'Honeymoon' Over for Gabrielle Union

union.jpg

Chris Howard and Gabrielle Union

The honeymoon is over for "The Honeymooners'" Gabrielle Union. In a brief statement late Monday, October 31, her publicist announced the actress' split with former NFL running back Chris Howard. "Gabrielle Union and Chris Howard have separated after four years of marriage," said Lisa Kussell.

"The couple remains close and asks that you respect their privacy at this difficult time," Russell requested of the press corps and the paparazzi. There was no word on whether a divorce was forthcoming and no reason was given for the separation by their representatives.

Union, who currently costars in ABC's supernatural series "Night Stalker," and Howard, who played three season for the Jacksonville Jaguars, met at a bowling alley. They dated for two years before marrying in May 2001. It was the first marriage for both. They didn't have any children.

News of the breakup came just two days after Union's 32nd birthday, which will likely go down as her worst. Just a week before, the "Bring It On" star was inadvertently drawn into a battle between her high-powered PR firm, BWR Public Relations, and the owner of a hot Hollywood nightclub.

An email written by BWR's Holly Shakoor and quickly circulated to Hollywood in-boxes called for a boycott of Club Mood because owner David Judaken's allegedly scuttled a planned b-day bash for Union because she is black.

"I want to make you all aware of this so you can discourage your celeb clients from going and also doing any events with him," Shakoor wrote. Judaken, in turn, insisted that he would never make such racist remarks. "All the statements written in her email are untrue," he said.

"To say that this event was canceled over race or creed is hurtful and slanderous," Judaken said. Facing a potential lawsuit, BWR soon backtracked. "BWR apologizes to Mr. Judaken for any harm to his reputation that may have been caused by the false allegations," the firm said in a statement.

"If BWR could withdraw this claim from the court of public opinion, it would," the firm continued in their statement. To which, Judaken replied, "I appreciate BWR's prompt investigation of these claims and their integrity in taking appropriate action to remedy this situation."

Union, meanwhile, declined to be drawn into the brouhaha. Aside from the struggling "Night Stalker," which airs Thursdays opposite CBS' "CSI," Union has a small role in the Gwyneth Paltrow dramedy, "Running with Scissors," due in theaters next year.

Denise and Charlie Rekindle Romance

richards_sheen2.jpg

Denise Richards and Charlie Sheen

Charlie Sheen and Denise Richards' once doomed marriage seems to have weathered the storm. For the second time in recent months, Sheen took to late-night television Thursday to profess his belief that things with Richards "are really good."

The "Two and a Half Men" star was a guest on the "Late Late Show" and when asked by host Craig Ferguson about the state of their relationship, Sheen displayed his wedding band-clad finger. "That's a pretty good indication," he said with a smile.

Richards filed for divorce from Sheen in March, citing irreconcilable differences. Though she never revealed the reasons for her actions, Sheen has publicly denied that the split came about as a result of any infidelity on his part.

However, Sheen's not above offering some insight into why he was given the boot. "I think the one thing I would point to as a primary reason, basically, is that I was a gigantic ass," he said on "The Late Show with David Letterman" in September, adding, "It's the first time I got dumped in my life."

Sheen and Richards met on the set of the independent film, "Good Advice" in 2000. They were married in 2002 and their first daughter, Sam, was born in 2004. The couple's second daughter, Lola, was born in June. Despite their rocky relationship, Sheen was by Richards' side for the delivery.

Since Lola's birth, the couple have frequently been photographed together, along with their children, and Sheen seems to have remained determined to patch things up. "I made a commitment to this woman that I love, this family that I love and I realized this can be fixed," Sheen said in September. Apparently, he was right.

'Newlyweds' Nick & Jess Split Officially

899645.jpg

Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey

After months of rumors and denials, Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey are officially kaput, per Us Weekly. Us Weekly first reported the couple's split in its October 17 issue; at that time, Lachey's publicist issued a denial of an official separation. The couple jointly announced their separation today in a statement issued to Us Weekly through their publicists.

The joint statement reads: "After three years of marriage, and careful thought and consideration, we have decided to part ways. This is the mutual decision of two people with an enormous amount of respect and admiration for each other. We hope that you respect our privacy during this difficult time."

