Big Brother Ratings For The Season

Although many don't care, there a few that seem as interested in the ratings each season as I am, so I will try to keep you updated on the week to week ratings.

Previous years I have pulled my data from a blog site (TVSquad.com) that posts the Nielsons, but also includes very opinionated commentary about each episode and gossip and reviews of everything on tv. This year I have found a new site that posts the Nielson numbers alone and has very little commentary (TVByTheNumbers.com). Both great sites depending on what you want.

With that said, BB10 started off with normal BB ratings and then dropped a bit but seems to be gaining steam and all 3 episodes not only posted very nicely in the top 20, but Wed nights eviction posted a 10% improvement over last weeks episode. Sun night showed a slight drop, but still won it's timeslot. Wednesday it was 2nd in it's timeslot (behind So You Think You Can Dance) but there was a huge gap between BB and #3 (Wife Swap)

So, the final tally puts BB10 in the 12 (tues), 13 (wed) and 14 Sun) spots. In past seasons at this point, we are lucky to see one(maybe 2) nights in the 19th and 20th spots. Still not any HUGE improvement over past season, but definately a sign that BB is still a great money bet for CBS which bodes well for future seasons.

Here are the numbers:

Hey, it's a miracle they are doing this well!!! All the competition from cable/satelitte upper band stuff. You should check out the ratings Soaps are getting now!!! In 1999 Another World was cancelled because it's ratings were around 2.2...now 70 percent of soaps are well below this number!

Posted

I have been reading where ratings are way down for BB. Lets hope they can at least stay above a 4. The ratings you show are for only CBS shows.

Posted

When are the other shows scheduled to run new episodes? While I like the fact that BB is doing better, I noticed most of the ranked scripted shows are reruns. Personally, I'm not a fan of Without a Trace or Shost Whisperer, but I think once they start with the new stories, BB may get knocked back to the 19th & 20th slots.

Unless of course the Big Brother HGs pull a swingtown situation with Renny/ Dan/ Ollie/ April...then the ratings may drop even further :) JK...I think.

Posted

I hope the ratings get even better! No matter how much I complain about certain HG's I really enjoy BB. This season is no exception!

Posted

I don't really follow ratings. I just want BB to do good enough to keep the seasons coming!

Posted

I'm wondering though if BB has run it's course? I think they tried to bring the show back to that "social experiment" platform by bringing in seemingly controversial people (Dan the strong Catholic with traditional views on women VS Steven the gay guy and Libra out spoken and politically involved woman, etc) in hopes they'd fight/debate... instead being in the house has little to do with WHO they are and getting to know eachother, and more to do with winning the game. I think that's the element that has been missing for me these last few years. It's not about being in a house with strangers anymore...it's about the game. Because no one is really playing the game differently, it's almost like it's growing old? Seriously, I doubt someone will make a move that we haven't already seen.

Don't get me wrong...while I sound a little blah about the show, I'll still continue to watch since it's my summer addiction. But ya..

I am by far not an industry expert but ratings while important are only a part Big Brothers allure to CBS Execs. Overall Big Brother has got to be ONE BIG FAT CASH COW for CBS.

Two and Half Men and NCIS are scripted, and costly to produce.

Big Bro is cheap, cheap, cheap. It has a really meager Grand and 2nd place prize that is awarded after 3 months of 24/7 coverage; 13-14 $750 a week stipends that goes down one person each progressive week; some low paid interns to test some really cheesy, recycled props for HOH/POV; a couple six packs of Bud and a few bottles of 2 buck chuck a week; Target inspired furnishings; someone to make 12 buckets of SLOP every other week; and occasional cans of Raid. We don't even care if they are wearing deodorant.

Meanwhile CBS is getting ratings, advertising dollars, product Placement fees, America Choice text fees, 3 hours nightly of Showtime programming AND 24/7 live subscriptions at at $30 bucks a throw. Ali G will be dragging Big Bro's dead Cow carcus around as long as possible - even the Donald threw in the towel - but not Ms. G. Actually I admire her shamelessness right now.

I hate to tell ya, but the feeds haven't been $ 30.00 for a few years now... Even with the discount it was still like $ 34.95 or so... That's if you went for the 3 months and not monthly...

Hello all

First off, I need to apologize for posting incorrect info last week. Thank you to Loudmouth42 for pointing it out. I guess my excitement of seeing BB with 3 episodes in the top 20 blinded me to the fact that the list I was looking at was just CBS shows. Here is last weeks ACTUAL Nielson list and sadly, not a BB to be found:

Rank Shows Net HH RATING (LIVE+SD) HH SHARE (LIVE+SD) # OF HOMES (LIVE+SD) (000) # Viewers (LIVE+SD) (000) 18-49 Rank
