As far as the poor dental hygeine is concerned it seems like they wanted to pigeon hole Mountain Dew and sweet snacks as the main reason for tooth decay amongst these people but they neglected one major factor. You really need to consider the "city water" that most of us are accustom to drinking contains flouride and other chemicals to help promote healthy teeth while the vast majority of the Appilachian region depend on well water to survive. Well water contains many different minerals and bacteria that destroy the enamel on teeth and make even those that brush 3 times per day more suseptable to tooth decay. Granted the sweet tooth doesn't help and I'm denying it exists or that it was overstated in this special, I'm simply saying there are other factors at play as well.

Good point.Thanks for sharing!

Well, on this we really do agree... I have all my teeth except my wisdom teeth, but 12 years ago I moved from having city water all my life to having well water and in that 10 years I've had more dental problems than I have my entire life... I can't say it's all due to the water, but I do believe most of it is the water... I do have TMJ and that compounds any kind of cavity you might have, and then I'm on a cocktail of meds that when combined will cause tooth decay... I'm 40 years old now and I haven't changed my dental hygiene habits, but my dental health has changed...

I'm really glad this thread has returned though :)...

Try getting a flouride rinse. Crest and some others are readily available at Wally world.

Thanks Sugar... My dentist put me on fluoride treatments a few years back... It's helped, like I said now the big thing is more the meds... There is nothing to prevent them causing problems... Then the TMJ just compounds it more and more...

I hope things go good for Sandy on this weeks show... :fingers crossed:

If the meds are affecting your teeth, keep an eye on your bone density too - it could be eroding away bone mass.

Go SANDY!! :party_smilie: Keep being good at the challenges, and you'll be okay for now!

Thanks again for the information... I'll mention that to my doctor... They do tests every 6 months, but I don't think that's one of them...

GO Sandy!!!

I think a lot of well water is better than processed city water, but it also depends on what seeps into the water. Eastern KY's water table is so close to the surface (less than 20' in most areas) that it is effected by a lot of run-off from the coal mines that includes sulfur and other dangerous chemicals. Just look at the cancer rate for that area...

As far as Sandy's teeth, yes they look great! But, she is from Louisville in Central KY which for the past two years was voted "Best of the Best" tap water among large cities: http://www.louisvilleky.gov/LWC

I think Sandy will be safe this week.

Carolina needs to stop sucking on the helium that she's been filling her ta-tas with.... and this is coming from me. I have an annoying voice so I know what it's like, but wow, her's is over the top! Even I don't have empathy!

So think she sticks around next week?

I think it's really going to come down to the IC. If her tribe loses, she might be in trouble!

But what do I know . . . I bought the farm big time last week in fantasy leagues :animated_rotfl:

I don't think Sandy is going anywhere for a little while, and no this isn't any kind of spoiler information, it's just a gut feeling...

Just based on what Jeff said in his blog, I think she'll be around for a while. I hope so anyway -- GO SANDY!!! :party_smilie::party_smilie:

Her rodeo/lasso move in the challenge tonight was GREAT! Now that her team has some fishing gear I think Sandy's worth will really start to show. If she is successful catching fish I think she will hang around for quite a while.

Yes she was. I loved it that the girls on the other team took note as well. I am still laughing that they called her a little old lady. Now come on, girls, she's older than you yes, but little old lady? She's not 85 for pete's sake!!

She showed her strength tonight, but still think her tribe may snuff her anyways...sometimes over enthusiasm can get irritating. I know I caught that the guys don't like her touchy feely when she was talking to them....

Still hope she goes farther, she is entertaining!

I did feel bad for her when their team scored a basket... and the boys were high fiving and she tried to be part of it and they pretty much ignored her..... not cool