Just last week, Lachey partied alone with pals in Miami, on November 22, he attended the American Music Awards without his wife, one day after the New York Post reported that a porn star was peddling a seamy story about her night with Lachey (Lachey's attorney has denied any impropriety), according to Us Weekly.

Tellingly, at the AMAs, Simpson's father Joe Simpson told an Us reporter of his daughter's ongoing media scrutiny. "We are Simpsons, we take a lickin' and keep on tickin'," Joe reportled told the magazine.

Nick and Jess wed in Austin, Texas in October, 2002 in front of 250 guests. The couple became international superstars by televising their first years of marriage on MTV's "Newlyweds." During the filming of Jessica's "Dukes of Hazzard" in the fall of 2004 the couple were apart for months as Simpson stayed on set in Lousiana.

Meanwhile, Lachey continued to live in Los Angeles. "We knew when we got married that we both had aspirations in our professional lives," Nick told Us magazine in December 2004. "Some of those dreams are coming true and it means we're not always together."

Stewart and Torriero Call Off Engagement

kim_talan.jpg

'Laguna Beach's' Talan Torriero and Kimberly Stewart

LOS ANGELES, California - Kimberly Stewart and "Laguna Beach" star Talan Torriero say their wedding plans are off. "It was just too soon to enter into a lifelong commitment," their representatives said in a joint statement. "It is better to have a brief engagement than a short marriage. The couple continue to share their time together and remain open to whatever the future may hold."

Torriero's publicist, Jack Ketsoyan, said early Sunday, November 27 that the two were no longer romantically involved. Stewart's representative, Elliot Mintz, said they "remain friends." Mintz said they began dating "a relatively short period of time" ago. "It would be in the category of weeks as opposed to months," Mintz said.

Stewart and Torriero were recently in the news as the backseat passengers of Paris Hilton when she was involved in a minor car accident on November 9. No one was hurt and police said no one was cited after the mishap. Stewart is a close friend of Hilton's and was at one time reported to be a possible replacement for Nicole Richie on the canceled Fox reality show "The Simple Life."

Torriero has said he's attempting to start a music career. Stewart, the 26-year-old daughter of singer Rod Stewart, and Torriero, a 19-year-old star of the MTV reality show, announced their engagement earlier this month. Well, they said it wouldn't last . . . apparently, they were right.

Bertinelli and Rocker Eddie Van Halen Divorce

valerie_eddie_wolfgang.jpg

Eddie Van Halen, Valerie Bertinelli and their son Wolfgang

Valerie Bertinelli and her rock star husband, Eddie Van Halen, are divorcing after 24 years of marriage, Bertinelli's publicist confirmed recently. "Yes, that's true. They have been separated for four years and it's amicable," Bertinelli spokeswoman Heidi Schaeffer told The Associated Press. She said the actress would have no further comment.

A divorce petition that Bertinelli, 45, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court pn Tuesday, December 6 cited irreconcilable differences. The couple wed on April 11, 1981, and have one son, 14-year-old Wolfgang Van Halen. According to the petition, they separated on October 15, 2001.

Bertinelli shot to fame as the sexy 15-year-old daughter of Bonnie Franklin on the hit television show "One Day at a Time," which aired from 1975 to 1984. She rejoined Franklin and Mackenzie Phillips, who played her sister, for a reunion show earlier this year. She was also a regular on television's "Touched by an Angel" from 2001 to 2003.

Van Halen, 50, is one of the most celebrated lead guitarists in rock music. He rose to fame in the late 1970s, along with his brother, drummer Alex Van Halen, vocalist David Lee Roth and bassist Michael Anthony as members of Van Halen. The group was known for wild excess both on and offstage in its early years, and Van Halen, once a heavy smoker, was treated for cancer in 2000 and 2001.

Applegate Soon 'Divorced . . . Without Children'

232526_2_259894.jpg

Jonathan Schaech and Christina Applegate

Looks like Christina Applegate will soon be divorced . . . without children. The actress' husband, Johnathon Schaech, got the ball rolling by filing for divorce Monday, December 5 in Los Angeles Superior Court, citing irreconcilable differences.

