the article fails to mention that eyecandy Jeff brought a lot of female viewers, it wasnt just Chima's antics.

IT only took nine years -- but "Big Brother" is finally a hit.

Just as the rest of the world grows tired of the social-experiment TV series -- Britain canceled the show last week after 11 seasons -- an American audience is discovering the pleasure of watching a group of young people locked away from the outside world for 10 weeks.

"BB" -- now in its 11th season -- has been the surprise hit of the summer, ranking No. 2 among summer shows, after "America's Got Talent," and getting bigger every week as the show approaches its finale next Tuesday.

THEN THERE WERE FOUR: "Big Brother" finalists are Natalie, Kevin, Jordan and Michele.

Tonight, the competition begins its final week with a live elimination -- three girls and one guy are left -- and all the eye-watering drama that entails.

"Big Brother" has not changed radically since its first few years. So it is hard to say why this season people -- especially those in their late 20s and early 30s, the ratings suggest -- have been so drawn to the show.

There has been some unusual drama -- topped by the middle-of-the-night ejection of an especially ornery contestant, Chima. Her last straw was disdainfully tossing her microphone into the hot tub -- a gesture for someone who has had it with reality TV that could not be beat.

Turns out it is one thing to behave badly, as Chima apparently did. ("Big Brother" ejected a house guest only once before, a few years back, for threatening another player with a very unthreatening knife.)

But it's unforgivable to act badly outside the range of microphones, where it can't be picked up and broadcast.

And there is one houseguest, Natalie, who has been lying about her age -- she says she's 18 but is listed as 24 in her bio -- so that competitors will underestimate her abilities. (So far, it's worked. She's in the final four.)

Michele is a PhD in neuroscience who has short-term memory problems (not kidding). She's the most likely candidate to be sent home tonight because of her reluctance to make deals with fellow contestants.

The other two in the final four are Jordan -- a pretty, blonde waitress from North Carolina who fell for another contestant, Jeff (what happens between them after the show is over has been a big subplot this year) -- and Kevin, a scheming graphic artist who is the lone guy to survive 66 days of isolation so far this season.

Incidentally, the finalists in the British version of "Big Brother" didn't learn until Sunday night -- when the final winner was chosen and everyone came out of the house -- that the show had been canceled.

Big Brother 11: Down With The Devil

September 8, 2009 08:26:11 by Ryan Haidet

Only one week before the hit season of Big Brother 11 comes to an end, and things are getting good inside the house. After her nominations, Natalie was working her strategy by telling Jordan that it was Michele who really needed to go home this week. But Jordan started to feel like she was being lied to since Natalie had vowed to target Kevin this week. But that

THIS JUST IN... From CBS Entertainment... CBS ORDERS MORE "BIG BROTHER"

Broadcast Hit/Internet Sensation To Return for 12th Edition in Summer 2010

09.09.2009

Less than a week before the two-hour finale of "Big Brother 11," CBS is already making plans for Big Brother 12. The network announced today it has ordered another edition of the hit reality series for broadcast in the summer 2010.

The three-times-a-week series has once again turned into a summer sensation, growing its audience both on-air and online for the CBS Television Network and CBS Interactive platforms.

BIG BROTHER 11 is one of only a handful of programs to post growth in its 10th season. Compared to last summer, BIG BROTHER 11 is up +7% in viewers (7.08m from 6.60m), +4% in adults 18-49 (2.5/08 from 2.4/07) and +5% in adults 18-34 (2.0/07 from 1.9/06). Each of the three weekly broadcasts are also posting summer-to-summer growth.

Online, BIG BROTHER 11 is the Number One show on CBS.com and across the CBS Audience Network in all key metrics with 25% more unique users and 94% more video streams than last summer. CBS.com also logged a record 11.6 million votes when Jeff was awarded the "Coup d'

Whoa, 'Brother': Exclusive Details on the Final Eviction...and a Contest!

By Josef Adalian

Published: September 08, 2009

There's just one week to go before "Big Brother" ends one of its most successful seasons ever-- and, not surprisingly, emotions among fans are intense right now.

For many, the dominant feeling is one of disappointment: Only one member of Team Jeff-- aka the good guys-- remains. Michelle was evicted tonight, leaving Jordan all by herself to carry the banner for the team viewers seemed to love the most.

