The Southeastern Film Critics Association, which consists of newspaper film critics from nine U.S. states, including Alabama, Georgia, North and South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia, made their choices for the Best in Film in 2006 on Sunday, December 17.

There were no major surprises in the individual award categories. "The Departed" took home top honors in the Best Film category while Martin Scorsese added to the film's Oscar buzz by winning Best Director kudos for his vision. The highly stylized film from Mexico, "El Laberinto del fauno," which translates to "Pan's Labyrinth," captured Best Foreign Film.

In the acting categories, both winners won for portraying real life modern day historical figures. Forest Whitaker earned his Best Actor for the Idi Amin biopic, "The Last King of Scotland." Giving her interpretation of Queen Elizabeth following Princess Diana's tragic death, Helen Mirren took home the Best Actress award for "The Queen."

However, it is interesting that their pick for the Wyatt Award