The couple's publicists, Ame Van Iden and Chuck James, issued a joint statement confirming that the split was underway. "After four years of marriage, actors Johnathon Schaech and Christina Applegate have filed for divorce," the statement read. "The decision is mutual. We have no further comment at this time."

Schaech, 36, who appeared alongside Tom Hanks in 1996's "That Thing You Do!," traded vows with the erstwhile "Married . . . with Children" star during a small ceremony in Palm Springs on October 20, 2001. The couple dated for four years before taking the matrimonial plunge. "We're best friends," Applegate once said of her beau in happier days. "And that spark is always there. I can't wait to see him, even though I saw him a few hours ago."

jonathanschaech_christinaapplegate.jpg

Jonathan Schaech and Christina Applegate

Since shedding her ditzy alter ego, Kelly Bundy, whom she portrayed from 1987 to 1997, Applegate, 34, has gone on to forge a successful career both on the big screen, and more recently, the stage. After her post-'Married' television series, "Jesse," was canceled in 2000, Applegate's career opportunities skyrocketed.

Applegate has proven her comic mettle with starring roles in films including "The Sweetest Thing," opposite Cameron Diaz and Selma Blair and "Anchorman" with Will Ferrell. She also earned the Emmy for Best Guest Actress in a Comedy in 2003 for her turn as Jennifer Aniston's wacky sister on "Friends" in the episode "The One Where Rachel's Sister Babysits."

Over the past several months, Applegate has shown she's good for more than just a laugh with her leading role in the Broadway musical "Sweet Charity," which required her to sing and dance, and even garnered her a Tony nomination for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical. This was no small feat due to a broken foot while on stage during the rehearsal process.

sweet_charity.jpg

Christina Applegate in 'Sweet Charity'

As Applegate's Broadway run winds down, Britney Spears was rumored to be in consideration to take her place as Charity Hope Valentine, a dance hall hostess on a seemingly hopeless quest for love and self-improvement. However, the pop queen and new mom has since reportedly passed on the offer.

Meanwhile, Schaech, who starred alongside Applegate in the television adaptation of "Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas" in March, is next slated to appear in the action film "Road House 2: Last Call." The project is currently in preproduction, per IMDb.com, and is expected to be released sometime next year.

In preparation for his upcoming courtroom drama, Schaech has reportedly hired high-powered divorce attorney Laura Wasser to represent him, according to TMZ.com. Insiders report a jealous Schaech became suspicious of his wife's behavior and made a surprise appearance backstage at Applegate's theatre to quiz her fellow thespians.

Eminem's Reconciliation Rap

Kim_Eminem.jpg

Eminem and Kimberly Mathers

Rap superstar Eminem told a radio show on Tuesday, December 6 that he is back together with his ex-wife and may remarry. Eminem went through an ugly divorce and custody battle over his young daughter with Kimberly Mathers. They married in 1999, and their divorce was finalized in 2001.

"We have reconciled and are probably going to remarry," Eminem told Detroit radio station WKQI-FM's "Mojo in the Morning" show. During the interview, he referred to Kimberly Mathers, 30, as "my wife Kim."

Eminem's label Interscope Records said the interview was the only one that Eminem had planned for now. The rapper's greatest-hits album titled "Curtain Call" was released Tuesday, December 6. Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers III, also discussed his stay earlier this year at a hospital to undergo treatment for sleep medication dependency.

Word of Eminem's hospitalization came in August after he canceled his European tour. "When I went into rehab, I kind of went into it . . . with the notion of 'I'm gonna get clean, I'm gonna get off this stuff before it gets too out of hand,'" he said. In July, Eminem denied an impending retirement but hinted at taking a breather.

On Tuesday, December 6, the 33-year-old, who lives in suburban Detroit, spoke more about his uncertain future. "I'm at a point in my life right now where I feel like I don't know where my career is going," he said. "This is the reason that we called it 'Curtain Call,' because this could be the final thing. We don't know."

Mike Myers Goes Solo

myers_robin.jpg

Mike Myers and Robin Ruzan

"Austin Powers" star Mike Myers and his wife, Robin Ruzan, are ending their 12-year marriage, a spokeswoman said Friday, December 23. The 42-year-old actor-comedian and Ruzan, a writer and actress, were married in May 1993. They have no children.

