Dancing With The Stars ~ U.S. Season 20 Episode 1

The Season Premier of Dancing With The Stars starts with a recap board showing the past 10 seasons. This seasons cast members are shown with their names, and then the professional dancers are on the dance floor. The audience erupts in applause. Tom says, that's how you start a season of DWTS. The partners are introduced: Charlotte and Keo, Chris and Witney, Michael and Peta, Nastia and Derek, Noah and Sharna, Patti and Artem, Redfoo and Emma, Riker and Allison, Robert and Kym, Rumer and Val, Suzanne and Tony, and Willow and Mark.

 

Highlights and practice sessions are shown for Rumer Willis and Mark Ballas. They are dancing the CHA CHA to Lips Are Movin by Meghan Trainor. The audience gives loud applause. Len says, they are like a bottle of Alka Seltzer being bubbly. Julianne says, She may be the youngest competitor they have, but she has some sass. She says, it's well done for their first done. Bruno says, the odds are in their favor. He says, she is delightfully lovely, they need to be a bit sharper, and attack it more next time. Carrie Ann says, She shows age appropriate pizzazz, and she will go far. Tom says, the new phone numbers start with 855, and reminds everyone to vote for the couples. Erin says, she even got grumpy Len to give a great compliment. Willow says, she was in her own world, and thinks it went really well. She is happy. Erin says, since this is the shows 10 year anniversary, Willow was 4 years old when the show started, and they show a picture of her back then. Judges Scores: Carrie Ann - 6, Len - 6, Julianne - 6, Bruno - 7. Erin reminds everyone to vote, so they don't go home next week. Tom says, Bruno seemed happier with the score than everyone else did. Robert dances next, after the break.

 

Tom welcomes everyone back to the Season Premier. He says, in honor of the 10th Anniversary, the winners will receive the golden mirror ball trophy. Highlights and practice sessions are shown for Robert Herjavec and Kym Johnson. They are dancing the Cha Cha to Bills by LunchMoney Lewis.

 

The audience cheers loudly for them. Julianne says, she is completely blown away, and was not expecting that. She compliments Robert, and tells Kym it's so awesome to have her back. Bruno says, he was expecting a fierce competitor, and what he got was a flipper, and he did well. Carrie Ann says, it's not easy to come after a 14-year-old, and he was very crispy and clean. Len says, he was shocked. He says, he was a little light on his feet. He says, the scores may be a little lower tonight, but they will grow and grow. Erin welcomes Kym back, and recaps judges’ comments to Robert. He says, that's what every 50-year-old man wants to hear, jokingly. He says, he's having fun and loves it. Judges scores: Carrie Ann - 7, Len -7, Julianne - 7, and Bruno - 7 for a total of 28. Erin tells everyone to get their votes in. More to come after the break.

 

Tom welcomes everyone back to the Season Premier. Highlights and practice sessions are shown for Riker Lynch and Allison Holker. They dance the Jive to What I Like About You by the Romantics.

 

The audience goes wild for them, and Tom says, they have a couple hundred cheering fans out there. Bruno can hardly contain himself, and says, he's the rocket rocker, and he is on top of the judges table. He says, he's the best thing he's seen since Billy Idol. He can't wait for the dance next week, and he's brilliant. Carrie Ann says, she wouldn't call that graceful, but it was great. Len says, it was full on great, and he needs to refine some for the Foxtrot next week. Julianne says, she's so excited for this partnership. She says, this is the perfect combination of technicality and choreographer. The only thing she didn't love was his arms. Tom sends them to the sky box for their scores. He tells us again, that the new phone numbers start with 855. Erin says, Riker is related to Derek and Julianne. Riker says, they are cousins somehow, and he remembers going to Vegas to watch them compete. He says, Julianne got him on the dance floor to show him things to do. Judges scores: Carrie Ann - 8, Len - 7, Julianne - 8, and Bruno - 8 for a total of 31. Erin reminds everyone to vote. Tom says, there's more to come after the break to work out the first week jitters.

 

The Season Premier of DWTS returns with professional dancers on the dance floor. Tom says, welcome back to our Season Premier. Highlights and practice sessions are shown for Charlotte McKinney and Keo Motsepe. They dance the Jive to Shake A Tail Feather by Ray Charles with The Blues Brothers.

 

The audience erupts for them. Tom says, they are shaking their tail feathers. Carrie Ann says, they had a little trouble, but they are fun to watch. She likes the foot work and the musicality, and thinks they will do great. Len says, he enjoyed the way they came out. He says, they had a little trouble, but worked through it, and didn't let it show. Julianne says, it's hard for the taller girls with the long legs, so she needs to work on the legs. She says, the top half is great. Bruno says, it must take a monumental effort to carry America's most imposing frontage, and doing the Cha Cha Cha. He says, she did it, and is really pretty. He tells her to come back next week and do great. Tom says, we will see their scores, and more dancing, live, after the break.

