This year's forum is more interesting than what's going on in the house. I've been a regular fan of Morty's site for the last few seasons, and this is the first time I've ever posted more than one comment. If the season stays the way it is so far, maybe they ought to give one of us or Morty the million bucks for lasting the whole three months! :P

There are several topics i have posted in here and now they arent here????  why are topics being taken out??????

Have you checked all ten pages? Have you duplicated topics without realizing?

It may be that they have not disappeared at all or they were copied into the appropriate place!

This summer's disappointing box office has been rumored to have spawned a spate of online shills. The purpose of an online shill is to sell a film or a tv show to a demographic that will watch it.  With movies like Cinderella Man experiencing less than stellar runs and television viewership, even on traditional summer fare like Big Brother 6 and Average Joe: The Joes Strike Back down as well, some studios are hiring college and high school students to post positive feedback about their movie or show on message boards and in chat rooms."

So, is anybody here a shill and how do I get a job like that? :P

Its true they say this is a 'down' year for a lot of films and shows etc.

Maybe there is actually 'too many' movies and shows coming out?

I did hear that Cinderella Man is simply astonishing and amazing but didnt do that well in terms of 'numbers'.

I could see people associated or related to some show 'artificially' trying to boost a show on the internet.

Even over-intense fans trying to bolster what they percieve as their 'cause'.

This happened just recently with Revenge of the Sith where a relatively small but very determined group of fanboys or 'Quellies' flooded IMDB with RAVE REVIEWS and 10 Star ratings.. many posts just MINUTES after the first midnight premiere ended. (from laptops i assume).

Anyone looking for a good movie to see and checked IMDB was met with "LUCAS REDEEMED!!!!! TEN STARS!!!!" and ran to see the film.

Anyyyyway.

No, Im not a Shill.

I doubt you find too many 'Shills' for Big Brother. To be honest Big Brother has done anything BUT pander to its Internet Fanatics.

In fact, there has been numerous 'Revolts' by internet fans who were outraged BB began charging MORE and MORE for the Live Feeds.

Petitions were ignored and some BB Fansites have been pushed around by BB for posting too many clips etc.

This after many people credited the success of BB1 with the very loyal and 'evangelical' internet fans.

Believe it or not... I dont have television most of the year and get Cable hooked up during the summer for BB.

I pay for all the bandwidth to get funny BB pics and fansites up and running and donate them free of charge or obligation if CBS uses them on the show for an luxury prize episode.

If I can do updates here its in spite of the fact I despise Realplayer and paying 40 dollars CDN for the live feeds.

Heck.. I even donate my 'dollar donations' to the other sites (like this) that deliver their own free efforts.

Im not special at all here.. Im sure most everyone else that contributes here can say twice or more about themselves of what they do.

To the best of my knowledge Ranster is not a 'Shill' either but then again... rumour is that he has totally redesigned his living room into an exact replica of the Star Trek set???

Hmm didnt that show air on CBS Ranster?

;)

I'm not a shill.

I don't go to as many movies because I am tired of the high prices and the low quality theater experience.

They kept trying to cancel my favorite TV show (Stargate SG-1) but it has survived 2 years past when they wanted to cancel it and it is still going strong.

I believe that hiring "shills" is a short term fix. It may bring up viewership (is that a word) for one or two shows, but if the show isn't good or the subject doesn't interest me, then I'm not going to watch it.

I don't think Ranster is a shill. The posts are pretty much in line with the tone of the board and don't stick out like a sore thumb.

Of course, shills used to be easy to spot. They posted threads like, "Gigli rocks, bi-hatch!" and "For shizzie... Mickey D's chicken selects are off da hizzie." Now shills post in all-ready existing threads as if they were just like the regular members. Sometimes it's easy to tell because they're trying too hard to be "hip" and "cool" to try and win us over with typical teen or internet slang. This used to result in many a severe flaming of the shill to which they wouldn't respond. They'd just go with it trying anything and everything they could to push their product and get that new video game.

Those days are gone because shills fight back now. They won't go with out a struggle and they will bring the whole board crashing down with them to push their product. I have friends who work at these marketing firms where they write fake reviews and give kids things like IPods to create buzz for their product on the internet. The kids they hire are net-savvy and couldn't give a rats' arse about the product they're hawking. All they want is to get that promised prize or paycheck and they're familiar enough with the web to pull it off - most of the time, anyway. It's not easy, but media shills still leave some tracks:

-The reviews are designed to sound like a fan's ramble and intentionally contain odd phobic remarks and extremely exaggerated reactions, sometimes with slang that is oh so last year. Example: "Howie is such a hottie!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope he keeps his butt to the wall when he's around Beau. Can't stand that girly-man, but the real guys are da bomb!"

-The reviews are never completely positive. They usually start with gushing hyperbole in favor of the show or film tempered with a mention of it's shortcomings. Example: "Big Brother 6 has the coolest cast I have seen in years. Yeah, they may talk about farts all day, but who cares when they are so hot and so funny?"

-The ending of the shill's post often includes a statement aimed to spin any negative talk on the board. To the multiple discussions on this board about the homogenous cast they might say, "The biggest surprise is how great looking everyone is. It's amazing how even though it is a young, hot cast that it is so diverse with a Muslim, a lesbian and so on. Believe me, they cast it right."

-The shills are often instructed to post right around the same time as real test screenings (of movies) so they webmasters will assume they are genuine. Here it might go like "I know someone who's on the cast and he is hot. I can't wait for the season to start."

Why has the team coverage page suddenly gotten so x-rated. when Morty did them he was certainly more classy. Is this Big Brother coverage or Porn update?

No we update what they are doing and talking about. If you don't like what the HG are saying complain to CBS not us.

First off I am one of the one's doing updates... I have never spelled out any word that might be offinsive... Not everyone is updating the ssexual words or the cussing... Please don't lump us all together...

Sex talk is probably 75% of the day. All conversations turn to sex talk and comments and we report as close to what they say and do. If you find it offensive what the HG are doing than I suggest you get the live feeds and start posting what you think should be posted. Instead of complaining do something about it.

You're very welcome... I know sometimes people can be offended by what is posted... but they are right... it's what the HG's are saying... :?

I could just about predict your responses. Thank you for your insight. I would have to imagine that you are all under the age of 30. I will just watch Big Brother on television and forget about the donation that I was giong to give to this site. It was so great the last 2 years and I couldn't afford to give anything back then. Morty, I am sorry that you have given this over to other people and ruined the integrity of a great website. You obviously have my email address Morty, If you ever get this back to the way it was let me know and I will donate big time.

I try and not post about their conversations on sex or bodily functions, but at times its hard not to. The cast this season seems to end up on these topics quite often. I try and sensor some of the words but other times i just dictatate what i hear as i hear it. And from what I have seen the conversations in the live feeds get to be far worse than what is posted. Sorry if you are offended. Plus you are lucky to not be hearing or reading everything Howie says.