"They remain committed and caring friends," publicist Ina Treciokas said in a statement. Sadly, one of Myers' famous characters is based on his soon-to-be-ex mother-in-law. Ruzan's mother was the primary basis for Myers' 'Cawfee Tawk' hostess, Linda Richman.

Myers, an alum of NBC's "Saturday Night Live," starred in the "Austin Powers" and "Wayne's World" films, 2003's "Dr. Seuss' The Cat in the Hat" and voiced the giant green ogre in the "Shrek" movies.

Mike Myers Loses His 'Schwing'

myers_ruzan240x180.jpg

Mike Myers and Robin Ruzan

For Mike Myers, it could be the ultimate verklempt moment: He's getting divorced. Please talk among yourselves for a minute. Okay? Okay.

Now for the details: The Myers split from wife Robin Ruzan was announced Friday, December 23, by his publicist. No reason was given, just the promise, as expressed by rep Ina Treciokas in a statement, that the pair "remain committed and caring friends."

Myers, 42, and Ruzan, about 41, per IMDb.com, wed in 1993, one year before the comic left "Saturday Night Live" and moved onto movie fame in the "Austin Powers" and "Shrek" franchises.

Ruzan, A writer and occasional actress, is best known as the daughter of Linda Richman, who as played by Myers in drag on 'SNL,' frequently became verklempt (i.e., choked up) while hosting "Coffee Talk."

The Myers-Ruzan union was a low-profile one, attracting scant attention from the tabloids. In 2004, the New York Daily News, however, did note "whispers that their marriage [was] faltering."

Myers and Ruzan met at a Chicago Blackhawks-Toronto Maple Leafs hockey game in 1987. At the time, he was a Canadian-born "Second City" performer. She was a Windy City resident--and errant-puck victim.

mike_robin.jpg

Robin Ruzan and Mike Myers

Sometime after the game, Myers informed the Toronto "Second City" troupe that he wanted to move to Chicago. "'Why do you want to work [there]? You're doing so well in Toronto,'" Joyce Sloane, "Second City" producer emeritus, told Myers, she once recounted for CNN. "He said because I'm desperately in love."

Myers joined 'SNL' in 1989, becoming a household name with recurring skits such as "Coffee Talk," "Sprockets," and "Wayne's World." The skit, "Coffee Talk," got so big that the real Linda Richman parlayed her name into a book deal. "Wayne's World" got so big that Myers milked two movies out of the heavy metal-loving Wayne Campbell.

In the first "Wayne's World," Myers' alter ego offers an observation on the notion of wedded bliss. "Garth," the philosophical Wayne shared his wisdom, "marriage is punishment for shoplifting in some countries."

I'm rarely surprised either and this one threw me for a loop. If my computer ever decides to cooperate, wait until you see the pictures I'm going to post with the story. They all are lovey dovey.

Every time I ever saw an interview with Mike Myers, his wife was nearby and he always acknowledged her. Not just introduce her but give her the credit for being his muse. He used to say he would listen for her laughter in an audience to gauge how he was doing on stage. This one does perplex me.

C'mong Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, hang in there! Yeah, for couples like Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward, Dennis and Joanie Franz, George and Ann Lopez, Jeff and Kathleen Treado-Daniels (who were high school sweethearts!).

Swank and Lowe Separate

hilary_swank_maz1.jpg

Chad Lowe and Hilary Swank

Next time she wins an Oscar, Hilary Swank has one less person to remember to thank. "The Million Dollar Baby" star and her husband, Chad Lowe, released a statement through Swank's manager Monday, January 9, announcing their decision to separate after eight years of marriage.

"Hilary and Chad have decided to separate but they are hopeful they'll be able to get through this tough time," the statement read. The twosome wed in 1997, after meeting at a Hollywood party in 1992. It was the first marriage for both.

After they tied the knot, Swank went on to win two Best Actress Oscars, for 1999's "Boys Don't Cry" and 2004's "Million Dollar Baby." During her tearful acceptance speech for "Boys Don't Cry," she famously forgot to thank Lowe, who seemed to take the error in stride. On the second time around, she remembered.

amc-plays-charades-with-chad-lowe-hilary

Swank is the third youngest actress to win two Academy Awards (behind Luise Rainer and Jodie Foster) and is one of only five actresses who can boast a perfect Oscar track record: two nominations, two wins. (Vivien Leigh, Helen Hayes, Sally Field and Rainer are the others.)

