Easier Than You Think
When you think of a drug addicts, you probably think of people in a dark alley buying their poison from shady characters. The reality is that nearly seven million Americans are abusing prescription drugs. That number may seem high but sadly, it's an accurate statistic!

The seven million Americans who misuse prescription drugs is more than the number who abuse cocaine, heroin, ecstasy and inhalants combined, and they're your friends, neighbors, coaches and kids, who gain access to narcotics from licensed medical professionals.

Robert, 25, was raised in an upscale suburban family and says all he cares about is drugs. His parents say his addiction is destroying their family but admit they have been enabling their son. Can Dr. Phil wake this family up to the gravity of the situation? Then, go undercover inside a clinic and see how easy it is to score these narcotics.

Next, ride along as a young man searches for oxycontin to feed his addiction, and see the harsh reality of this addiction in scenes from the documentary, "The Oxycontin Express." Dr. Phil digs deep into the prescription drug epidemic and tells you what you need to know if you or someone you love is addicted to painkillers.

The Wesson Family Returns
It was called the worst crime in Fresno, California's history: what started as a custody dispute ended with the death of nine children in 2004. Marcus Wesson was convicted of killing seven of his kids and two grandchildren, who were born from an incestuous relationship with one of his daughters.

After his arrest, the sordid stories came out about the incest, abuse and brainwashing that occurred under his guidance. After Dr. Phil's exclusive interview on a previous show with Wesson's wife and three of their children, who provided insight into Jaycee Lee Duggard's kidnapping and alleged brainwashing, Dr. Phil was moved to make sure this family does not slip through the cracks again.

With the addition of two of Wesson's sons, who were beaten and then abandoned in the mountains by their father, Dr. Phil unites this family to begin a journey of healing. Join Dr. Phil in this lesson in compassion, survival and recovery. It just may change your life.

the ellen degeneres show

Monday, October 19
"Heroes" Actress Hayden Panettiere
I've got a fun show for you today! I love Twitter, and today I did another Twitter challenge at UC San Diego. Over a thousand people show up this time! You won't believe what I have them do. They're playing for a big prize this time — tickets to one of my 12 Days of Giveaways shows.

Then, the beautiful Actress Hayden Panettiere is dropping by from her hit series, "Heroes," to chat with me. She ends up stripping right in front of everyone, and you won't guess what she's wearing underneath!

Hayden also volunteered to be dunked for Breast Cancer Awareness Month and I've got a surprise guest to throw the balls. He might just be the worst thrower I've had on the show. And, if you've seen Harry Connick Jr., you know that's saying something!

Then, you know I love reality shows, and one of my favorites is "Dancing with the Stars." That's why I'm excited to have Aaron Carter and Karina Smirnoff here today. He had been doing well, but barely escaped elimination this week, but they'll do a great dance for me today!

Also, 21-year-old music sensation Angel Taylor will be making her television debut on my show! She's been compared to some of the greatest names in music. Her new CD, "Love Travels," just came out — and she'll be singing her song, "Like You Do."

Tuesday, October 20
"Parenthood" Actress Lauren Graham
The other day, one of my producers showed me a video of a kid who may be the youngest hip-hop dancer — he's only 4! He's one of the coolest four-year-olds I've seen . . . Miles Brown will be on the show to chat with me and dance for all of us.

Then, my friend, Actress Lauren Graham, is here. She just announced that she'll be on the new show, "Parenthood." Every time she's here, she's always up to something crazy. She's one of my favorite guests, so I can't wait.

Also, in the last couple of years, OneRepublic went from hardly being known to being one of the most popular bands — you might remember them performing "Apologize" on my show. Now, they've got a new album, "Waking Up." They will be performing their single, "All the Right Moves." It's gonna be huge!

And, with all the hidden camera tricks I've done at Starbucks in the last year, people are starting to figure out what's happening. But I'm not done with my hidden camera fun, so I've just picked a new location. It's gonna be hilarious and who knows . . . the next time you go to your favorite store, you could be on my show!

