Episode 5.13: Some Like It Hoth

Airdate: April 8, 2009

  • 02/18 - Jack was in the typical khaki jumpsuit, Daniel was wearing a grey one, and Kate was in a dark blue Dharma outfit (with the "wrench" logo). And there were other names. First and foremost, "Radzinsky" (Eric Lange) was in the scene, and Roxy says the character was also wearing black. along with "Thug 1" and "Thug 2" (as identified by their trailers) and a number of other "rifle-toting men." There were also a couple of redshirts in Dharma khakis ("Casey" and "Elmer"). As for the action? Jack, Kate, and Faraday are in a gun battle with Dharma agents wearing black. They run, jump into the blue Jeep, ducking bullets and crashing into a Dharma van. Just as they get away, a large fuel tank explodes. Source: The Transmission
  • 02/12 - Leading up to 5.13, Faraday has gone "missing" after exploring the Orchid amongst other things. In 5.13, he reappears and is seen by Miles. It's a pretty big reveal, as Daniel's whereabouts and activities have been missing for a while. We [know of] some experimental stuff being taken from the Sub. We see Radzinky and some Dharma scientists in black uniforms along with Pierre Chang. Daniel has been busy with something and is the setup for something big to happen. Source: Lost Spoilers
  • 02/08 - Today they were filming off of Lehua St near Chuck E Cheese in Pearl City. It was a shot of Miles being kidnapped by two men and thrown into a van. Source: Lost Spoilers

LOST Redux: Who's Your Daddy?

EOnline, 4/15/09 by Jennifer Godwin

Tonight's all-new episode of Lost, "Some Like It Hoth," was full of the funny, being so Miles (and Hurley) centric, but there were also answers in this episode, which balanced out at about 50 percent character study and exposition, 45 percent humor and five percent mytharc progression.

If you haven't caught up yet, put the security tape from camera four into your Betamax and catch up!

But if you've seen The Empire Strikes Back, know how to spell bounty hunter, and want to discuss what went down on Lost, well, get in here...

WHAT WE LEARNED (WAS A LOT)

The Lost Dossier on Miles Straume, aka Miles Chang:

  • Miles is named after Miles Davis. Straume may be an assumed name, possibly chosen by Miles himself as a repudiation of his father's name.
  • Miles' father is Pierre Chang. (Chang's aliases include Dr. Marvin Candle, Dr. Mark Wickmund, Dr. Edgar Halliwax and "that douche.")
  • Miles had his ability to read the minds of the dead as early as age 10.
  • Miles' power works best when he's near the body.
  • Miles found out his parents were Dharmites in Island 1974 when, "Third day we were here I was on line at the cafeteria and my mother got on line behind me." (Ha.)
  • Miles' mom died of something that made all her hair fall out, likely cancer.
  • According to Pierre Chang, polar bear experiments are ridiculous. Also, polar bears poo too much. And yet he still read his kiddo a book about polar bears. It's like a paradox, but not.
  • Miles likes fish tacos.

Breakfast of Champions: Last season, Miles wanted Ben to pay him in exchange for not revealing Ben's location to the Freighter crew, specifically Keamy. (Remember how Miles convinced to Kate to smuggle him to see Ben in the Dharma tunnels? And how Locke put a grenade in Miles' mouth as punishment?) We now know the seemingly random figure in question ($3.2 million) was double the $1.6 million that Charles Widmore was paying Miles to help find Ben.

Riddle Me This: Apparently, it is recommended to know what lies in the shadow of the statue. We heard the question tonight from Bram, after hearing it last week from Ilana. Conclusion: Ajira 316ers Bram and Ilana are totally working together. But who do they work for: Benry, Mrs. Hawking, or perhaps a third, as-yet-unknown party? Got a theory?

Easter Eggs:

  • 4 8 15 16 23 42 was the serial number of the hatch.
  • Widmore paid for the Oceanic 815 coverup. (Duh.)
  • Dharma schoolchildren study Egyptology and hieroglyphics, based on what was visible on the blackboard in the classroom janitor Jack was cleaning.

Daniel's Back: Some scientists from Ann Arbor are coming to the Island on the submarine. One of the scientists is Daniel Faraday, who back in 1974 apparently got on that submarine that was leaving the next day, and left the Island via submersible boat. Either that or he got his hands on the Frozen Donkey Wheel and landed his butt in Tunisia. But the real questions are where has he been and what has he be doing all this time? Last but not least, those scientists from Ann Arbor
