It's really hard to celebrate my 55th birthday with all the bad news today. I'm happy to be breathing today!

I'll post an obit when it becomes official. Sad, sad day.

Michael Jackson Dead

Updated at 3:15 p.m.

Pop star Michael Jackson was pronounced dead by doctors this afternoon after arriving at a hospital in a deep coma, city and law enforcement sources told The LA Times.

Updated at 2:46 p.m.

Jackson is in a coma and family have are arriving at his bedside, a law enforcement source told The LA Times. Jackson was rushed to a hospital this afternoon by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics.

Capt. Steve Ruda said paramedics responded to a call at Jackson's home around 12:26 p.m. He was not breathing when they arrived. The parademics performed CPR and took him to UCLA Medical Center, Ruda told The LA Times.

Updated at 2:12 p.m.

Paramedics were called to a home on the 100 block of Carolwood Drive off Sunset Boulevard. Jackson rented the Bel Air home for $100,000 a month. It was described as a French chateau estate built in 2002 with seven bedrooms, 13 bathrooms, 12 fireplaces and a theater.

The home is about 2-1/2 miles, about a six-minute drive, from UCLA Medical Center. An earlier version of this post incorrectly described the time to travel between the home and hospital as two minutes.

The news comes as Jackson, 50, was attempting a comeback after years of tabloid headlines, most notably his trial and acquittal on child molestation charges.

In May, The LA Times reported that Jackson had rented the Bel Air residence and was rehearsing for a series of 50 sold-out shows in London's O2 Arena. Jackson had won the backing of two billionaires to get the so-called "King of Pop" back on stage.

His backers envision the shows at AEG's O2 as an audition for a career rebirth that could ultimately encompass a three-year world tour, a new album, movies, a Graceland-like museum, musical revues in Las Vegas and Macau, and even a "Thriller" casino. Such a rebound could wipe out Jackson's massive debt.

Such a shock. Heard it just as our plane landed and we were getting off. Amazing artist, went a little weird in later years, but still have to appreciate all that he did over the years. Was lucky enough to be at one of his concerts back in the early/mid 80's at Arrowhead stadium. It was just amazing.

Gosh what a tough day yesterday. 1st Farrah and then Michael. Both influenced my life and I'm deeply saddened.

(Short story)

Michael recently became a part of my little girls life, through music.

About a month and a half ago her dance company did a jazz routine to the song, Smooth Criminal. While watching some youtube videos to help my daughter decide on a song for a solo dance she asked about the singer of Smooth Criminal. (Naively, it never occurred to me that she didn't know all about Michael Jackson.) So I started with the video Thriller and then Billie Jean and then Man in the Mirror, etc. etc...

She's been infatuated with him every since... listening to him night and day. I'm glad she got to know his music and enjoy him the way I do. The hard part has been trying to explain why/how he died and why she can't attend the funeral. :( But we'll get through it.

R. I. P Michael Jackson. You were loved.

I still can't believe it and am waiting for the news that it was all a mistake, sadly I know it won't come.

He is one of my all time favourite artisits. I think the guy was a total genius who probably felt the pressure to share his talents with the world because of how incredible they were, when really all he ever longed for was to be normal. My prayer for him is that he's resting peacefully now... that he's not being hounded, judged, or pressured. I hope that all that weight has been lifted and he can finally just rest. I also pray for his family, especially his children who he made a point to shelter and hide from the press. I hope that the media will respect their right to privacy at this time and not seek them out.

Michael will forever be the King Of Pop. No one will ever come close to making the kind of impact he has on the music industry.

Awhl Beeeee Therrrrrrrre.

Awhllllll Bee therrrrrrrrrre

Jawst Caawllll Myyy Naaaayyyyyyymmmmm

And I'll Beee Therrre.

That tune and those words have gotten me through a lot of different times throughout my life.

"Califcylone - Grabs Crotch, thrusts forward while making a primal "Owwwwwww" sound, then moonwalks to grab another tissue".

Smooth Criminal has been the ringtone on my cell for years. I love that song.

I can't say that I'll miss him, but he did give us some memorable tunes.

Sadly his comeback tour was called "The Goodbye Tour". How ironic and haunting is that? All 50 shows sold out in hours... it was the fastest selling concert of that magnitude ever.

And it was all in the UK and Europe. Did anyone see the false rumors that Jeff Goldblum had been killed? Thankfully that turned out to be a hoax.
