Universal City, Calif. - December 14, 2009 - It will be the heaviest cast ever when season nine of NBC's hit series "The Biggest Loser" kicks off on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 (8-10 p.m. ET). Twenty-two contestants - eleven family teams of two - come to "The Biggest Loser" ranch hoping to transform their bodies, their health and ultimately, their lives. Alison Sweeney hosts the series and contestants work out under the supervision of trainers Bob Harper and Jillian Michaels.

The new season players include Maria and Michael (Chicago, Illinois), an Italian mother-son duo who have always put others first while Michael's weight soared to 526 lbs., identical twins James and John (Orlando, Florida), who together weigh close to half a ton, Tongan cousins Sam and Koli (Rohnert Park, California), who hope to inspire others in their culture like Sione and Filipe Fa did in season seven, and Cherita (Houston, Texas), a competitive mother who has already beat cancer and is ready to take on obesity along with her determined daughter, Vicky.

The new contestants competing for the $250,000 grand prize are:

BROTHERS: James Crutchfield (Human resources director), 30, and his twin brother, John Crutchfield (Senior marketing manager), 30, Orlando, Florida.

COUSINS: Sam Poueu (Youth football coach and security guard), 24, and his cousin Koli Palu (Football coach and head of security), 29, Rohnert Park, California.

SPOUSES: Melissa Morgan (Attorney), 39, and her husband Lance Morgan (Rancher), 38, Aspermont, Texas.

Maria Ventrella (Corporate travel agent), 51, and her son Michael Ventrella (Deejay), 30, Chicago, Illinois.

For the new season, NBC's "The Biggest Loser" is partnering with General Mills, Feeding America, Subway and 24 Hour Fitness on the Pound For Pound Challenge, which began in season seven of the show. Viewers can go to www.biggestloser.com now and for every pound of weight loss pledged, a pound of groceries will be delivered to a local food bank. Over 3.5 million pounds of groceries have been delivered to local food banks as a result of this program. And the need has never been greater, as one in six Americans may not always have access to the food they need and 49 million Americans now struggle with hunger. The Pound For Pound Challenge allows viewers to help themselves get healthy while helping to fight hunger in their own communities.

"The Biggest Loser" is a production of Reveille LLC, 25/7 Productions and 3Ball Productions. Ben Silverman (NBC's "The Office," "Ugly Betty"), Dave Broome ("A Model Life with Petra Nemcova," "Tsunami Aid: A Concert of Hope"), JD Roth ("Age of Love," "Beauty and the Geek"), Todd A. Nelson ("Unan1mous," "Beauty and the Geek") and Mark Koops ("Breakthrough With Tony Robbins," "Shear Genius") serve as executive producers.

Uh-oh!

'Biggest Loser' Star - Big Fat Liar ... Allegedly

http://www.tmz.com/2010/02/10/the-biggest-...ut-weight-loss/

Based on the weight of the evidence "The Biggest Loser" star Jillian Michaels is pulling a dietary fast one on the American public for profit ... according to a new class action lawsuit.

According to documents filed in L.A. County Superior Court, the Jillian Michaels Maximum Strength Calorie Control dietary supplement is "worthless."

The lawyer who filed the suit, Melissa Harnett, tells TMZ, "Telling people you take two magic pills and then eat chocolate cake all day is a deception."

The suit alleges, "Sadly, Michaels has decided to exploit her fame and goodwill by collaborating with Thin Care and Basic Research to promote a weight loss supplement that purportedly will cause weight loss by itself, without any additional effort on the part of the consumer."

The suit asks for an injunction prohibiting the sale of the product, plus damages.

UPDATE: Jillian has released the following statement:

"The Jillian Michaels line of weight control products is the #1 line of natural weight control products in the United States. Unfortunately, anyone can file a lawsuit in California. (Click through to see the rest)

All it takes is a $355 filing fee. Not only have placebo-controlled, double-blind, published clinical studies been conducted on the active calorie-control compound in Jillian Michaels Maximum Strength Calorie Control, but that research was reviewed by some of the leading weight-loss experts in the world before Jillian would put her name on the product.

The lawsuit will be handled in the courts like all other lawsuits, and we are confident we will prevail. In the meantime, thousands upon thousands of men and women around the United States are using Jillian's Maximum Strength Calorie Control.

To anyone questioning the product's effectiveness, we suggest you try it for yourself. Remember, no weight-control program or product works for everybody. That's why there's a 30 day 100% no-questions-asked money-back guarantee."

This meant that Melissa fell below the red line on The Biggest Loser and would be sent home immediately. She claimed she did not understand her body, but I have to wonder since she knew the game so well as past weeks have proven if she intentionally did this to ensure her husband

Eliminated Contestant Reveals Biggest Loser's Newest Couple

Mar 17, 2010 04:52 PM ET by Robyn Ross

Contestants might lose weight on the Biggest Loser ranch, but increasingly, they also gain a true love. This season's newest lovebirds are Sam Poueu, 23, and Stephanie Anderson, 29.

Biggest Loser's Rebecca dishes about her romance and Rudy

On a conference call, recently eliminated contestant Sherry Johnston told reporters, "They're just as sweet as they can be." The 51-year-old also admitted that early on in the competition she pulled Steph aside and said, "I don't want you to get into a relationship and lose focus of why you're really here... as your fill-in mom, I just want to make sure you keep your head on straight and do well in the Biggest Loser."

Johnston added, "Sam's a really sweet guy, he's really stepped up and when you see them together, you'll see it."

Biggest Loser's Alexandra leaves the ranch but finds love with fellow contestant

During Season 8, at-home winner Rebecca Meyer and Daniel Wright became an item. Antoine Dove popped the question to fellow contestant Alexandra White during that cycle's finale.

The first Biggest Loser love match was after Season 2, when winner Matt Hoover and Suzy Preston started dating. They're now married with two kids.
