Meshach Taylor, who is fondly remembered for his Emmy-nominated role as ex-con Anthony Bouvier on CBS sitcom “Designing Women” died of cancer Saturday night at his family's home in Altadena, California. He was 67.

Born on April 11, 1947 in Boston, Massachusetts, Meshach Taylor’s first professional appearance was in the national tour of musical “Hair.” After honing his craft in repertory theater as a member of Chicago’s Goodman Theatre, Taylor moved to Los Angeles in 1978 and made guest appearances in TV series like “Barnaby Jones,” “The Incredible Hulk,” “The White Shadow,” “Lou Grant” and “Barney Miller.” His first regularly scheduled series role was on NBC sitcom “Buffalo Bill” from 1983-84, which led to multiple additional guest appearances (including “The Golden Girls,” “Hill Street Blues” and “In the Heat of the Night”). Taylor’s seven-season stint on “Designing Women” began in the fall of 1986, which was followed by a four-season run on CBS sitcom “Dave’s World” from 1993-97. For 11 consecutive seasons – 1986-97 – Meshach Taylor was a familiar, and welcome face on CBS.

Taylor also hosted own series on HGTV, “The Urban Gardener with Meshach Taylor,” and "Meshach Taylor's Hidden Caribbean" on the Travel Channel; he was a regular panelist on the 2000 revival of game show “To Tell the Truth;” and had a recurring role on Nickelodeon sitcom “Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide” from 2004-07. He appeared in a number of theatrical movies including “The Howling,” “Mannequin,” “Explorers” and “One More Saturday Night.” And, most recently, Taylor guest starred on an episode of “Criminal Minds” on CBS.

Taylor is survived by his wife Bianca Ferguson; daughters Tamar, Esme and Yasmine; son Tariq; and four grandchildren. Rest in Peace, Mr. Taylor.