She next stars opposite Scarlett Johansson and Josh Hartnett in the thriller, "The Black Dahlia," Brian De Palma's adaptation of James Ellroy's novel.

In contrast to his wife's blockbuster successes, Lowe has worked on less critically acclaimed fare over the years, such as 2000's made-for-TV movie, "Take Me Home: The John Denver Story," in which he played the titular character. He does have a 1993 Emmy Award for his supporting role in ABC's "Life Goes On" series.

One role he seemed to have mastered was that of proud and supportive partner, whether it entailed smiling his way through the aforementioned Oscar acceptance diss, or offering up soundbite after soundbite about his admiration for his wife's talent.

After last year's Academy Awards, Lowe told People magazine he had advised Swank "to breathe it in and enjoy the moment. It is like when you get married: You wish it could last all night." Unfortunately, this marriage's moment seems to have run its course.

Nicole Kidman Ends Engagement To Keith Urban?

01/23/2006 2:00 PM, Yahoo! Music

LAUNCH Radio Networks

Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman's widely speculated romance has reportedly taken a turn for the worse. According to Britain's The Mail, Kidman recently broke off her engagement to the Australian country star, citing doubts that he had really changed his ways from his years of "womanizing" and addiction.

A friend of the actress told the publication, "Everything seemed to be going fine, but then she heard stories that Keith had not totally turned his back on his wild ways. Nicole told Keith she needed space to think and had to break off their engagement."

Up until this point, Kidman has been wearing a 3.5-carat engagement ring reportedly given to her by Urban.

The friend added, "The truth is, a lot of her friends were worried about him from the start because of his reputation as a womanizer and no one wants to see her hurt again. She feels Keith isn't ready to settle down. Keith's devastated but determined to win her back."

The Mail also spoke with Urban's ex-fiancee, Laura Sigler, who said she was not surprised to hear about the break up. She said, "I knew it wouldn't last. Keith is charming and very charismatic, but not reliable. He had numerous flings while we were together. . . I'm not sure Keith will ever be ready to settle down. He talks about wanting a family, but there is a dark side to him. He was a drunk and a drug user. He has an addict's personality and always wants more. I'm not sure any one woman can make him happy."

Awwwwwww I may cry........guess Nic is used to gay men!

'Divorce, 90210' Moves Out

Two "Melrose Place" alums are experiencing some modern day drama of their own. Josie Bissett and Rob Estes have have announced plans to divorce, ending their marriage of more than 13 years. Estes, 42, said that he moved out of the couple's Seattle home, where they have lived since the late '90s, nearly seven months ago at her behest.

The actor also said that it was his wife, 35, who requested the divorce and that he didn't want it. The divorce is not yet final. Estes made his remarks during an appearance at the Television Critics Association meeting earlier this week. There was no immediate comment from Bissett's representative.

Bissett and Estes met in 1991 during a casting call for a TV movie and married May 1, 1992. The same year, Bissett joined the original cast of "Melrose Place," a spinoff of "Beverly Hills, 90210" featuring the trials and tribulations of bed-hopping twentysomethings in a Hollywood apartment complex.

Bissett starred as Jane Andrews Mancini, long suffering wife to Dr. Michael Mancini, portrayed by Thomas Calabro. In 1996, Estes also joined the ensemble. When Bissett became pregnant later that year, she temporarily left the show.

Bissett returned in 1998 after suffering a miscarriage and remained with "Melrose Place" through its series finale in 1999. Estes and Bissett welcomed their first child, son Mason True, on July 21, 1999. Their second child, daughter Maya Rose, was born April 14, 2002.

After Fox shuttered "Melrose Place," Bissett and Estes kept a relatively low profile, relocating to Bissett's hometown of Seattle. But they recently costarred in the ABC Family original movie, "I Do, They Don't," which aired on the family-friendly cable network last March.

