THE ROOKIES: MARY SARTAIN
AGE: 29
OCCUPATION: Real estate entrepreneur
HOMETOWN: Emeryville, Calif.

MARY SAYS: ''This is closer to $1 million than I've ever been. I'm definitely in it for the money. I'm largely money-driven.''

JEFF PROBST SAYS: ''I think Mary coming into the game is going to be on the bubble. She's either going to learn where to fit in this group quickly or she's going to be on the outs for the whole time. Mary's best play is to hide in the middle, not become a nuisance, just hang out and see if you can hang out long enough that your vote becomes valuable.''

Bio
Mary Sartain is a co-owner of Statewide Financial, a real estate and financial company that, under her supervision, houses a team of loan officers, salespersons and assistants. She has worked in sales all her life. Sartain attended some college at California State, Hayward, where she took courses in art and business. She also attended real estate school and is currently in Broker School.

Sartain lived in Quito, Ecuador when she was five years old. She moved to Oahu, Hawaii, when she was 18 years old to explore island living. She eventually moved to San Francisco and then Walnut Creek, California.

Sartain's hobbies include painting, basketball and Bikram yoga. She describes herself as energetic, strong-willed and an achiever. She is most proud of realizing her potential at a very young age and having been in business since she was 19 years old. In addition to her ability to adapt mentally and physically, Sartain believes that her skills of being able to put people together (as she does in her everyday work) to create the outcome that she desires will help her go far on SURVIVOR.

Sartain is currently single and resides in Emeryville, California, with her two Abyssinian cats, Kya and Portia. Her birth date is November 11, 1978.

Well, she's my favorite of the fans so far. Of course I am basing that totally on her looks, which is very typical of men. No wonder we always end up in trouble.

Johnny Fairplay has been called many things, and “matchmaker” is not usually one of them. But Fairplay’s biggest move on Survivor: Micronesia — Fans vs. Favorites happened behind the scenes. Fairplay befriended “fan” Mary Sartain, 29, a real estate broker from Emeryville, Calif., and after the series wrapped production, introduced her to his Pearl Islands buddy Ryan ‘Ryno’ Opray, 35, on Dec. 9. Sparks flew and two weeks ago, Mary and Ryan were engaged. This Valentine’s Day, the pair will pick up their rings, and at the upcoming wedding, will have the knot tied by All-Stars veteran and ordained minister Lex Van Den Berghe. PEOPLE caught up with the lucky couple, who have immunity from all but each other’s charms! –Cynthia Wang
Why did you hit it off so well?
Mary: Johnny Fairplay is the one who introduced us and Johnny was saying, “You have to meet my friend Ryno. You guys would be perfect for each other. You are the female version of him.” And I’m just like, “All right, Fairplay, I’ll meet him.” So we ended up meeting and I think Johnny’s right. We are versions of each other and by the third or fourth date, we were inseparable. We have the same interests and likes and dislikes. We do have some differences, but we are so alike in so many different ways.
How did you meet?
Mary: After Survivor [wrapped], I stayed in Los Angeles for a while and I met Johnny and Ryan at Scorpion Bar, a little bar in Hollywood.
Ryan: I walked out!
Mary: I guess he was tired. Whatever! So I got his information from Fairplay. Johnny and Ryan ended up talking that night and saying, “You’ve got to give me her number.” He called me that night and we talked for an hour and a half on the phone. We had so much to talk about.
Ryan, what had Johnny told you about Mary and how did the set up happen?
Ryan: It was kind of weird because Johnny had been talking her up and at the time I didn’t want to be in a relationship. I couldn’t care less about that, and she was kind of in the same place, too, but Johnny’s like, “No, no, no. You’ve got to meet her.” So basically I went out and she was supposed to meet us at 9. She shows up three hours later and I’m like, ‘”I’m tired and I am leaving.” I ended up calling that night and we saw each other for Christmas.
How did the proposal happen?
Ryan: I am not a quitter — I am very persistent. I asked her at the top of Runyon Canyon, which is basically in the Hollywood Hills.
Mary: That’s one of our favorite places to go running and hiking.
Ryan: I had a bottle cap ring and I put it on her finger and she kind of smiled and laughed.
Mary: I said yes. From the moment I met him, I kind of knew.
Ryan: We are picking up a real ring from Masterpiece Jewelry in San Francisco.
After having gone through Survivor, would you entertain the idea of a beach wedding?
Mary: Absolutely! That’s what we want. We want the whole beach wedding.