Wednesday, October 21
"Extra" Host/Actor Mario Lopez
Get ready, ladies! The very hot Mario Lopez will be here today. Every time he's on the show I try and get him to take off his shirt for you. I promise I'll get him to do it eventually — maybe it'll be today! He's the host of "Extra" and will keep me updated on the latest news.

Then, my personal Chef Roberto Martin is coming back to teach us a new recipe. Last time, he taught us Vegan Tacos, which were so delicious. He's an amazing chef and a great guy. You're gonna want to see what he's cooking for us today.

Also, I'm sending Jeannie, my receptionist, somewhere in the country today. Last time I sent her to Miami with the Golddigger Machine and ended up giving her brand new GMC Terrain to a viewer. Now, a GMC dealer in Dallas gave me great deal on a brand new one! I wonder what I should do with it . . . mmmmm.

Thursday, October 22
Actor/Comedian David Spade
Today, I'm going to introduce you to a 10-year-old girl who is already making an impact on the world. Her name is Annabelle Held, and she started a dog treat business — but instead of keeping the profits, she donates them to an animal shelter in her hometown of Marietta, Georgia!

Then, my friend, the hilarious Actor David Spade, is also doing an amazing thing. He's been a big supporter of firefighters here in Los Angeles, especially after the wildfires of about two months ago. To thank them for their hard work, he's inviting hundreds of firefighters to a free comedy show later this month. He'll be here to tell me more about this really cool event.

Also, Actor John C. Reilly will be here for the first time! I can't believe he hasn't been here yet, but today the talented actor will finally chat with me. He's been in some of the best movies, like "Chicago," "Gangs of New York" and "The Hours." Now, he's in the new movie, "Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant" — which I can't wait to hear about.

And, if you haven't heard Mika, you'll want to see him on today's show. He's from London, and after his first album he was compared with Freddie Mercury, Elton John and Prince. He just released his second album, "The Boy Who Knew Too Much." He'll perform his hit, "Blame It on the Girls," for me.

The Bonnie Hunt Show

Monday, October 26
"Motherhood" Actor Anthony Edwards — We all loved Actor Anthony Edwards as Dr. Greene on the long-running medical drama, "ER," now he's playing husband to Uma Thurman in the new film, "Motherhood." He should know a thing or two about parenting — with four kids of his own!

Rapper RZA — This Grammy Award-winning musician and founder of the Wu-Tang Clan has a new book, "Tao of Wu"/"Funny People," explaining Wu-Tang's philosophy and world view. You won't want to miss Bonnie's fascinating interview with this multi-talented fellow.

"The Pioneer Woman" Cook Ree Drummond — When Ree Drummond met and married a hunky cattle rancher, she traded her city life for a move to the middle of the country. All her friends thought she was crazy, but twelve years and four kids later she's shown that a big city girl can make it as a pioneer. She's here to share one of her tasty recipes — which she claims is sure to make any man propose!

Sweethearts Diane Harris and Rodney Day — In the late 1950s, these two were high school sweethearts until a car accident and an overly protective mother separated them. Fifty years later, they found each other again through the Internet. Hear their touching story of love lost and found.

Tuesday, October 27
Actress/Comedienne Sherri Shepherd — This Actress/Comedienne/Talk Show Host can now add "Author" to her diverse list of accomplishments. Her new book, "Permission Slips," looks at letting women know it's okay to follow your dreams, but to also allow room for things to not go completely according to plan. With this new book, her new Lifetime sitcom, "Sherri," her hosting gig on "The View" and her role as a mom, we have to wonder . . . when does this woman ever sleep?!

"Modern Family" Actor Ty Burrell — You may know Ty Burrell from all the villain roles he's played in the past. Now he's becoming known as the hapless dad who tries way too hard to be cool on the hit ABC show, "Modern Family."

"Divorce Sucks" Author Mary Jo Eustace — Divorce isn't easy, and this lady knows first-hand. (She was married to Dean McDermott, who's now married to Tori Spelling.) So what's a girl to do? Author Mary Jo Eustace has many suggestions in her new book, "Divorce Sucks," but the most important one is to have a sense of humor about it all.