 

Erin welcomes everyone back to DWTS. She says, we saw Charlotte and Keo dancing the Jive before the break, not the Cha Cha. Erin tells Charlotte they may need to talk to Robert about inventing something for her top half when the show is done, and everyone laughs. Judges scores: Carrie Ann - 6, Len - 5, Julianne - 5, and Bruno - 6 for a total of 22. Erin tells everyone to vote.

 

We see highlights and practice sessions for Patti LaBelle and Artem Chigvintsev. They dance the Foxtrot to Lady Marmalade by Patti LaBelle. The audience cheers for them, and gives them a standing ovation. Tom says, let's turn to our judges, while the audience is still erupting in cheers and applause. Len says, Patti LaBelle, you rung my bell, I'll tell ya. Tom says, that's one rusty bell. Len says, there was some naturalness to that, with such ease, very well done. Julianne says, when she dances, she is such a graceful goddess. She says, that dance spoke for itself, and it was beautiful. Bruno compliments her, and thanks her for being there. Carrie Ann asks Patti if she's o.k., because she's getting so emotional. Patti says, she doesn't know. Carrie Ann compliments her to the max, and said everything she did was fabulous. They are sent to the sky box for their scores. Tom says, they are going to bring back Disney Week this season.

 

Erin tells Patti what a great job she did, and asks why she wanted to be a part of this show? Patti says, because she is 70 years young. She wanted to show everyone what she can do, and she feels wonderful. Erin tells her that she did such a great job. Judges scores: Carrie Ann - 7, Len - 6, Julianne - 6, and Bruno - 6 for a total of 25. Erin says, one couple will be heading home next week, and reminds everyone to vote for them. We return to the ballroom with a pig hanging from the rear-view mirror of an old truck. Highlights and practice sessions are shown for Chris Soules and Witney Carson. They dance the Jive to Footloose by Kenny Loggins.

 

The audience goes crazy for them with a standing ovation. Chris Harrison is in the audience. Julianne says, she loves a country boy, and is a little biased, because she loves Footloose. She says, his feet were a little loose, but it was great and fun. Bruno says, earthy, rough, rugged, yet totally charming. He says, he was involved with his girl like they were out on the first date. He tells him not to go after her to chase her away. Carrie Ann says, he has charisma out the ying yang. She tells him to strap it on out. Len says, he's a little bit like this truck, he needs a little polish. He says, he has great potential. He says, he came out after it, and has great potential, and tells him it's a job well done. Erin asks about Chris' mental hurdle since he made out with everyone on The Bachelor. He says, he's now engaged, and this is the best he's felt. Judges scores: Carrie Ann - 7, Len - 6, Julianne - 6, and Bruno - 7 for a total of 26. Erin reminds everyone to vote every way possible.

 

Highlights and practice sessions are shown for Michael Sams and Peta Murgatroyd. They dance the Cha Cha to Uptown Funk (Billybeats Remix) by Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars. The audience goes crazy and gives them a standing ovation. Bruno says, Michael that was hot. He says, it was sparky and funky. He compliments Peta on her instruction. Julianne says, his feet were a little sloppy, and needed to be pointed a little more. She says, he has a grove in him that's infectious, and they did a good job. Len says, the only difference between them is that he could win rear of the year, and he would win ass of the past. He tells him, the only thing wrong was that he needs to work a little more on his footwork. Carrie Ann says, he's a beautiful gorgeous man, and that he has to be careful not to stick his booty out, and don't paste a smile on his face. She tells him to be authentic. We return to the ballroom with Footloose playing. Erin jokes with Chris and Witney because they are dancing in front of Michael and Peta. Erin asks Michael what the difference is between the intensity on the football field and the ballroom? He says, it's about the same, and has to apply himself. Judges scores: Carrie Ann - 6, Len - 6, Julianne - 7, and Bruno - 7 for a total of 26. Erin says, one couple will leave next week, so everyone needs to vote.

 

Highlights and practice sessions are shown for Nastia Liukin and Derek Hough. They dance the Foxtrot to New York, New York (Fwb Remix) by Ray Quinn featuring Ultra Love. The audience gives them a standing ovation. Carrie Ann says, it was fantastic, polished and clean, but there was a lift. She says, Derek, you should have known better. He says, he thought the dress would hide it. Len says, it was like the big apple, sweet and delicious. Julianne says, it was an explosive first dance. She says, she will have to work on her upper back. Bruno says, there is nothing nasty about Nastia. He tells her to be careful not to overwork it, and it was a spectacular debut. Tom says, their scores, and a former guest judge becomes a dancer, when we return, live.

 

We return to DWTS with the judges dancing in a line like the rockets, behind their table, to New York, New York (Fwb Remix) by Ray Quinn featuring Ultra Love. Erin tells Erin that Derek gave her the wrong hand before the lift. Derek jokes about him telling her that in confidence. Nastia says, it was great to be out there. Judges scores: Carrie Ann - 7, Len - 7, Julianne - 8, and Bruno - 8 for a total of 30. Erin says, a 7 is not bad for a lift, she thought it would be worse.