Meanwhile, one despised player (Natalie) and one annoying player (Kevin) are still in contention for the $500,000, and odds are one of them will win it.

"'Big Brother' is like watching a sporting event," exec producer Allison Grodner told TV MoJoe in our weekly post-eviction chat. "You go all season with your favorite team, and sometimes they make it. And sometimes they don't. It's very real."

The fact that there's a very real chance many viewers will be bummed by the outcome of the game only serves to highlight just how little "Brother" producers are able to stage manage the game.

"If the game were fixed, it's very possible America's favorites might very well be in it," Grodner laughs.

One thing Grodner won't comment on: Insider reports that producers have decided to shake up the structure of the final days of the game.

According to a person with knowledge of the situation, next Tuesday's finale will begin with all three current members of the house still in the game. The final two won't be determined until Tuesday's live show, just moments before the jury decides the ultimate winner of the show.

That would mean the final evictee won't have much sway over the jury. And that all three houseguests will be staying with each other longer than they expected.

It also means Tuesday's finale promises to be must-see for fans, since it'll be the only way to find out who wins the final HOH-- and if Jordan will stay alive.

Part two of the final HOH competition will be seen on Thursday's show. Sunday's episode is expected to be a best of and "moments you didn't see" hour.

Grodner's only response when asked about the finale shakeup: "Tune in Thursday," she said.

Now, on with the Q&A:

So isn't Jeff to blame for the situation we're in now, with Natalie and Kevin in control?

The team was rolling along. They had a final four (agreement). You could argue about whether Russell would have honored it. But his taking out Russell when he did... that really turned things to the other side.

It wasn't just pure paranoia on Jeff's part. But Kevin and Natalie...are playing the strategic social part of this, and the lying and deviousness part of this, to their advantage. Jeff bought it hook, line and sinker.

If Kevin or Natalie win the final HOH, who will they take with them?

I think that Natalie says she's 100 percent in Kevin's court. She feels confident she can beat any one of these people and has friends in the jury house. That remains to be seen, especially given what some of the people in jury have seen lately.

On the other hand, Kevin... is really looking out for how he can win this half-million dollars. He's been quite consistent in the diary room saying he wants to cut her...at the last minute. He thinks his best chance of winning is sitting next to Jordan.

I think this is going to be a close vote no matter what.

Natalie isn't liked by many fans. What has she done well in this game?

She played the chess game well. She didn't win competitions. She's lied a lot. But she manipulated like a lot of the best of them. But she doesn't have the charisma of the rest of them.

She's also had Kevin under her thumb since Jessie left. Before that, she was his lapdog. But after that, she's really played a pretty good poker game with these people.

This is the first year for Pandora's Box. How did it work out?

It's been interesting. It's a twist I've wanted to try for a while. I think it's played into some of the drama here. I mean, who knew Natalie would go to such an extent to lie?

That lie...really proved to Kevin that Natalie is playing for her self and playing a deceptive game. He lost all trust (because of Pandora's).

I've also always found it fascinating to test people on greed vs. the best interests of the rest of the house.

So what was the smartest move of the season?

I think getting Ronnie out when they did. He's someone who could have gone far, who could have gone the distance.

And the Marcellas award for dumbest move?

Two things. Jeff trusting Kevin and Natalie. Everyone here screamed collectively, "How could you?" After they spent the whole season lying to them-- I was shocked.

And the move by Kevin tonight to evict Michelle could be Kevin's downfall. I think Michelle was Kevin's best chance (of getting to the finale). If Jordan wins, I think she'll listen to Natalie.

OK, I have to ask: Some of the annoying characters who entered the house last week during Pandora's Box seemed familiar.

Like they'd been in the house in past seasons?

Maybe.

Can you tell us who?

Why don't we see if fans can figure it out. We'll have a contest. A "Big Brother" T-shirt to whoever comes up with which annoyance was previously in the house and what season they last appeared.