Estes just finished filming the big-screen romantic comedy, "How to Go Out On a Date in Queens," alongside Jason Alexander and Kimberly Williams. He has also been busy on the small screen.

He costarred with Kristin Davis in ABC's "Desperate Housewives"-esque pilot, "Soccer Moms," which the network declined to pick up, but then signed on to the ABC midseason replacement crime drama, "The Evidence," with Orlando Jones, which will debut later this season.

Sambora Goes On Solo Tour

sambora_locklear_cute.jpg

Richie Sambora and Heather Locklear

In November, Heather Locklear and Richie Sambora were "together." In December, the actress and the Bon Jovi guitarist were "happily married." But now it's February--and they're divorcing. Locklear, 44, did the filing deed on Thursday, February 2, in Los Angeles, citing irreconcilable differences and asking that the celebrity couple's prenuptial agreement be enforced.

"This is a private matter, and there will be no further comment at this time," Locklear publicist CeCe York said in a statement. The release had Locklear and Sambora's marriage as lasting 10 years, but it actually passed the 11-year mark last December, around the same time the couple shushed whispers of their imminent demise.

"The real story is that there is no story," Locklear and Sambora said at the time in a statement to the New York Daily News. "The truth is that after 11 years together, we are still happily married. Boring but true."

locklear_sambora.jpg

Earlier, in November, a Locklear rep told E! Online columnist Ted Casablanca that the couple was very much "together." A Casablanca source had insisted the couple was very much apart.

Locklear and Sambora, 47, wed in 1994 in Paris. It was her second marriage; his first. The couple have an eight-year-old daughter, Ava. In the divorce filing, Locklear requests joint custody, but also actual physical custody, of her and Sambora's child.

In November, Casablanca quoted a Sambora source as saying the rock star was "spending a lot of time in New Jersey." Per the rumor mill, the couple grew apart in 2004 while Locklear worked on the short-lived NBC series "LAX," Casablanca reported.

In the Daily News in December, reputed Sambora insiders unloaded on Locklear, saying the former "Melrose Place" vixen needed "24-hour-a-day [butt]-kissing," rejected her husband's wishes for a second child and annoyed his Bon Jovi bandmates. "If Richie divorced her," an unnamed source told the newspaper, "nobody would be heartbroken."

By Thursday afternoon, Us Weekly was on filing watch at the downtown L.A. courthouse, blaring in an email that "several sources close to the couple" had confirmed the beginning of the end was nigh. Locklear previously tried marriage to a rock 'n' roller from 1985 to '92 with Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee, 43--an amped-up, "Spinal Tap 11" compared to the low-key Sambora.

A TV institution thanks to starring roles on "Dynasty," "T.J. Hooker," "Spin City" as well as "Melrose Place," Locklear most recently appeared on ABC's "Boston Legal" in October. Bon Jovi, the sturdy, hook-handy rock group of "Livin' on a Prayer" and "Wanted Dead or Alive" fame, is currently on tour. The band is scheduled to play Thursday night in Washington, D.C.

Armstrong 'Crows' Couple Split

Lance_Armstrong_og__206524c.jpg

Sheryl Crow and Lance Armstrong

In another shocking celebrity breakup, Lance Arnmstrong and Sheryl Crow have split, according to People magazine. The seven-time Tour de France bicycling champion and the rock star musician got engaged in September 2005, when Armstrong proposed to Crow in Sun Valley, Idaho, not long after he retired from the pro circuit in July. He and Crow officially became an item back in early 2004.

"After much thought and consideration we have made a very tough decision to split up. We both have a deep love and respect for each other and we ask that everyone respect our privacy during this very difficult time," a joint statement released to People through Armstrong's spokesman read.

Armstrong, 33, has a son and two twin daughters from a previous marriage. Grammy winner Crow, 42, has previously been linked to Eric Clapton, Owen Wilson and Kid Rock.

The couple spoke to Barbara Walters last November, when Armstrong was named one of Walters' "Most Fascinating People." While showing off her six-carat diamond engagement ring, the two talked about what drew them together. "She's hot," Lance said. "I saw that!"

But Sheryl said she just knew he was the one. "I think sometimes you meet people and they just strike such a familiar chord with you," she said. "I just thought I had known him forever." Lance also spoke about his love for Crow in August 2005, saying, "We plan on having a long future together."

