 2. Next, she sees how they are tight with Adam and Rachel and that has to cause a question as to where she falls in the pecking order. #2 with the others she may feel that she had a better (some) shot at getting to final 2. Is her perspective off? Probably, because she probably wouldn't have been able to crack through Daniele/Kalia. With Daniele and Jeff gone, she definitely has a better chance but in the end she'll get stabbed in the back anyway (unless she finally wins the POV) but just can't see it.

I kind of look at it like they were both stupid for not actually getting together. If Jeff/Jordan/Rachel/Dani could have come back together and trusted one another, it would have been very difficult for them to be beat. Kalia would have been gone and based on the HoH competition for double-eviction, Jordan was ahead of the other floaters in at the end (without Kalia being there) and they would have been able to eliminate another one of the floaters.