"Mail From You Guys" — It's one of our favorite things around here — looking through all the letters you guys send. Today, Bonnie reads some more — and answers them on the air!

Wednesday, October 28
Actress/Author Mackenzie Phillips — Actress Mackenzie Phillips was born to Rock and Roll royalty as the daughter of John Phillips of The Mamas & the Papas. She grew up in front of an audience of TV fans as Julie on the hit sitcom, "One Day at a Time." But behind the glamour and glitz was the dark side of addiction — and a secret she held on to for a lifetime. She exposed the details in her controversial new book, "High on Arrival."

"Dirty Jobs" Host Mike Rowe — He started out at QVC selling products, but little did Mike Rowe know that job would be one of the cushiest he would ever have (especially with the show he's doing now on the Discovery Channel!)

Doggie Adoptions — We just can't get enough of our four-legged friends, and these little rascals all need a good home. Tune-in and maybe you'll open your heart and your home to one of these little guys.

Thursday, October 29
Singer La Toya Jackson — As a member of one of the most famous families in the world, La Toya Jackson has spent her entire life in the spotlight, and with the recent passing of her brother, Michael, this has never been more true. She opens up to Bonnie on the death of Michael, his kids . . . and why she firmly believes his death was not accidental.

The New York native spent his early years in various countries, including the U.S., Venezuela, Argentina and Denmark, and worked a variety of jobs, writing poetry and short stories in his spare time. He also did years of live theater before moving to Los Angeles and movies. An accomplished equestrian, poet, painter, photographer and founder of his own publishing house, the Oscar-nominated star is the epitome of a Renaissance man.

Tuesday, December 1
(Original Air Date: December 1, 2009)

With a style that encompasses rap, R&B, soul and funk, the South Carolina native released her first solo CD in 1999 and has collaborated with the likes of Mary J. Blige and Lenny Kravitz. Wednesday, December 2
(Original Air Date: December 2, 2009)
Tavis talks with "Democracy Now!" Host/Executive Producer Amy Goodman who discusses whether progressives are finding their legs and her new book, "Breaking the Sound Barrier." Actor/Musician Jason Schwartzman, co-star of HBO's "Bored to Death" and one of the voices in the new animated film, "Fantastic Mr. Fox," talks about doing his first animation and the value of finding a mentor early in his career.

Goodman began her broadcasting career as a volunteer at New York's Pacifica station WBAI, ultimately becoming its news director. Co-author of three New York Times best sellers, her new book is "Breaking the Sound Barrier."

Jason Schwartzman
Acting wasn't always Jason Schwartzman's focus. His musical talent initially led him to form a band, Phantom Planet, which he left to pursue the "family business"—dad was a producer; mom is an actress-director and a member of the Coppola family. He made his movie debut in the acclaimed comedy, "Rushmore" and his writing debut with "The Darjeeling Limited." Schwartzman still composes music, including the theme for HBO's "Bored to Death," in which he stars. He also created the band, Coconut Records, that records on his Young Baby Records.

Saturday, December 19
Chris Wragge and Erica Hill will anchor "The Saturday Early Show" from New York. Daniel Sieberg reports from the news desk.
Lonnie Quinn, of our New York affiliate, WCBS-TV, will bring us the weather from New York.

Along with the top news of the day, we will also have the following stories:

"'Early' Coffee" with John Irving
We are excited to share early coffee with award-winning author, John Irving. In addition to winning a National Book Award for "The World According to Garp," he also won an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for "The Cider House Rules." He's the author of 12 books, the most recent titled, "Last Night at Twisted River."

Other titles by Irving include "The Hotel New Hampshire," "A Prayer for Owen Meany" and "A Widow for One Year." Irving grew up in Exeter, New Hampshire which plays prominently in many of his novels. Irving often uses New England as a back drop to many of his stories.

Another popular theme is wrestling — Irving was a wrestler and a coach — and we'll discuss that with him, along with his writing style, his favorite authors and his future writing plans. "The Early Show Saturday Edition" will also explore where Irving sees the literary world heading in the future.

