The two Hollywood veterans will share hosting duties at the 82nd Annual Academy Awards, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said Tuesday, November 3.

Telecast producers Bill Mechanic and Adam Shankman said Martin and Baldwin are <i>"the perfect pair of hosts for the Oscars."</i> The producers have said they hope to resurrect Oscar's ratings and make the show more fun by building on the changes introduced at February's ceremony, which tinkered with the way awards were presented and featured Broadway-style musical interludes.

Bringing in a pair of hosts, while not unprecedented, continues that theme of change. <i>"Very early on, we talked about a pairing as part of our concept of the show, having tradition and also freshness walking hand in hand,"</i> Shankman said in an interview. <i>"Steve anchors it in so much tradition and Alec . . . besides being a former Oscar nominee, he is just hot, hot, hot right now. And the two of them I know adore each other."</i><!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc-->

The last time multiple hosts graced the Oscar stage was in 1987, when Chevy Chase, Goldie Hawn and Paul Hogan shared hosting duties.

<i>"In the modern television era, this is the first time there will be two co-hosts on the same stage,"</i> academy spokeswoman Leslie Unger said. Hugh Jackman sang and danced as host of last year's Academy Awards, which saw a ratings boost from the previous year. The 41-year-old actor declined to reprise his hosting role before Mechanic and Shankman were named as producers.

Baldwin is a first-timer as Oscar host, but was a co-presenter in 2004. Baldwin, 51, who stars on NBC's <i>"30 Rock,"</i> called the Oscar gig <i>"the opportunity of a lifetime."</i> He was nominated for an Academy Award in 2003 for his supporting role in <i>"The Cooler."</i>

Martin said that he is <i>"happy to co-host the Oscars with my enemy Alec Baldwin."</i> The 64-year-old entertainer is currently on tour in support of his latest banjo album. He and Baldwin share the screen in Nancy Meyers' film, <i>"It's Complicated,"</i> due in theaters next month. Besides the dual-host approach, the 2010 Oscars have already undergone a major makeover. The academy moved its honorary Oscars, often a long-winded affair that bogged down the ceremony, to a separate event in November.

And in the biggest change in decades, the academy doubled the number of best-picture nominees from five to 10. Academy overseers hope that might open the top category to a wider range of films, including commercial movies that could attract more TV viewers. Telecast plans are shaping up well, said Mechanic, who made three promises about the 82nd Academy Awards ceremony on March 7, 2010: <i>"It will be more fun this year, it will be faster this year and it will be the best of the best."</i><!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc--></b>

I don't like 10 pictures nominated. And "Up" shouldn't even be in the Best Picture category. It has it's own category, "Best Animated Feature". By also putting it in the Best Picture category, it has guaranteed it's win in the Best Animated Feature category. Everyone should bet big on this and the bookies should be pissed.

The only other sure winner I think is "The Weary Kind", nominated for Best Original Song from Crazy Heart.

I think Jersey was just turning a phrase but yes, they do bet on The Academy Awards. Betting ranges from local living rooms or office 'football' type pools to Las Vegas full-on odds. Although Las Vegas sets odds on the Oscars, you can't place money bets in the popular desert gambling destination. However, you can take those odds and use them on numerous online betting sites.

'SYTYCD's' Legacy to Dance at Oscars

"So You Think You Can Dance's" Legacy will be at the Academy Awards, but not for his emotionally wrought crying scenes. The busy b-boy will take part in a dance routine at the Oscars on Sunday, March 7 in Hollywood, reuniting with 'SYTYCD' judge Adam Shankman, who's also producing the Oscars alongside Bill Mechanic.

"I will be part of the Academy Awards," Legacy confirmed to Zap2it today. "LXD [The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers crew] got asked to perform in it. Either I'll be performing with LXD or I'm doing some stuff with Adam." Unfortunately, Jonathan 'Legacy' Perez didn't have any details about the routine yet, but he filled us in on the audition process, where he didn't have to dance one step.

"I was asked to sit by the main choreographers and Adam Shankman," said Legacy. "A lot of people who watched the show, a lot of dancers were inspired by what we did. So they wanted [me] just to be there because you know, when you have somebody watching you that you've watched on TV, you tend to show off a little more. So the audition process was really intense because people are like, 'Oh they're there? Whoa! We got to show off. We've got to do really good for them.'"

Besides dancing at the Academy Awards, Legacy will have a keen interest in how the night plays out for his favorite movie of last year, Academy Award contender for Best Picture of the Year, "Avatar." Enthusiastically, Legacy revealed in a recent interview, "I absolutely loved 'Avatar' big time." He gushed openly, "I've seen it twice."

Legacy continued to fervently explain, "It's the message, it's the intricacies, the beauty of it, the concept, how it's shot, what it means, the obstacles in it and how they all turn into opportunities. The more chaos, the more you can reveal light. There are just so many things [from the movie] that I try to apply in my life. It brought everything out for me visually."

And would he like to have his own 'Legacy' avatar? "Yeah, that would be fresh. That would be really fresh," the young dancer replied with excitement. "I would do everything. I'd flip off walls, break through topiary."

Until the avatar technology is made available, however, Legacy will just have to be satisfied with how humans are currently able to move, which is pretty well considering the Olympics are upon us. "I think snowboarding is something I'd watch at the Olympics probably this year," said Legacy, whose busy schedule keeps him from regular TV viewing.

The dancer whose sick moves and crazy athleticism wowed viewers on 'SYTYCD' carried his physical dexterity onto the slopes his first time snowboarding. He explained, "When I dance, when I do my power moves -- like spinning on my head, my back or my shoulders -- I'm ambidextrous in that sense. So in snowboarding I go down regular and goofy foot. I could do both sides. People were like, 'That's not really fair.'"

Legacy's also proud that he didn't fall off the ski lift his first time, but he wasn't able to stay completely upright the whole time. "I did fall," he admitted. "Once I got really cocky and I bashed my face and my glasses flew off all over the place."