What does this do for Fairplay’s image?
Mary: Johnny is actually a really nice guy “off-camera,” I like to say! He’s kind of like me — a prankster! We kept on getting in trouble with each other.
Ryan: He actually thinks he’s Chuck Woolery but here’s the deal and why I think Johnny hooked me up: He got dropped on his head by Danny Bonaduce [at the FOX Reality Really Channel awards in October] and I was the first friend that he could call in L.A. to take him to the dentist, so I’m at this dentist for six to eight hours holding his hand. He’s all, “You’ve got to come in here. I’m getting three root canals, you have to come in.” So I’m holding his hand and he’s putting his claw marks in me and I am bleeding! He’s like, “Thank you, bro. I owe you.” But he’s officially paid up!

Well I will miss her eyes. Sad to see her blindsided like that. Chet should have been the one to go. The tribe needs to be strong. These strategy moves make no sense early on.

Survivor: Micronesia's First Fan to Leave Has "No Regrets"

Mary Sartain, Survivor: Micronesia — Fans vs. Favorites

After losing its first immunity challenge in last week's Survivor: Micronesia — Fans vs. Favorites (Thursdays at 8 pm/ET, CBS), the Airai tribe (that would be the fans) blindsided Mary Sartain, voting her out as a ploy to undermine Mikey B.'s power. The real-estate-company owner from Walnut Creek, California, talked about the division in her tribe, her short-lived alliance and how she found love thanks to her early departure.

TVGuide.com: It seems like we hardly got to know you. Were you shocked at being voted off so early?
Mary Sartain:
Definitely; I was blindsided. I thought I'd get a little more time — I wasn't ready to go yet!

TVGuide.com: Your relationship with Mikey clearly did you in. In retrospect, do you regret having gotten close with him so quickly?
Mary:
I really have no regrets; people are going to act the way they're programmed to act. No matter what, I think Joel would have been kind of paranoia-central anyways — he would have singled us out. He had a thing against Mikey B.; he thought he was going to gain too much control over the females on the team.

TVGuide.com: Joel came after you as part of his strategy to take control of Airai. Did you have any idea that he was so ambitious?
Mary:
He's a controlling guy; he got very worried at the very beginning that his control was going to be taken away by Mikey B., and that was just too much for him to handle. He was a very forceful player.

TVGuide.com: You know how it goes in this game — very visible alliances are usually easy targets. So was it a strategic mistake to ally with Mikey?
Mary:
In the beginning, I really didn't have so much of an alliance with Mikey B. as I did with the seven of us on the tribe. Basically, the three who kind of felt like they were outcasts — Tracy, Chet and Kathy — were saying, "Oh, Mikey B. and Mary are getting kind of close." They spread that around without me knowing, and I think just by default, everyone thought Mikey B. and I had the tightest alliance. But to be honest, an alliance of two people really isn't strong in a tribe of 10 people. Especially in the very beginning, it's not something that should be feared; it should be the weaker players who are going. And I'm a very strong player. If I would have gotten a chance to swim or do something physical in the challenge we lost, I think it would have been a different story.

TVGuide.com: Let's talk about the division in your tribe. Why did Chet, Kathleen and Tracy become segregated?
Mary:
They basically did it to themselves; we never had anything against them. Kathy had all these crazy things that were coming out of her mouth. We kind of kept our distance from her; a lot of people were getting annoyed, Jason in particular. She paired herself with Tracy and Chet because they felt that they were the older crew and that we were ganging up against them. But that's not really how it would have gone down if they didn't step out of our tribe and build their own shelter.

TVGuide.com: You said Kathy was talking crazy — like what?
Mary:
She was talking about boobs — about breast implants — and talking about Ami being a lesbian and Chet being gay, all these totally off-color things. She was trying too hard to single herself out.

TVGuide.com: Did it seem like strategy on her part?
Mary:
I think she just doesn't really have an edit button; I don't think she played a strategic game. If she hadn't won the first immunity idol, it would have gone down very differently.

TVGuide.com: Well, that explains the Kathy situation; what about Chet and Tracy?
Mary:
I think there were hard feelings because there wasn't a whole lot of work being done on their part; the rest of the crew was really working hard. Tracy is a developer, and she really didn't pitch in with the first shelter we built. When it collapsed, she was kind of like, "I told you so," and that rubbed some people the wrong way. It would have been nice for them to help out. Chet was pretty wiped out by the third or fourth day. I definitely thought we should have voted out Chet.

TVGuide.com: You weren't there for all that long, but what was your best experience?
Mary:
Honestly, if I hadn't been voted off early, I wouldn't have met my new fiancé, Ryan [Opray] from Pearl Islands. I met him through another Survivor contestant. So all is not lost!

TVGuide.com: Who is your all-time favorite Survivor?
Mary:
Obviously my fiancé, Ryan O.! I was hoping to be my favorite Survivor, but that didn't really happen.
