Bb And The Bible

Guys...

I believe most religions teach us that God controls everything- from the minute to the really, really big stuff.

There is not better 'objective' or 'time' for God.

He does it all...equally.

That includes Big Brother, AIDS, and people who talk during the movies....

He does not have 'better things to do'....etc etc.

I disagree and here's why. Since the dawn of time when Adam and Eve were in the Garden, even before this life, we as beings were given free will/the power to choose.

This is important to bear in mind because if we chalked it all up to "God being in control of everyone/thing" then it would be God responsible for children being raped, or mothers being killed...etc...

God does not bring all this suffering upon the heads of His children... more often than not, people do. He has given us life, choice, freedoms and abilities. Sadly, we are the ones who abuse these gifts.

With regards to disease, in many instances, we can choose to protect ourselves from contracting them, like AIDS. If i need a blood transfusion and get one only to find that the blood I received was tainted, it's not God's fault for bringing that upon my head, rather, human error. Heart disease and many cancers, there too we can protect ourselves against. It may not always be successfully, but for me personally, I believe that my body is entity of it's own. I respect it's own choice but know I can influence it to be well. I do certainly believe in the power of prayer however in protecting and healing these things.

How does all this fit in with BB? While I do believe that God is mindful of the well being of each participant, while I believe He provides them with strength, courage, and clarity while in the midst of confrontations (if they so choose to hearken unto it), I don't think He has predetermined the winner. The winner comes about via their own actions, as well as a series of events that have been implemented by other human beings. The "good" guy does not always win. In fact, he rarely does. So is God then punishing him and rewarding the "bad" guy? Not at all. Both of these Houseguests have been given free will, and it's up to them what they do with it. Mike is a prime example of this. Good guy, totally loyal, but he made a bad decision (though he believes he chose the right), and voila! He's out of the game!

As for the bible, I totally think they should have the right to bring in this or any other scripture that they feel so inclined to. If this is a part of who they are, they absolutely are entitled to exposing that part of themselves. It would be like telling someone to turn off their ethnicity or their "gayness" to spare viewers who don't want to hear about it or be preached to in that regard.

There again, we as the viewers also have a choice... we can turn off the tv or feeds.

Were Bibles Allowed In BB1???????

I guess I thought that even Bibles were banned. I thought the original rational against having bibles was that the contestents could point to the different words of text and get messages to others without actually talking.

I might be confused-after all BB1 was eight years ago. But, for some reason, I thought that I remembered there being a very legitimate reason to not have them in the house.

OK I am a little late getting in on this thread, but here's my thoughts any way...

(our oldest child is building a house behind ours and they have been here for the past couple of days and I haven't been able to do much other than entertain them)

OK so this is the way I see it... They do sign a contract that states NO BOOKS... I would assume that meant all books... Yes including the bible...

They have a choice of not going on the show or going on the show and leaving the bible at home... It doesn't stop them from practicing their religion...

They can still talk about God, pray, talk about the bible, even hold a service if they wanted to... What's the difference between that and the separation of church and state?

If there were a devil worshiper in the house and they brought their satanic bible in the house what would be the out cry then?

If there were a wiccan in the house should they be able to bring in their spell books?

Like others have said, my favorite author is Piers Anthony, if I wanted to say that my religion is that I believe in the land of Xanth and that Anthony's Xanth series is my form of the bible should I be allowed to bring them in? I mean there are what like 25 in the series now...

I think the thing is to a lot of people them not being allowed to bring the bible (word of God) into the house would be taboo...

I am the daughter of a minister and for me personally I don't have to have the bible with me everywhere I go because I know the word of God and know when I am doing right or wrong and can ask for forgiveness without having to read that I should...

I would be willing to bet that they don't take the bible with them on vacation...

What does having a bible in the house bring them? Like others have said it brings on some really strange behavior is all...

On the subject of Jameka declaring people good and evil, I was taught and still believe strongly in the passage "Judge not lest ye be judged"... Now with that said, I will be the first to tell you that I don't always follow this passage as I should, but I do try not to judge others, even though it's somewhat human nature...

I just don't like the way they will stab someone in the back, turn on people, lie about others, and then try to justify it with the bible...

well put Yana...I also agree. The bibles have just started making an appearance in the house the last what 3 seasons? I dont remember the season with Jason having one and he was very religious. I also dont remember jee brining any religious material with him (cant remember what he practices) but I do remember him doing a very nice ceremony for his dad that passed. I'm not saying that you cant practice what you believe but they seem to be just using the bible to read because they have nothing else to do.

Jamie had magazines in BB1 and got in trouble for using them as a tool to communicate non-verbally to a housemate.

Survivor allowed players a "comfort item" in some seasons, I think I saw a few Bibles back in those episodes (one duffus brought a magic 8 ball) but in the last couple season you are only allowed to bring the clothes on your back, and those clothes better not have logos on them. I think the key here is to copy the Bible onto your shorts and read it while you do your laundry.

Funny thing is, those who study the bible don't need to carry it to quote it. They know all the scriptures and can quote the bible on cue. so, in my humble opinion I believe the bible is brought in for effect only.
