"Celebrity Poker Showdown"

Filmed recently before a live audience at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, each episode of "Celebrity Poker Showdown" will feature five celebrities competing against each other for a piece of the $250,000 prize pool in a game of No Limit Texas Hold'em poker for the charity of their choice. Each week a new crop of stars will take to the table to challenge their peers.

The winner from each week's game will go on to compete in the championship final sixth episode. Viewers will have the inside track on the hands the different players are holding via hidden cameras. They will also be able to hear from the eliminated players, who will watch the remainder of their respective matches from the "Loser's Lounge," via closed circuit television.

All players are guaranteed at least $5,000 in prize money for their chosen charity. Just for making it to the finals, fifth place will win $7,500, fourth place will win $10,000, third place will win $12,500 and second place will walk away with $20,000 for their charity. The "Celebrity Poker Showdown" champions will each walk away with $100,000 for the charity of their choice.

Celebrity Poker Showdown

"It's ladies' night/And the feeling's right/Oh, yes, it's ladies' night/Oh, what a night...." With this song stuck in my head, play gets under way with an all-female cast of quasi-celebs who are ready for some cable-approved humor and good, old-fashioned gamblin'. And Dave Foley's goofy humor really seems to go over well with the gals, even when he references his own menstrual cycle. Tonight it was Ricki Lake, Sharon Lawrence, Kathryn Morris, Kathy Najimi and Caroline Rhea in a battle to see who could play her cards right. Now usually there are some overshares in the personal-information arena on this show, mostly in attempts at humor or to distract opponents. But tonight's odd comment comes from poker-pro Phil Gordon, who admitted

FROM TV GUIDE: The Water Cooler

Celebrity Poker Showdown

Answer: This humble game-show host can bluff at poker with the best of them. Question: Who is Alex Trebek? Too bad that he ultimately lost on, well, not Jeopardy!, but Celebrity Poker. Hey, at least he fared better than Sean Connery in an SNL parody of Celebrity Jeopardy!. Tonight was quite an exciting night: Dave had to call for security when Michael Vartan tried to return to the table after getting his butt kicked by Anthony Anderson's quad five slow play; those same fives reared their ugly heads when Alex landed a set to take a bunch of Anthony's cash; and awesome poker-player Annie Duke (whom I want to be just like when I grow up) dropped by for a short visit. So cool, as she's like, the coolest chick in this often male-dominated game. I think that even though she picked newcomer Amber Tamblyn to win, she'd probably be pretty proud that Curb Your Enthusiasm's Cheryl Hines beat out everyone and had fun while doing it. It was great to watch a disgruntled Vartan drown his sorrows in the loser's lounge and make sarcastic comments about the other players. Dave tried to console him with the fact that they couldn't take away his chiseled good looks, which Michael seemed to care little about, but honestly, for once, Dave made a good point: Winning at poker is all about a bit of skill and the luck of the draw, but money can't buy the handsome mug that Mr. V's got.

Celebrity Poker Showdown

While last week's pretty eye-candy Michael Vartan crashed and burned quickly at the poker table, this week's dreamily dimpled Eddie Cibrian managed to stick it out and win. Even more impressive is that Phil Gordon finally broke his curse which caused him to pick good players to win and then watch them lose terribly. Eddie

Celebrity Poker Showdown

Eddie Cibrian was the first victim on Kathy Najimy's quest for the gold chip and 100,000 grand prize for her charity. I was feeling a little bad because he was arguably the best player in this championship round, but then I remembered that his new little alien show debuted last night to some pretty decent ratings. No more pity from me. But even though Kathy was distracted by the all dimples and hair "crazy handsome" combo of Andrew Firestone and Mr. Cibrian, she didn't let those pretty boys distract her too much. I thought it was pretty funny that Phil and Dave decided to choose their picks for winners out of a hat because they didn't want to purposely jinx anybody. That system didn't really work either as Phil's pick Andrew and Dave's pick Cheryl Hines ended up in the Loser's lounge keeping the co-hosts company. For a while it really looked like Stephen Collins had been touched by an angel (no, not me I was busy rooting for Kathy), but Kathy made a string of really aggressive plays. There wasn't too much joking

in my opinion...i think that the 'celebrities' (if you would call them that) on the new CPS are not very good and i think that the only good table is the desperate housewives guys...i was wondering who you guys would like to see play CPS and who you would like to see them play against so basically...make your own table(s)

heres mine:

TABLE 1

1.) Lisa Kudrow - i LOVE this woman

2.) Megan Mullaly - i LOVE this woman too

3.) Jerry Sienfeld - he would make it even more funny

4.) Matt LeBlanc - flippin hilarous

5.) Ellen - i LOVE this woman too...she is possibly the funniest lady of TV

CeCiMom - I think you're onto a pretty good list but I'd make a few changes. I'd like to see celebrities that really know how to play poker get a table so I would replace Meg Tilly with Jennifer Tilly. Her boyfriend is poker champion and she's won two professional tournaments of her own.

gill - I think tables with casts from TV shows would be a stellar idea. They almost did an "Everybody Loves Raymond" table when Ray Romano and Brad Garrett sat in on one of the games. They were a total riot. I remember Romano making one quip to Garrett after a particularly hilarious exchange. Romano said, "If I knew you were THIS funny, I would have given you a bigger part."

So I would second that motion of having those characters join the fun. I would love to include the creator and executive producer, Phil Rosenthal to the table too. He is one incredibly funny person who sports a quick wit. He's also married to Monica Horan, the actress who portrays Amy MacDougall Barone.

I forgot to put Travis Tritt and Wanda Sykes at the same table. The game they played was one of the funniest shows I've seen in ages. There was such a comedic chemistry between the two of them that they teased about taking it on the road. If I had to go for the comedy route, I'd add Lauren Graham and Sara Rue to their table. Both women were not only quick-witted but competitive and pretty good poker players. That would bring the game up to four players so I guess I'd add some eye candy for the ladies at the table and some testosterone for poor Travis Tritt. Insert your favorite boy toy here. My vote would go to Keith Urban.

Celebrity Poker Showdown To Film In New Orleans

In support of the victims of hurricane Katrina and the City of New Orleans, Bravo's hit series, "Celebrity Poker Showdown," is set to film the next season in the ravaged Louisiana city. Joining the production will be poker champion and winner of nine World Series of Poker bracelets, Phil Hellmuth, who will serve as the series' new poker commentator and co-host, along with comedian Dave Foley. The all-new eighth tournament, featuring a million dollar prize pool will premiere this spring.

"For the new season of 'Celebrity Poker Showdown' we have decided to take the series in a new direction and we could think of no better way than to support the people of New Orleans," said Frances Berwick, Senior Vice President of Programming and Production for Bravo. "In Phil Hellmuth we have found an engaging, proven and renowned poker champion who we are confident will complement Dave Foley's comedic commentary and provide the insight our viewers rely on."

"New Orleans is a city with a heart and soul like no other American City and being that it is the birthplace of poker, there was no better place to take our show," said executive producer Marcia Mul. "And in the process, to be able to give away a million dollars to help bring back the big easy, that's a winning hand."

New co-host and poker commentator Phil Hellmuth is a true poker champion. With nine World Series of Poker victories and more than fifty tournament titles under his belt, Hellmuth's poker legacy is secure. His laundry list of achievements began in 1989 at the tender age of 24 with his first World Series of Poker Main Event title, the youngest person to ever accomplish the feat, a record that stills stands to this day. He has since amassed dozens of major tournament wins internationally, including wins at The World's Biggest Seven-card Stud Tournament in Austria and Late Night Poker in Great Britain.

Bravo will be partnering with Harrah's Entertainment to make Harrah's the new official casino of "Celebrity Poker Showdown." For the all-new season, "Celebrity Poker Showdown" will be filmed at Harrah's New Orleans. The land-based casino closed shortly before Hurricane Katrina made landfall near the city on August 29. The building sustained storm damage, and was used by first responders as a base of operations in the days following the storm. Repairs to the facility have been completed and the casino re-opened on February 17.

Filmed in front of a live audience, each episode of "Celebrity Poker Showdown" features five celebrities competing against each other for the chance to win thousands to donate to the charity of their choice. Each week, a new group of celebrities meet at the table to go head to head until only one remains. The winner from each week's game will advance to the championship sixth game. To date, "Celebrity Poker Showdown" has given away $2,450,000 to charities around the world. All celebrities will be playing for charities benefiting victims of Hurricane Katrina.

"Celebrity Poker Showdown" is produced by Picture This Television in association with Bravo. Marcia Mul, Bryan Scott and Lisa M. Tucker are the executive producers.