 

We see highlights for Redfoo and Emma Slater. They dance the Cha Cha to Juicy Wiggle by Redfoo. The audience gives them a standing ovation, and is dancing in their places. Len says, he dances like his hair, a little wild and unkept. He says, he needs a little more hip action, but it was fun, fun, fun. Julianne says, she wanted to see more jiggle, but it was fun, and she can't wait to see what else he does this season. Bruno says, it was wonderful wackiness, and he wants more of it. He says, there is 10 weeks to go, and come back and sort of his technique. Carrie Ann says, there is more to the dance than the hook. She tells him to come back next week, and have the whole dance figured out. Tom says, everyone can see rehearsals each week on ABC.COM. Erin says, Patti LaBelle has Redfoo glasses on, she can hardly contain herself. Redfoo says, he is so excited to learn more technique, and starts giving some hip action. Judges scores: Carrie Ann - 6, Len - 5, Julianne - 5, and Bruno - 6 for a total of 22. Erin tells everyone to vote, so they don't go home, and stay past next Monday night. Tom says, the audience wasn't LMFAO about those scores. He says, there is more to come, live, after the break.

 

We come back to the ballroom with the professional dancers on the ballroom floor. Highlights and practice sessions are shown for Noah Galloway and Sharma Burgess. They dance the Cha Cha to I Lived by OneRepublic. The audience is cheering for them as they dance. Once they are finished, they erupt in a long standing ovation and applause for them. Tom says, I think our audience echos what the audience at home feels right now. Julianne says, this is the first time tonight she's seen the kind of connection you need in this competition. She says, she knows the type of challenges he faces, and leading with his right arm is great. Bruno says, he's a titan among men. He says, the connection is great, and his presence is unique. He tells him he has a trump card, and to keep working with it. Carrie Ann says, thank you for challenging yourself. She thanks him for challenging her as a judge. She starts to to cry. She tells him, he's broadening her scope of what dancing is like. She says, it was truly inspiring by his passion and ability. Len says, it was truly great, and that everyone is inspired. He tells Noah, he salutes him on a job well done. Tom says, whatever their scores are, it's moments like this when our show is at it's best. Erin says, everyone in the ballroom is crying, and it's been a great reaction by his 3 kids in the audience fist pumping. He says, he feels really good right now. Judges scores: Carrie Ann - 7, Len - 6, Julianne - 6, and Bruno - 7 for a total of 28. Erin reminds everyone to vote as much as they can. We return to DWTS with the judges singing and making hand movements to the music. Tom says, Tony looks like an athletic smurf. We see highlights and practice sessions for Suzanne Somers and Tony Dovolani. They dance the Cha Cha to Physical by Olivia Newton-John.

 

The audience claps along with their dancing, and gives them great applause, and a standing ovation. Bruno says, Tony has lost it completely. He says, he wouldn't even dare to dress like that. He says, they don't even make things like that anymore. He tells her to watch her foot, and it was very well executed. Carrie Ann says, she is a ray of sunshine in this crazy world. She tells her she is redonkulous. Len says, he loved it. Julianne says, she loved it, and wants to see things get more raunchy. Erin says, everyone wants to be like her, they are tight on time. Judges scores: Carrie Ann - 6, Len - 6, Julianne - 6, and Bruno - 7 for a total of 25. Erin asks her what she thought of those scores, and Suzanne says, they are fair, because she did mess up. Tom welcomes us back to the ballroom for the final dance of the Season Premier. We see highlights for Rumer Willis and Valentin Chmerkovskiy. They dance the Foxtrot to Take Me To Church by Hozier. The audience cheers for them while they are dancing. The audience gives them a standing ovation, and loud cheers and applause. The cameras show both of her parents in the audience. Carrie Ann says, Season 20 just got real. She says, she is a fierce competitor, and is in it to win it. Len says, it was intense and quiet and calm. He tells Val, this is his season. Julianne says, what a vision, and she has chills. She says, the passion they had, they are definitely the ones to watch. She says, it was intense. Bruno says, Rumer has it big time. He says, she has focus, it's powerful and involving. He says, she has the best arms ever.

 

Tom asks Rumer how it was watching all the other dancers first, and she says, it was great. She says, she was completely awful in dress rehearsal. Judges scores: Carrie Ann - 8, Len - 8, Julianne - 8, and Bruno - 8 for a total of 32. Len said it was the dance of the night. Tom says, all of the dancers want your vote tonight, and sadly, one couple will go home next week. Rumer and Val are at the top of the leader board, and Charlotte and Keo and Emma and Redfoo are at the bottom. He says, no matter where the stars stand, they want your vote. Erin says, next week will be My Jam Monday. Tom says, Castle is next, and then Jimmy Kimmel later. He says, that's the fastest he's talked in months, and tells everyone goodnight. Erin says, it's amazing!