"Healthwatch" — Managing Kids' Holiday Expectations
In our "HealthWatch" Series, "The Early Show Saturday Edition" explores holiday expectations. You want your child's holiday to be exciting and fun, but how much is too much when it comes to gifts? Also, with many parents struggling financially this year, there will be far fewer gifts under the tree.

Parents Magazine's Diane Debrovner joins us to discuss how to manage your kids' wish list, or how to teach them to be understanding if their friends' parents aren't able to provide as much this year.

"Saturday Bargainista" — Re-Gifting Do's and Don't's
Admit it — you've thought about it. That sweater from Aunt Betty that never fit, the kitchen gadget still in the box — is it EVER okay to re-gift? We're going to sort out the do's and don't's of re-gifting with the help of Elizabeth Blake, Senior Style Editor for ALL YOU Magazine

According to our "Saturday Bargainista," apparently it IS okay, as long as you do it the right way! "The Early Show Saturday Edition" and ALL YOU Magazine will help you clear out those unused items, and save a dime! And, it's all just in time for the holidays!

Rockettes for a Day!
"The Early Show Saturday Edition" Correspondents Chris and Erica are heading to Radio City Music Hall to partake in one of the biggest holiday traditions of all time. They're meeting The Rockettes, who will teach them how to perform in the world-famous "Radio City Christmas Spectacular." From the high kicks to the march of the toy soldiers, Chris and Erica will try their hand at dancing on the big stage.

"Pet Planet" — Fido and Holiday Hoopla
Strings of lights, poinsettia plants, tinsel, bowls of chocolate — the holiday hoopla can be exciting, but it can also be a dangerous minefield for your pet. The Christmas tree can be calling out to your kitty to climb and those bits of tinsel can look like a toy to your dog or cat.

In addition, the chocolate and poinsettias are poisonous to our precious four-legged companions. Animal Planet's Andrea Arden will point out all the danger zones for your pets and give us tips on keeping everyone safe and happy throughout this entire holiday season.

"Saturday Buzz" — Celebrity Gossip
The latest dish from the wonderful, wacky world of celebrity gossip!

"Under The Radar"
Think you missed something this week? We'll take a look at some of the more unusual stories that you may have missed this week. Catch all the stories that flew "Under The Radar."

"Saturday Spotlight"
See who the beacon shines on this week in our "Saturday Spotlight."

"Second Cup Cafι" — Bruce Hornsby
In our "Second Cup Cafι," we're pleased to welcome multi-Grammy Award-Winner Bruce Hornsby. Bruce entered the music scene in 1986 and soon rocketed to pop stardom with his Grammy-Award-winning album, "The Way It Is," and went on to become one of America's most versatile musicians.

This time around, the singer/songwriter/pianist isn't sticking to one specific genre. On his new album, "Levitate," Hornsby ventures off into uncharted territory for him: He takes the focus off of his impressive piano solos and places it on his songwriting.

Hornsby couldn't take this creative leap without the help of fellow musicians, including the legendary Eric Clapton, who is featured on the album's guest track. The thirteen-time Grammy nominee won Grammys for Best New Artist in 1987, Best Bluegrass recording in 1989 and Best Pop Instrumental in 1993.

Hornsby's music resume also includes a part-time gig with The Grateful Dead from September 1990 to March 1992, during which he performed for over 100 concerts in America and Europe. He has performed on four 'Dead' albums.

Known as a collaborator in the music biz, it seems as though Hornsby hasn't missed a beat throughout his successful career. Hornsby has played on over 100 records, including albums by Bob Dylan, Don Henley, Bob Seger, Stevie Nicks, Bonnie Raitt, Clint Black, Ricky Skaggs, Randy Scruggs, Willie Nelson and Crosby Stills and Nash.

"Levitate" is a tribute to Hornsby's late nephew, R.S. Hornsby, who often performed with him as a guest guitarist. He was killed in a car accident just six days after recording a memorable solo on "Continents Drift."