Lance Armstrong and Sheryl Crow have split, the couple announced in a joint statement Friday, February 3. The seven-time Tour de France champion and the rock star announced their engagement in September. It would have been her first marriage and his second. He has three children from a previous marriage.

"After much thought and consideration we have made a very tough decision to split up. We both have a deep love and respect for each other and we ask that everyone respect our privacy during this very difficult time," the statement said.

Armstrong, 34, recovered from testicular cancer that had spread to his lungs and brain to become the dominant athlete in one of the world's most grueling sporting events. His seven consecutive Tour de France titles from 1999 to 2005 are a race record. He retired after winning his last race with Crow rooting him on.

Armstrong and the 43-year-old Crow met in October 2003 and began dating shortly after. Crow called Armstrong the inspiration for her last album, "Wildflower," which was released in September. She performed a free concert soon after in Austin, Armstrong's adopted hometown, to coincide with the ninth anniversary of Armstrong's diagnosis with testicular cancer.

"We've always had parties or celebrations on that day," Armstrong said in late September. "It was just a way to do something for a city that has done a lot of things for me. We're basically saying thank you for all the support."

Crow talked about being part of a celebrity couple in an interview with The Associated Press in November, saying she wasn't crazy about all the attention that goes with it. She said celebrity magazines are more interested in seeing a couple break up than reporting on them being happy together.

"When we were rumored to have split, and when our publicists called these magazines to say we haven't split, the magazines were all so disappointed because that's really what's selling, rooting for a couple and then they split," she said.

Crow continued, "That's what sells the magazines. Why can't we just report things the way they are or see things for the good in them? . . . It's an insidious energy." Armstrong was living with Crow on a ranch in the Austin area.

Celebs Sugarcoat Breakups With 'Love'

By ERIN CARLSON, Associated Press Writer

NEW YORK - Love, as any and all can attest, is often a mystery. Breaking up, on the other hand, seems quite formulaic.

Certainly on the celebrity circuit. "Love," "respect," "consideration," "admiration" and a dollop of "privacy" are the primary ingredients of today's famous fall-outs. When glamorous couples call it quits, they typically do so publicly, through pithy statements to the media. These days, their declarations all seem to follow a similar structure.

Last week, former fiancees Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong and rocker Sheryl Crow announced their breakup "after much thought and consideration." "We both have a deep love and respect for each other and we ask that everyone respect our privacy during this very difficult time," they said in a joint statement, released Feb. 3. Armstrong and Crow took a page from Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston, who said their decision to separate early last year was "the result of much thoughtful consideration."

"We happily remain committed and caring friends with great love and admiration for one another," said Pitt and Aniston in a joint statement in January 2005. "We ask in advance for your kindness and sensitivity in the coming months." Months later, Pitt was photographed frolicking on an African beach with girlfriend Angelina Jolie

'End of the Affair' for Fiennes

francesca_ralph.jpg

Ralph Fiennes and Francesca Annis

It's not such a Fiennes day for Ralph. Ralph Fiennes and his girlfriend of nearly 11 years, British actress Francesca Annis, announced their separation on Tuesday, February 7, just two days after reports surfaced that "The Constant Gardener" was not a constant companion and has carried on a two-year affair with a Romanian singer.

"Ms. Annis confirms today that she and Ralph Fiennes are to separate," Annis' London-based law firm, Schillings, said in a statement. According to Britain's Mail on Sunday tabloid, Fiennes, 43, admitted to having an ongoing fling with Romanian singer Cornelia Crisan, 31, after meeting at a party nearly two years ago.

"He was a cheat," Crisan told the paper. "He used me to be there always for him, whether he needed someone to talk to or wanted a cuddle or to make love. As time went on, I started to see more clearly, to realize that I didn't want him at all," she said.

For his part, the two-time Academy Award nominee denies ever having been unfaithful to Annis, 62. "It has been a difficult time for the both of them, particularly as they have not even seen each other since the revelations broke," an unnamed source close to the couple is quoted as saying in the Daily Mail.

