Well... I think this thread can actually be used for General Discussion

from here on in.

Don't know about the rest of you... but I bought the April Fool's joke

about American Idol ... hook, line and sinker.

If nothing else... my grandaughter had a ball telling a few of her

friends who are Idol fans.

I am still clueless what the Great April Fool's prank was that Morty's pulled out?

Please share the joke as I love a truly good/funny prank.

I am sure I would have fallen into the trap.

My greatniece and newphew told us they made special brownies for us - when I opened the package I found a couple of BROWN "E"s. It was cute.

Sorry about that Califcyclone.

When you checked Morty's Home Page ... right at the top

the first atricle was a headline about AI being cancelled

after this weeks show because of slipping ratings and the reasons.

They explained the numbers the past 2 or 3 weeks and claimed

that they were losing sponsors and viewers, etc. and to

read further__________

This is where you 'clicked' to read the rest of the story -

and - of course when you did - it was a huge silly face

and a big APRIL FOOL :partytime:

(Now, if I can just remember to see if I can rig up that Brown-E

thing to pull on my grandaughter next year)

Seems like this season we have almost every style of singing covered.

Country and light pop

Rod Stewart-ish style

COUNTRY

Blues and stylist

Inspirational ballads

Band singer

Whatever Haley is (?)... all over the place

METAL

First year I've had a hard time having a favorite.

The three I see standing at the end of tonite's show

waiting for the ax to fall are Jacob, Stefano and Haley

I had to laugh out loud, literally, when the group of booted off people did their performance and Steven said that America would be rethinking their choices (of voting them off) after that performance. Steven - not really. Only one I can say was maybe a mistake was Pia. But I think she brought that on herself to a degree with song choices and style. The rest of them - darn glad they are gone, every one of them.

I agree the former contestants were horrible. Pia was the only loss. Paul seemed a bit lost and looked like he was mouting or rather trying to mouth the words and then when he did sing his rasp did not go with that song.

Theme for this week:

Then there were six. Can you believe we are down to just six American Idol 2011 Hopefuls left since the show started more than three months ago? There are just five weeks left in the season until one of the remaining singers is crowned the winner. Has your favorite made it this far?

This week on American Idol the Top 6 will be performing songs from Carole King

This week's theme: Now and Then. They each will sing two songs - one current song, and one from the 1960's.

^^^^ I look forward to it. It's nice only having a few contestants and making them sing (a lot) for their supper. Wheat from chaff, as it were (hopefully). All in all, I kind of like(ed) this AI. I thought it had better talent than some series I've watched. Most of them can at least see proper pitch which hasn't always been the case, IMO. I like Haley, James and Scotty but I have to say that IMO, James Durbin is exceptional.

P.S. Every TV turn I take; I see Pia. Enough, already.

P.P.S. I think that the new sing show is going to give AI big trouble. I'm not one for audience participation so much, anymore.

There are so many songs they could pick from.

Scotty could sing "Down Home Girl" using his twangiest twang. And then pair with Lauren to sing "Jackson"

James could sing "Youngblood" or "Riot in Cellblock #9"

Haley could sing a Big Mama Thornton version of "Hound Dog" really well.

And Lauren could do "Is That All There Is".

But the girls might have a hard time getting votes unless they sing the most well known of Lieber and Stoller's songs.

I still think that they should all have to sing the same song. Often. Lauren is my least fave but I recognize the talent. Sometimes, James is my fave and sometimes Haley is my fave and sometimes Scotty is my fave. I like Haley best, I suppose, and have done so for awhile now but James and Scotty are just as good and often better; in their fashion. I dunno.

I didn't really like any of them all that much last night. I remember looking forward to Carrie Underwood singing. That hasn't happened for me so much this season. I think that Haley should pack for tonight.

Possible song choices for tonight in the article below (make sure to read all the way to the "updates" at the bottom.)

Tonight’s Top 3 performances on American Idol 2011 stands likely to be a pretty great show. After endless weeks of forcing square pegs through round holes the remaining singers will be taking on hand picked songs from the judges, Jimmy Iovine, and their own tastes. It’s hard to imagine this not being better than what we’ve been watching. What? You liked Young Blood and Love Potion No. 9?

So far we know one of the three songs each of the performers will do based on the judges’ assignments. Lauren will cover “I Hope You Dance.” Haley has “You Oughta Know.” Scotty takes on “She Believes In Me.” I’m looking forward to how they clean up Haley’s assignment considering it gets a little racy in parts. Last year Crystal Bowersox performed the song with Alanis Morissette which included such rewrites as “would she go down with you to the theatre?” Oh would she? To catch a matinée? Discount prices? What a bad girl! As long as it ends with the judges telling Haley the song choice wasn’t right then our night will be complete.

Now for the other two songs we don’t know anything for sure yet, but Branden put together an excellent list for this week’s “sing this, not that” with 2 songs for each.

Scotty’s own pick could be “Your Man” if he’s not saving his babylockthemdoors for the finale. Lauren could always go back to the treasure chest of her Miley mixtape if she wants to dig real deep shallow. And for Haley, I’m going to use up all three of my wishes and ask for another round of “Earth Song” dedicated especially to Randy and JLo. If she does that I might finally root for her and her balls of steel.

What do you want to her your favorite sing tonight on American Idol?

Update: Haley’s parents have spilled the beans. According to the parental units, Haley will also be singing “Rhiannon” from Fleetwood Mac and “What Should Never Be” by Led Zeppelin. Thanks for readers Ronhep and Jo for sharing the tip.

Update 2: FOX has expanded tonight’s show to 2 hours according to its main site. If you go to its Press site it still says 90 mins. So I’m guessing we are indeed going to get 20 minutes of singing and 100 minutes of filler and commercials. Awesome-O.

Well I was already not going to watch because I really don't like any of the final 3 but hearing that Haley is singing Rhiannon has truly made me glad I am not going to be watching.