Hornsby stopped by "The Early Show Saturday Edition" to perform "In The Low Country" off his new album along with the holiday classic, "O Come All Ye Faithful." Bruce stopped by to entertain the audience of the "The Saturday Early Show" with a performance from his new CD, "Levitate." Don't miss the performance of Bruce Hornsby today in our "Second Cup Cafι!"

"Chef On A Shoestring" — Chef Robert Carter
In our "Chef on a Shoestring" this week, we have a winner!! It's been a long, competitive year for "Chef on a Shoestring" and we're finally going to unveil the big winner of our "How Low Can you Go?" competition. The Chef will be back to cook our Christmas feast, and this time around, we've given the Chef a sizable budget for a special Christmas dinner.

Each week, "The Early Show Saturday Edition" challenged a Star Chef to prepare a three-course meal on a meager budget — usually a paltry $35. We dubbed that Chef our "Chef on a Shoestring." This year, we added a wrinkle we called our "How Low Can You Go?" competition.

In the competition, the "Chef on a Shoestring" Chef, whose meal ingredients' total cost was lowest, would be invited back to prepare our year-end holiday extravaganza. And on the last Saturday before Christmas, the winner was crowned — Robert Carter, Executive Chef and partner at Charleston's Peninsula Grill.

Back in August, he cooked up a low-country brunch, and he topped our leader board from then on. So, Carter got to prep our big, blowout Christmas Feast. This time, we gave him a much bigger chunk of change to work with — $75.

Carter has received widespread acclaim for his sophisticated Southern cuisine, defined by a simple approach that bolsters the essence of each ingredient to create extraordinary flavor. What's on the menu? Check out the Bill of Fare below:

On Chef Robert Carter's Menu:
• Root Vegetable Soup with Crispy Beet Chips
• Sweet Potato Ravioli with Toasted Pecans
• Squash and Wild Mushroom Casserole with Cornflake Topping
• Green Beans with Smoky Bacon and Onions
• Crown Roast of Berkshire Pork with "Hoppin John" Rice Stuffing
• Peach Tea Vodka Cider
• Pecan Caramel Pie

Sunday, October 18
"CBS Sunday Morning" hosted by Charles Osgood

"Sunday Cover Story" — Life Without Lawyers
In our "Sunday Morning Cover Story" for October 18, 2009 . . . Is there too much law in our lives when doctors see every patient as a potential plaintiff and teachers feel they can't maintain order in the classroom without fearing a lawsuit? Or, are we in danger of taking away the rights of everyday people to address wrongs by curtailing their right to sue?

In the nation's capital, where laws are made, a lawyer is spreading a message about the law: we need, he says, a lot less of it. He believes that we need a fundamental shift in the way we approach law to restore the freedom of people to actually do their jobs. In short — he proposes the question: What would life with like without lawyers?

"Sunday Morning Cover Story" Correspondent Jeff Greenfield talks with Philip Howard, a lawyer who objects to the number of laws and thinks there should be fewer of them. During these trying times, we will examine our litigious society in our "Sunday Morning Cover Story."

"Sunday Morning Almanac" ~ October 18
A page from our Sunday Morning's Almanac . . . October 18, 1958 . . . On this date, 51 years ago . . . The first video game, "Tennis for Two," was introduced at Brookhaven National Laboratory. Before the era of electronic ping pong, hungry yellow dots, plumbers, mushrooms and fire-flowers, people waited in line to play video games at roller-skating rinks, arcades and other hangouts.

However, before either arcades or home video games, visitors waited in line at Brookhaven National Laboratory to play "Tennis for Two," an electronic tennis game that is unquestionably a forerunner of the modern video game. "Tennis for Two" was first introduced on October 18, 1958, at one of the Lab's Annual Visitors' Days.

Two people played the electronic tennis game with separate controllers that connected to an analog computer and used an oscilloscope for a screen. The game's creator, William Higinbotham, was a nuclear physicist who had worked on the Manhattan Project and lobbied for nuclear nonproliferation as the first chair of the Federation of American Scientists.

Higinbotham wished to be known for his efforts to slow the nuclear arms race. Little did he know the game he created in 1958 would lead to "Pong," "Pac-Man," "Mario," new video game systems and new video games, magazines and Congressional debates. He might have guessed that it would lead to fun on this historic day in our [i]"Sunday Morning Almanac."

