Prison Break

Thank goodness fall TV started pre-Labor Day, and that this is the show kicking the whole thing off. This gritty, puzzling drama is already one of my favorites, and it's not just because Wentworth Miller is possibly the best-looking guy on TV this fall. Sorry

Prison Break

by Matt Webb Mitovich.

RE-NEWS: With the fall TV season almost two weeks under way, pickup orders are starting to trickle in. Among the first beneficiaries are Fox's Prison Break and American Dad and NBC's The Office. Each of the Fox series has been granted a full 22-episode commitment

I wonder what's going to happen on the show once they break out of prison. It looks like they're pretty close already from the looks of the way Michael's cell mate and the older guy were sniffing the fresh air coming out of the hole they drilled.

PS That inbred pervert guy is such a creep!

PPS I wonder if Michael and the doctor will ever kiss!

A co-worker of mine told me about this show at lunch the other day .. and it sounded good. FX re-airs a lot of Fox's shows on the weekends, so I watched a marathon of episodes today .. this show is REALLY good.

I don't really like John Abruzzi (the guy with the long greasy hair, or Theodore "T-Bag" Bagwell (the inbred pedophile guy).

Prison Break

After several weeks off I really needed the handy little "last time on Prison Break" reminder to get me caught up, especially with the lame conspiracy-Robin Tunney subplot. Honestly, if it doesn't happen inside the guarded prison walls, I'm really not that interested. Sure, Veronica nearly exploded, and her poor maintenance man bit the dust, but I was much more upset by the death of Charles' cat Marilyn. That poor kitty did nothing to anyone. She was just minding her own business in the steam pipes, and then wham. But was it T-Bag or Bellick who put the cat down? And while LJ is being framed for a double homicide

PRISON BREAKS: Prison Break is once again getting furloughed by Fox. In a November-sweeps press release issued Thursday, Fox referred to the show's Nov. 28 episode as its "fall finale," but gave no indication as to when it would be back. Adding to the mystery: A network rep would only say that Prison's remaining nine episodes would air at a "later date." As previously reported, 24 assumes Prison's Monday-9 pm time slot in early January. (Damn you, 24! Oh, wait

'Prison' Leads to Breakout Roles for Miller, Purcell

By Bill Keveney, USA TODAY

FOX

A riot, some stabbings, a smooshy love plot and brotherly love make 'Prison Break' a hit.

(Oct. 31) -- Fox's Prison Break (Monday at 8 and 9 ET/PT) takes the question "Am I my brother's keeper?" to a new level. Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller, 33) robs a bank to get into prison so he can spring his death-row brother, Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell, 35), who may have been framed for murder. USA TODAY chats with the stars behind bars:

Wentworth Miller:

Q: Doesn't the plot strain belief?

A: Absolutely. We play it as though it's real, but we're basically making a comic book. In the universe of Prison Break, when you get your toes cut off, by the end of the episode, it's back to business. If this were a real-life drama, I'd be sitting in my cell nursing my toes for the rest of my sentence. (Related story: Fox takes another swing after dismal Series)

Q: How long does Michael's body tattoo take in makeup?

A: That's a four- to five-hour process (for the full torso). It's averaging once an episode. The rest of the time, it's just a piece of my arm or shoulder. I keep telling myself it's such a great special effect that it's worth the time and effort. It could be worse. If this were Star Trek, I could be wearing some prosthetic headpiece 14 hours a day.

Q: What's the coolest thing about working in a real prison (Joliet, near Chicago, opened in 1858 and closed a couple of years ago)?

A: Joliet's history is alive and well. We have about 100 extras playing inmates and correctional officers, and a lot of them were former inmates or correctional officers at Joliet.

Q: Have you learned anything that would help if you really went to prison?

A: Keep your eyes down. It seems like an incredibly dangerous environment.

Q: Michael seems to have his hands full with fellow inmates and guards.

A: We have really good character work. A show like this is only as good as its antagonists. We have some great, great bad guys.

Q: As a strong leading-man type, is there a chance for romance in Michael's future?

A: The voluntary kind, you mean? (Laughs) I would think so. They've certainly set it up that way (with prison infirmary doctor Sara Tancredi, played by Sarah Wayne Callies). But, as with the best onscreen romances, there are many, many, many obstacles between them.

Q: Three people were killed last week. Life seems pretty cheap in Prison Break.

A: You have no idea who's going to go and when. We do hear rumors from time to time, and people get nervous that their number's going to be next.

Q: Do you two go to the same barber?

A: I've had my head shaved on and off for a number of years. Dominic followed suit. ... I think they did a very good job with casting. It's pretty believable, as onscreen sibling casting goes.

Dominic Purcell:

Q: How much of the story do you know?

A: From what (executive producer Paul Scheuring) has told me, we're in prison for the first season and break out and then we're on the run. Then we try to work out the conspiracy that put Lincoln behind bars.

Q: Is it hard to believe a man would go to jail to try to break his brother out?

A: History suggests that people do lay their lives down for someone and take huge risks for loved ones. I'm not sure if I would go to the extremes Michael went to. I have five brothers. If they ended up in prison, you know, "You're on your own, man."

