NBC is airing a new reality TV cooking series, The Chopping Block, that will have couples competing against each other for the opportunity to win a grand prize of $250,000 to open their own restaurant. The contestants will be split into two teams of four couples each and given to two empty restaurant spaces, side-by-side, in the middle of the world

it's actually a flagrant ripoff of Last Restaurant Standing, which is a reality show we stumbled across on the BBC-America channel we have on Dish Network.

We have seen about 4 episodes of Last Restaurant Standing, and it's been very enjoyable to watch. It started with 9 couples competing for 8 spots on the show. One week they are shown trying to run their restaurant. The next week, 3 teams are selected as the worst and compete in a challenge, with the losing team having their restaurant closed.

From the BBC website... Last Restaurant Standing

Hopefully The Chopping Block will be as enjoyable as Last Restaurant Standing has been for us.

NBC CHOPS "BLOCK" AFTER THREE WEEKS

By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

[03.26.09 - 09:45 PM]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- NBC has put "The Chopping Block" on... the chopping block.

Scheduling updates released this evening indicate repeats of "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" will assume the show's Wednesday, 8:00/7:00c slot effective immediately.

"Block" was the least-watched program on the night for the second week in a row (save for a repeat of The CW's "90210"), posting a series low 0.9 rating among adults 18-49 on Wednesday.

It's not clear when - or if - the five remaining installments in the competition will be aired.