"Sunday Art" — Vanished
"Sunday Morning' Correspondent Mark Phillips speaks on art theft.

"Sunday Morning Calendar"

"Sunday Milepost"

The Fast Draw

"Sunday Passages" — Fond Remembrance
We pay our respects to those who passed away recently.

"Sunday Matinee" — "Where the Wild Things Are"
Most of the snuffling, growling beasts that roam and often stomp through the new movie, "Where the Wild Things Are," have created a beautiful adaptation of the classic children's tale. Some beasts have horns, twitchy tails and vicious-looking teeth. Some beasts snarl and howl and sometimes sniffle. One has a runny nose.

Many critics are agreeing that you will fall in love with all of them. This "Sunday Morning," we will have a preview of the upcoming new film, "Where the Wild Things Are." Critic David Edelstein reviews Spike Jonze's adaptation of the Maurice Sendak children's classic in our "Sunday Morning Matinee."

"By The Numbers"
Week Ending October 18

"Sunday Profile" — Crooner Andy Williams
When he was just seven years old, Andy Williams was already a professional — the youngest member of The Williams Brothers, singing on radio station WHO in Des Moines, Iowa. Nearly 75 years later, he's still crooning six days a week, one state away, in Branson, Missouri. Of course, it was quite a journey covering the 400 miles between Des Moines and Branson.

From part of a quartet to struggling solo artist to television star, Andy Williams has serenaded millions with a voice that President Ronald Reagan once called "a national treasure." Along the way, Williams picked up 18 gold and three platinum records. Not too bad for a kid from tiny Wall Lake, Iowa. We discover that he was just following a dream . . . his father's dream

His song, "Moon River," is woven into the fabric of Williams' legacy and is a staple of his performances at the theater he now owns in Branson. "Sunday Morning' Correspondent Cynthia Bowers profiles the singer and variety show host who introduced America to The Osmonds and rocker Elton John in our "Sunday Morning Profile."

"Our Times" — Geeks Are Good with Contributor Mo Rocca
Being called a "nerd" or a "geek" was once considered an insult, but in today's technologically savvy world, "nerd" is a "tres cool" sobriquet. Twenty-five years after the movie, "Revenge of the Nerds," revenge hardly seems necessary. Nerds, geeks, dweebs and dorks are doing just fine.

And now, geeks are rubbing off on everyone. Today, it seems we have a bit of geek in all of us. This "Sunday Morning," we get inside the Nerd mindset with author (and self-professed nerd) Ben Nugent. We'll attend a Geek Singles Night and discusses why geeks love manuals with the founder of the technology mister-fix-it, The Geek Squad.

Next, we'll visit the set of the CBS's hit show, "The Big Bang Theory" where they make geek look chic. So take out your slide rules and pocket protectors as "Sunday Morning" Contributor Mo Rocca looks at how and why "geeks rule."

Opinion — Faith Salie
"Early Show" Correspondent Faith Salie on Geeks

"Sunday Ender" — The Ins and Outs of Yo-Yos
"Sunday Morning' Correspondent Rita Braver travels to the National Yo-Yo Contest in Chico, California, where the biggest yo-yo competition in the world, takes place. The contest draws fans from around the country to a fierce competition that is far different from yo-yo contests of yore.

Believe it or not, yo-yo like images first showed up on ancient Greek and European artifacts — some say the yo-yo is one of the oldest games in history. We'll take a look at how this simple game has remained popular throughout the years, with some ups and downs, so to speak.

"What you know about yo-yos, throw out of your head," says defending Two-Handed Style Champion Joseph Harris. Paul Yath, another player seeking to defend his championship title, shows us just how contemporary yo-yos are different from the older ones with which most of us grew up.

As National Yo-Yo Museum Director Bob Malowney points out, yo-yos date back to ancient times, but the sport is taking a new, dynamic turn. Good choreography and stage presence are essential for today's competitors at the National Yo-Yo Contest. What's the next stop . . . the Olympics?