Q: How did you end up with a shaved head?

A: I got there (for the audition) and I had this long mane, kind of looked like a beach boy. And all the suits at Fox were saying, "Now tell Dominic he cannot cut his hair." So that just made me say, "I'm going to cut my hair and I'm going to shave it." And Wentworth had a shaved head and we are playing brothers and we've kind of got similarly shaped big melons.

Q: Ever been to jail?

A: When I was 22, I may have woken up in a holding cell somewhere.

Q: What have you learned on Prison Break that would serve you in jail?

A: The first thing is, pretty quickly you've got to align yourself with a gang. Otherwise, you're on your own and at the immediate mercy of every single gang. That's terrifying.

Q: How much of the action scenes do you do?

A: We tend to do the majority of the stunts. I enjoy physical combat, more or less. I've been playing rugby league. I grew up learning certain martial arts.

Q: How is the prison cast?

A: It's a great bunch. The performances are not pedestrian. It's a real actor's piece, much like The Shield and Oz.

Q: T-Bag seems particularly scary.

A: The great thing about Rob (Knepper) is the guy is such a sweetheart. People are avoiding him on the street because they think he's a psychopath.

Q: Working in an Illinois prison must be a far cry from the Hawaiian hotel set of Fox's failed soap North Shore.

A: Let's not talk about that. (Laughs) Dude, that was just one cheesefest. I've never been so self-conscious as an actor.

Prison Break

Thank goodness that the editors on this show know to cut away from tough-to-watch moments just as I'm getting completely squeamish. Like just after T-Bag's boy steps off the ledge and right after Abruzzi puts the broken lightbulb on that guy's eye. However, we do still have to see skeezy T-Bag hitting on the new fish who gets two nicknames: "Tweener" and "Snowflake." I like Michael even more now that I know about his psychological condition. He's sympathetic to those in need

Ok so they are taking my show away from me? WHY?????????????????? you can't just cut it off in the middle. Not when it's getting sooooooooooooo good. :(

No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was really upset when they killed the cat.

What am I going to do without my show?

Prison Break

It was kind of interesting to watch Veronica's revelation about the siphoning of funds for the Veep's ambitious presidential campaign juxtaposed with the 10 o'clock news in the New York area, which featured stories about the crazy spending in the NYC mayoral campaign and the NJ gubernatorial race. I'm not trying to be all political or insinuate that any of the real-life politicians were part of a massive government extortion plot and murder cover-up, just thought it was weirdly coincidental timing. Actually, a lot of money almost changed hands in this episode. Michael tried to extort 200 grand from Falzone, and the aptly named C-Note offers up 100 bucks a month (which gets negotiated to 150) to the one-eyed guy running the work crew for a job. Loved that Abruzzi and Michael ganged up and scammed Falzone in a big way. And the way that Abruzzi came hunting down Michael when he heard the news

Was anyone else totally grossed out that the guy who was chasing Veronica and Co. used sandpaper on himself to make it look like he was in an accident? That's true devotion to your job. But this villianous creep deserved to suffer for the take-no-prisoners-alive way he went about trying to eliminate any threats to the VP's cover-up campaign. Boy did he get his in the end. Go L.J.! Way to tackle him and push him in the well. Nice humane way to deal with an inhumane individual. Too bad that the other two goons weren't as sympathetic and left him in the woods

I so did not see T-Bag's retaliation against Abruzzi coming. I seriously jumped when he slit his throat. That's gonna add another kink in Scofield's plan. That is if he can ever get around the fact that his brother just got tossed in the shoe while trying to keep the crew from getting busted. That can't be good since they've only got a few days to get out of dodge and their main form of transportation may or may not be lying dead on a concrete floor. Sure Abruzzi was no saint

got my TV Guide yesterday and I was so not impressed that they are running the escape next week ... kinda ... they are going to show us the escape but leave us hanging for 5 months about what happens and who lives and doesn't ...

seems to be the way nowadays with these 5 month long breaks or more ... I love this show, but they run a real risk of losing people's attention. Although I want to know what happens, who knows what else will be happening in 5 months that will collide with my current need to know ... just a rant ... don't mind me!

Question: Prison Break keeps getting better and better every week, but Fox doesn't have a time slot for it on the spring schedule. What are they going to do there? My guess is they'll keep things as planned, and if House fails on Mondays or Bones doesn't keep enough of American Idol's lead-in, maybe they'll make a move and get Prison Break back in there for the final nine episodes. Probably the best bet would be to get rid of the "comedy" hour Wednesday at 8 pm/ET and put Prison Break there, leading right into American Idol. Fox totally dropped the ball on the best sitcom of this generation, Arrested Development. Don't tell me they are going to do it to this show, too.

Prison Break

The good news: Prison Break will be returning with new episodes in March instead of "sometime this summer" as had originally been rumored. The bad? Now we've got to wait until freakin' March to find out what happens with Michael, Lincoln and the rest of the Fox River wannabe escapees. As cliff-hangers go, this one was pretty amazing. Nice FBI guy Danny gets shot for blowing the whistle on Madam VP's murderous plot, but mostly because he implicated Paul in the process. Veronica