"Seeing all their private details laid out in all the newspapers has made them both think about their future together. Things have not been good for quite a while." Per Schillings, the veteran stage actress has already begun legal action against the newspaper for defamation and invasion of privacy over a story claiming she had forgiven Fiennes for his alleged affair.

The camera-ready couple first met in 1995 while costarring in a stage production of "Hamlet," with the actor in the title role and the actress portraying his mother. Both ended relationships in order to be together: Fiennes to his wife of 12 years, "ER" actress Alex Kingston and Annis to her photographer husband, Patrick Wiseman, with whom she had three children.

Fiennes, who appeared onstage in Dublin Tuesday for the opening night of his play, "The Faith Healer," had no comment on the split. The actor will make his way back to London next week for the British Academy Film Awards. He's nominated for Best Actor for his work in "The Constant Gardener," which nabbed a leading 10 nominations.

Matt LeBlanc's Marriage Cancelled

matt_melissa.jpg

Melissa McKnight and Matt LeBlanc

As it turns out, "Joey" may be the least of Matt LeBlanc's worries. The sitcom star and his wife announced the end of their nearly three-year marriage Thursday.

The news comes just months after the couple's two-year-old daughter was said to be undergoing tests for a neurological disorder, and just weeks after LeBlanc's disappointing "Friends" spinoff, "Joey," was put on hiatus for the second time this season.

Divorce papers were filed in Los Angeles, with LeBlanc doing the filing, according to the National Enquirer, which was first out with word of the split. "The dissolution is amicable," an NBC spokesman said in a statement on behalf of LeBlanc and wife Melissa. "They remain devoted parents and friends."

LeBlanc, 38, and the former Melissa McKnight, in her late 30s or early 40s, wed in May 2003 in Hawaii. The ceremony was attended by all of LeBlanc's female Friends costars: Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox Arquette and Lisa Kudrow.

The couple has one daughter, Marina, 2. Additionally, Melissa LeBlanc has two children from a previous marriage. In January, People reported that Marina had been suffering seizures and having difficulty walking. The New York Daily News suggested the child was suffering from cortical dysplasia, defined by Medcyclopaedia.com as an abnormality of the brain's cerebral cortex.

Just two years ago, LeBlanc called himself "the luckiest guy in the world." "I have two beautiful stepkids, as well as my new daughter, Marina," the actor told Calgary Sun at the time. "I'm so great that I keep waiting for the roof to fall in." Thanks to Joey, LeBlanc didn't have to wait long.

'Joey'

After a top-rated, 10-year run on "Friends," LeBlanc was handed the keys to his own sitcom in 2004. "Joey" moved his "Friends" alter ego, struggling actor Joey Tribiani, from New York to Los Angeles. The comedy got off to a decent start with critics and audiences. It closed out its first season averaging 10.2 million viewers, about half of what "Friends" had delivered in its final season.

When "Joey" returned last fall, Joey Tribiani became more successful; the show less so. NBC benched the comedy after the November sweeps. Earlier this month, the network moved it to Tuesday--briefly. After one dismal showing--a fifth-place finish behind a Spanish-language novella--"Joey" got yanked from the schedule again. While it hasn't been formally canceled, it isn't expected to be asked back for the fall, either.

In addition to his ratings struggles, LeBlanc found himself in a public relations bind last summer when The Enquirer got him to go on the record about a night out at a strip club. LeBlanc and his wife "split up" in January, The Enquirer reported Thursday. The couple had been together for years prior to their marriage. They first announced their engagement back in 1998.

Where to start.........?

Well, first of all, I can't believe I actually sat here and read something that was sourced to the National Enquirer. I tried to stop reading, really I did.

Then I read the title to the thread again...........Breaking Up is So Hard to Do, what a joke, no it isn't not for these people, they change partners like most people change cars, more often even. Go to a battered womans shelter or a family court sometime, see how hard breaking up is.

And whats with the new tag line all the publicists seem to be using, did they all just go to a nice little retreat and come up with the breakup line for 2006. "We will remain loving parents to our children" Well duh! Just keep buying those designer baby duds and they'll know you still love them.

And all of this additional info that has nothing to do with their breakup, just archive it and in 20-30 years you have the obit already.

These poor celebs, life is tough for them. <mournful sigh>