Big Brother 11: Rolling Toward Victory

September 10, 2009 06:56:47 by Ryan Haidet

Right where we left off on Tuesday night, the final three Big Brother contestants were competing in the first part of the last Head Of Household competition. On top of a giant elevated rolling log, the houseguests walked around in the man-made rain while holding onto a key high above their heads. But rain wasn

Big Brother 11 Episode Recap: Sept. 10, 2009

Sep 11, 2009 11:37 AM ET by Adam Bryant

Rule No. 1 of Big Brother: Expect the unexpected. That's just what happened Thursday when the remaining houseguests learned that all three of them would be in the house until finale night. Rather than showing the usual final eviction Thursday, the hour only concluded Phase 1 of the head of household competition and showed Phase 2 live. Plus, a few special guests stopped by to chat about this season, and Jeff makes his entrance in the jury house. So, who will still be in contention for HOH when the finale rolls around? Let's find out.

We left Kevin, Natalie and Jordan spinning on the log Tuesday, and that's where we pick up. Despite suffering through rain, snow and wind-blown leaves, all of the houseguests manage to stay on the log for three hours. (Though Natalie had a very near wipeout.) With everyone beginning to tire, especially Jordan, both Kevin and Natalie pounce. Natalie tries to make Jordan think about Michele being alone with Jeff in the house (Jordan says, I know Jeff is only thinking about me!) and Kevin tells her that by shivering, she will warm herself up. Aside: I hate the smirk on Natalie's face. She thinks she's so smart, and it just makes me angry.

Jordan, maybe distracted by the others or maybe not, is caught off-guard when the log begins to roll again. She can't keep her balance and falls off. Kevin then tells Natalie to drop, reminding her that she said days earlier she would let Kevin win the endurance competition because she is better equipped to take Jordan out in the "mental" portion of the competition. Natalie agrees, but wants to make sure Kevin will take her to the end, reminding him that if she doesn't trust him, she can hang there all night to outlast him. Kevin swears on everything he can, and Natalie finally drops. (Too bad Kevin tells us in the diary room that he will betray Natalie as soon as he can because he can't get votes over her in the end. Woo hoo!)

But is that true? It seems like others in the jury house have slightly turned against Natalie because of her lies. Jeff's entrance shocks the jury house, but both Russell and Jessie are happy to see that he didn't run away with the game. It's hilarious how skewed Jeff's view of the game is now that he's gone. He's in for quite a surprise when Michele comes in next, and he finds out that Kevin is ruling the house.

Former Big Brother champs Evel Dick and Mike Boogie join former houseguests Janelle and Danielle with a little chat with Julie. Everyone agrees that Chima is a moron for removing herself from the game when she still had some power. They also agree that Jeff using the coup d'etat, was one of the summer's best moves, as was Kevin and Nat lying to Jeff to get him to backdoor Russell. It was good to see them back, but this was really a pointless segment. But they all think Kevin is the winner, no matter who he takes to the finale.

Phase 2 of the HOH competition pits Jordan and Natalie against each other in a mental and physical challenge. They have to remember the order of all the HOHs, and roll balls up a ramp and into holes to lock in their answers. Some of the balls go in the wrong holes, so adjustments must be made. Ultimately, the person with the most right at the end of two minutes wins. Natalie gets flustered when her memory fails, and then an incorrect ball in week 5 throws off her order completely. She only gets five right. Jordan, however, is on a roll, and even though one ball goes in the wrong hole, she compensates for that, and finishes the puzzle getting nine right. So, Jordan wins!

Few things this season have given me the pleasure that seeing Natalie's face after getting beaten by Jordan did. After all, she just knew it would be impossible for Jordan to beat her. Natalie even made excuses about how the physical aspect was something she wasn't expecting. (Weren't you on the athletes clique, Natalie?) Kevin also seemed a little torn up about it, but that could have been him acting to keep Natalie on his side for now.

So here's how I see it. Kevin has said he will most likely take Jordan if he wins. I think, regrettably, that Jordan would take Natalie if she wins, just because Natalie has won less than Kevin. (And at this point, I am not sure that Natalie would get the votes she needs. Jeff and Michele would go for Jordan, and so might Lydia. If the other three went to Natalie, then Jordan could actually win this thing with America's vote

  • 2 weeks later...
BB11 Michele said in a chat tonight that she and her husband aren't together anymore.

Was it Michele that said it? I heard that it was Jessie and Lydia claiming that she and her husband split, in their live chat. Which makes it harder to believe at face value...

EDIT: NM. Apparently she said it herself in this radio interview:

So sad. Hopefully, they can work things out. Cowboy was saying he understood what she was going through--Are he and his wife still together?

I heard he and his wife are getting divorced.
