The 2010 Summer Television Season: Wednesday

Wednesdays this summer are full of pretty 20-somethings doing ridiculous and improbable things to their bodies. FOX's So You Think You Can Dance is a summer favorite because the dancers are just so good. I don't even know or care anything about dance, but you don't have to know much to recognize just how very talented these kids are. In contrast, summer stalwart Big Brother features a bunch of kids with no discernible talents aside from being able to live in a house for three months with no television or internet. It's a people aquarium. And somehow, it's become a summer television classic.

On your cable channels, the Ghost Hunters franchises air (personally, I can't stand Ghost Hunters Academy, but Ghost Hunters International makes do until the original Ghost Hunters can return), Betty White returns to the small screen on TV Land's Hot in Cleveland, and the best cooking show on television, Top Chef, finally returns.

Here at Tubular HQ, we're going to be watching So You Think You Can Dance (duh), Happy Town (at least until its conclusion on June 30th), and Top Chef for the eye candy. Yes, I'm talking about Padma.

What will you be watching?

Major Big Brother 12 House Details

We just had another visit from our Anonymous commenter, and this time the house dec description is so detailed, even I'm inclined to believe it! Might someone be having a bit of fun with me? Sure! Why not? Might this incredibly detailed description be legit? It's equally possible!

We're all so excited for BB12 to start & to find out any details right now, ASAP, yesterday... So I've decided to bring this up to the front page and make it as accessible as possible. Without further ado, here's "Anonymous"!

Media day was yesterday. Here's what I can share.

* As expected, the BB12 house is decorated with mostly a beach/summer camp theme. One of the walls has been taken down and there are now only two bedrooms (not counting HOH).

* The small bedroom looks like a beach with various size sandcastles (fake) and beach balls. There's a really pretty ocean mural painted on the wall with reeds running along it which makes it look very realistic. Two of the beds are beach lounge chairs and two of the beds are simply beach towels. In this room, there are no mattresses.

* The big bedroom looks like a summer camp cabin. There are bunk beds along the wall and a big sleeping bag on the floor which fits more than one person. A giant (fake) moose head hangs from the wall. The dressers are adorned with lanterns and other cabin-esque accents.

* In the living room, there's a big screen behind the couches and nomination chairs that plays a continuous loop of crashing waves. Fake palm trees stand on each side of it. The carpet is shag and sandy colored. The wall opposite the nomination chairs is decorated with an ocean sunset mural which is gorgeous. The whole room looks like a tropical paradise.

* There's a large fish tank between the living room and the kitchen with really exotic looking fish inside. It's the first thing you see when you walk into the house.

* The kitchen looks like a cabin. There's a big round picnic table in the corner. Glossy wood paneling covers the walls which lends to the summer camp cabin theme. The floors are hardwood. The memory wall is made of glossy wood paneling as well and it's designed to look like big (plastic) ladybugs are crawling all over it. Really cute.

* The bathroom is really pretty. The walls are shiny and metallic and decorated with different shades of blue and the floor looks like sand (fake though). The seashell sinks are designed to look like they're floating in mid air. Big blue lava lamps hang on the wall on each side of the mirror. The bathroom gives off an "under the sea" vibe.

* The diary room looks the same as last year except the background is lit red instead of blue.

* The hallway to the HOH room is also beach themed, but instead of the usual couch/chess set on the upstairs landing, there's now a mini gazebo.

* The HOH room is bizarre. It's sort of a creepy carnival theme which doesn't fit with the rest of the house at all. In one corner, there's a fortune telling arcade machine. In another corner, there's a tank with a giant (and I mean GIANT) tarantula inside. Along the walls are funhouse mirrors which make you look taller/shorter/fatter/skinnier as you walk past them.

* The backyard has a volleyball net but there are no volleyballs. Just beach balls. The pool table is gone and a foosball table has taken is place.

* The "green" room (formerly the spa/workout room) is perhaps the most bizarre room we've ever seen in all twelve seasons of Big Brother. It's decorated to look like a funeral parlor. In the middle of the room is a big white casket with an open lid. Behind the casket is a large frame that says "rest in peace" with a space for someone's picture in the middle. The casket is surrounded by funeral bouquets. With the exception of a small table in the corner and a candy dish, there is nothing else in this room. The walls are plain white with minimal decor.

A new season of BIG BROTHER returns this summer with an expanded multi-platform presence on-air (CBS Television), online (RealNetworks, a redesigned CBS.com, the CBS Audience Network and Twitter), on the phone (CBS Mobile) and on cable (SHOWTIME).

CBS's BIG BROTHER multi-platform initiative includes the following elements:

"BIG BROTHER" on THE CBS TELEVISION NETWORK:

  • BIG BROTHER returns on Thursday, July 8 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT), on the CBS Television Network. "BIG BROTHER" ONLINE:
  • Full-length episodes, highlight clips and other content from BIG BROTHER will be available across the vast CBS Audience Network, allowing a community of fans to watch the program online and incorporate clips into their blogs, wikis and widgets and interact as well as discuss BIG BROTHER on message boards. The CBS Audience Network consists of dozens of distribution partners including MSN, Yahoo, Fancast, Joost, Bebo, Sling Media, Windows Media Center, IMDb, Sony Bravia, TVGuide and Veoh, as well as websites from CBS's 29 owned television stations, 144 radio stations and up to 183 affiliated stations.

  • CBS and RealNetworks, Inc. join forces for the 10th straight cycle to provide exclusive All Access live streaming video from inside the BIG BROTHER house. The webcast coverage debuts immediately following the Thursday, July 8 premiere and will be accessible through the official BIG BROTHER Web site at CBS.com and through Real's SuperPass subscription service.

  • All new this season, CBS.com will launch the Big Brother Ultimate Fan contest: BIG BROTHER fans will earn points and rewards across a suite of Big Brother games and community elements based on their activity. The fan with the most points at the end of the season will win the title of "Ultimate Fan." The grand prize includes a trip to the finale and a chance to meet the BIG BROTHER Houseguests. The winner will be randomly selected among the top 25 percent of high scorers. Fans can earn points and badges by playing "Big Brother Fantasy" video trivia, commenting on clips, "fanning" Houseguests and having highly-rated message board posts. Registration will launch June 30, with the contest beginning July 8.

  • Also new this season will be a Video Trivia game: the fast-paced weekly trivia game will include questions and clips from BIG BROTHER episodes and will go live shortly after the season premiere.

  • Last season, CBS launched two very successful Twitter experiences to keep BIG BROTHER fans and viewers "in the know" with daily updates from a production insider. "BigBrotherScoop" (www.Twitter.com/BigBrotherScoop) will provide exclusive updates as things happen in real time, and "BigBrotherHoH" (www.Twitter.com/BigBrotherHoH) will give that week's Head Of Household the opportunity to tweet daily messages directly to viewers and fans. To obtain instant updates for all your favorite CBS Stars, go to www.CBS.com/Twitter or follow us www.Twitter.com/CBSTweet.

  • Official BIG BROTHER website redesigned and relaunched on CBS.com (www.cbs.com/bigbrother) to include:
    • More videos and photos than ever before where fans can catch up on prior episodes and be primed for upcoming shows.
    • New "Interact" section where fans will find the latest community conversations, participate in the most recent polls, watch and vote for their favorite moments of the season and connect with other BIG BROTHER fans.
    • More content, including summaries of all the events that happen during each televised broadcast; descriptions of the week's challenges; voting history pages; photo galleries and House Guest section with complete profiles.
    • The return of "BIG BROTHER Fantasy League" (http://www.cbs.com/bbfantasy), an online contest that lets fans compete for the chance to win the grand prize of $1,000 while they follow the on-air broadcast to see which BIG BROTHER contestant will make it to the end. Each week, BIG BROTHER fans choose two active BIG BROTHER contestants to be on their team. Players accrue points based on their ability to predict their team members' actions and outcome of events.
    • "HEAD OF HOUSEHOLD BLOG AND PHOTO GALLERY" returns for its fifth season, where fans will be able to hear straight from the Head of Household about life inside the BIG BROTHER house, what it's like to be under the constant gaze of dozens of cameras and watched live on the Internet 24/7. www.CBS.com/bigbrother will also feature photos taken inside the house by the weekly HOH (Head of Household).
    • The entire three-month live All Access Internet feed of BIG BROTHER will be available through SuperPass. Subscribers to the All Access video stream can watch any one of four live camera feeds from inside the BIG BROTHER house or catch all of the action at once with a new enhanced quad-cam view which allows fans to see four different video feeds simultaneously. Subscribers will also have access to an exclusive subscribers-only webchat that allows fans from across the country to converse about what they see live on the feeds. Subscribers will have full access to the feed archives so they can go back and watch any moment they may have missed. (As in past years, CBS may block or delay the webcast for a limited time and other events that transpire in the house to preserve the drama for BIG BROTHER television viewers.)

"BIG BROTHER" MOBILE:

  • BIG BROTHER episodes will be simulcast on the CBS Mobile Channel presented on FLO TV's live mobile TV service.
  • Viewers will be able to interact and influence the show by participating in fan polls via SMS text messaging from their mobile phones.
  • BIG BROTHER Mobile Game: Fans can download and play the game in which they compete as if they were actually living inside the BIG BROTHER house as one of the past Houseguests. They can play various mini-games for Head of Household, Power of Veto and for food.

"BIG BROTHER" on CABLE:
  • CBS and Showtime will partner again to present "BIG BROTHER: After Dark," a live look inside the Big Brother house during the late-night hours. "BIG BROTHER: After Dark" will feature a feed from the BIG BROTHER house for three hours (12:00-3:00 AM, live ET/9:00 PM-12:00 AM, live PT), seven days a week, on the multiplex channel SHO2TM beginning Thursday, July 8.

BIG BROTHER follows a group of people living together in a house outfitted with over 52 cameras and microphones, recording their every move 24 hours-a-day. Each week, the House Guests will vote someone out of the house. At the end, the last remaining House Guest will receive the grand prize of $500,000.

BIG BROTHER is executive produced by Emmy Award-winning producer Allison Grodner and Rich Meehan for Fly on the Wall Entertainment, in association with Endemol U.S.A.

Big Brother Adds New Twist to Season 12

Jun 29, 2010 02:28 PM ET

by Robyn Ross

Big Brother producers are adding another level of treachery a la The Mole with what they've labeled a "saboteur."

When the show premieres Thursday, July 8 at 8/7c on CBS, one of the houseguests will have a separate mission: to sabotage the rest of them. This player's goal will be unknown to the rest of the cast. Viewers, however, will learn the person's identity July 15 — when the first live show airs.

The show — one of summer TV's guiltiest pleasures — features contestants living with and competing against each other to win $500,000. Their every move is captured on cameras rolling 24 hours a day.

Viewers will be able to influence the game by suggesting ways the saboteur can best wreak havoc on the players. Because each week a different houseguest is evicted, the longer the secret player can stay in the game and maintain his anonymity, the more remunerative it will be for him.

Executive producer Allison Grodner calls the person "a game piece ... that will make life for the houseguests harder than ever before."

What do you think of the new twist?

Cross posted from the Ragan thread.

Alright, here is the clip where he talks about applying to be on Big Brother, on his podcast. It's from October 2008, so maybe he's been trying for awhile. WARNING! This podcast is not safe for work. Do not play this around children. Do not play this if you are easily offended. You can skip directly to the part where he talks about Big Brother by fast forwarding to the time stamp 18:00-20:00. It's about 2 minutes long.

http://foxinthecity....?post_id=389961

Again- Ragan's podcast is pretty crude, political, and offensive. Listen at your own risk. (The Big Brother part is relatively safe.)

Moderators- I hope it's alright to post this here.

Here's a part of a TV Guide article which mentions the 14th HG who dropped out.

paoloaviles.jpg

So how does the Season 12 cast stack up? TV Guide Magazine interviewed each of the players right before they went into the BB house. (Paolo Aviles, a 30-year-old out-of-work real estate agent, later got cold feet and quit the show, dropping the head count to 13.)We found no shortage of Type-A show-offs and high-maintenance personalities among this year's group, but they were virtually unanimous in their dislike of Season 11 prima donna Chima Simone, who was ejected from the show when she disobeyed Grodner's repeated requests to go to the diary room and threw her pricey body mike into the swimming pool.

The article continues with more about the show and describing all 13 HGs.

Thanks for the article! At least we got a glimpse of the missing houseguest. It's insane to me that someone would get 'cold feet' and drop out before it started! Who DOES that?

I really wish the producers could have just pulled in a backup person. You would think they had plenty of people on standby..

KCTV5 Julie Chen Interview

Julie reveals some details on saboteur...

Hmmmmmmm, very interesting. Julie says "as of right now" the saboteur does not have a chance at the 500k winnings.

Meaning.....if the producers decide to change their minds later, they can, depending on how far the saboteur gets.

Proof positive the show is manipulated...............as if we didn't already know :animated_scratchchin:
