Breaking Up Is So Hard To Do

I hear you, Rej . . . It does seem to be as easy these days to change partners as it is to change outfits. I've been calling them 'designer marriages.' It does appear at times that heartbreak seems to be an excuse to promote your latest entertainment project. There also seems to be a surge in adoptions among the celebrated elite. My hope is that particular trend is truly sincere and not a "Mommie Dearest" attempt to gain notoriety as well.

Em and Kim's Three Month Rap

kim_em.jpg

Kim Mathers and Eminem

Guess who's back in divorce court? Less than three months after remarrying his ex-wife, Kim Mathers, Eminem has filed for divorce a second time, the rapper's representative confirmed. The divorce petition on behalf of Marshall Bruce Mathers III (the Real Slim Shady's real name), was entered Wednesday, April 5 in Detroit.

Eminem's lawyer filed the papers at the Macomb County Clerk's office, the station reported. No reason for the breakup was given. The filing on behalf of Eminem was first confirmed by two employees of the Macomb County clerk's office. The employees didn't provide their names, citing an office policy.

"There has been a breakdown in the marriage relationship to the extent that the objects of matrimony have been destroyed and there remains no reasonable likelihood that the marriage can be preserved," according to the filing. The filing also said that Eminem and his wife signed a prenuptial agreement, although it did not list specifics.

The Mathers' first marriage ended in October 2001, but they reconciled in late 2004, according to WDIV-TV. The couple remarried at Meadow Brook Hall in Rochester, Michigan, in January. Of course, given the duo's long history of breaking up and making up only to break up again, there's no telling whether the split will stick.

The Mathers' First Wedding Day

To provide a brief review of the troubled timeline of Em and Kim's less-than-storybook romance: The couple began dating in high school, had their daughter, Hailie Jade, in 1995 and tied the knot in 1999. In August 2000, Eminem filed for divorce for the first time, just two months after Mathers attempted suicide in their home.

Not one to give up without a fight, Mathers fired back with a lawsuit of her own, seeking her share of her husband's fortune, plus an additional $10 million for emotional distress caused by Eminem's murderous ballad, "Kim," which details her death at his hands. In December 2000, the couple briefly reconciled for their daughter's sake.

But in March 2001, Mathers filed for an expedited divorce, citing "a breakdown of the marriage relationship . . . and [because] there remains no reasonable likelihood that the marriage can be preserved." The move set off a bitter custody dispute battle, with Eminem eventually agreeing to give Mathers physical custody of Hailie, plus financial support.

Since their divorce, both halves of the couple have publicly battled with drug abuse. Mathers' cocaine habit landed her on probation and cost her custody of her daughter, while Eminem did a month-long stint in rehab last year to kick an addiction to sleep medication.

In December 2005, a few months after the Grammy- and Oscar-winning rapper emerged from treatment, he made the surprise announcement, that he and Mathers had once again reconciled and were "probably going to remarry."

In January, he made good on that claim, retying the knot in a lavish ceremony in the Detroit suburb of Rochester, with pals 50 Cent and Obie Trice looking on. Now it looks as though it's curtains for Eminem's marital rerun, as the rapper prepares for a divorce court encore.

Brian Grazer Unlocks 'The Di Vorce Code'

grazer.jpg

Gigi Levangie-Grazer and Brian Grazer

Oscar-winning producer Brian Grazer, 54, has filed for legal separation from his wife of eight years, novelist Gigi Levangie-Grazer. In the legal separation papers filed Monday, April 17 in Los Angeles Superior Court, Grazer cited irreconcilable differences. The court papers stated the couple had a prenuptial agreement and that they share no community property.

In his petition, Grazer asked the court to enforce their prenuptial agreement and also requested he not be forced to pay spousal support. He is seeking joint custody of the couple's two children, six-year-old Thomas and two-year-old Patrick. Grazer has a son and daughter from his first marriage, as well, teenagers Riley and Sage.

Grazer's collaboration with director Ron Howard earned them a best picture Oscar in 2002 for "A Beautiful Mind." Next up from Grazer and Howard's Imagine Entertainment is the film adaptation of "The Da Vinci Code" due for theater release on May 19.

Also in the works at Imagine is "American Gangster," directed by Ridley Scott and starring Russell Crowe and Denzel Washington. Another upcoming project is "The Serpent and the Eagle," an epic about Spain's 16th-century conquest of Mexico that Howard is set to direct.

Levangie-Grazer, 43, wrote the screenplay for the Julia Roberts movie, "Stepmom." Ironically, her 2005 novel, "The Starter Wife," is about a woman whose husband of nine years, a Hollywood studio executive, unexpectedly dumps her for a starlet. Hmmm . . .

Gillian Anderson and Julian Ozanne

The truth is out there. Her husband outta here. After just 16 months of marriage, "X-Files" star Gillian Anderson has separated from her documentary filmmaker husband, according to a statement from the couple's lawyers late on Friday, April 21.

"Gillian Anderson and her husband, Julian Ozanne, are saddened to announce that their marriage is at an end and they are in the process of separating," read the statement released by Schillings Law Firm. "At this difficult time they request that their privacy is respected. There will be no further comment."

Anderson, 37, and Ozanne, 42, a Kenya-born photojournalist, married at a friend's beach house on Lamu's Shelly Island, just off the Kenyan coast, on December 29, 2004. They had lived in London with Anderson's daughter from a previous marriage, 11-year-old Piper.

Anderson, best known for her Emmy-winning role as Agent Dana Scully on Fox's paranormal cult drama, "X-Files," was previously wed to movie art director Clyde Klotz. This was Ozanne's first marriage.

According to London's Daily Mirror, the couple met at the dinner party of a mutual friend, with Anderson's first impression of Ozanne being that he was "obnoxious." She reportedly told the paper that she kept running into the filmmaker around town as "fondness developed into something else entirely."

The actress had been due to star in a benefit performance of "The Vagina Monologues" in England over the weekend, but pulled out after news of her split broke. The fiery-haired thespian recently received a BAFTA nomination for Best Actress for her role as Lady Deadlock in the BBC adaptation of Charles Dickens' "Bleak House."

Per reports, Anderson is apparently going from "X-Files" to XXX-files. She'll next star in the explicit revenge thriller, "Straightheads," as one half of a couple who embarks on a violent rampage after becoming the victim of a horrific attack. Anderson also recently revealed plans to return to a more familiar role.

"David Duchovny and I and creator Chris Carter are determined to do another," Anderson said of the long-gestating second big-screen X-Files outing. "Hopefully, by the time we actually do it, whenever that is, people will still give a damn."

Paul McCartney 'Can't Work It Out'

Heather Mills and Paul McCartney

LONDON, England -- Former Beatle Paul McCartney and his wife, Heather Mills McCartney, have announced that they are separating after four years of marriage. A joint statement issued on behalf of the couple on Wednesday, May 17, blamed media attention for the split.

"Having tried exceptionally hard to make our relationship work given the daily pressures surrounding us, it is with sadness that we have decided to go our separate ways," the joint statement said. "Our parting is amicable and both of us still care about each other very much."

"We have found it increasingly difficult to maintain a normal relationship with constant intrusion into our private lives," the joint statement continued. "And, we have actively tried to protect the privacy of our child." The couple have a two-year-old daughter, Beatrice Milly.

"Separation for any couple is difficult enough, but to have to go through this so publicly, especially with a small daughter, is immensely stressful," the statement concluded. "We hope, for the sake of our baby daughter, that we will be given some space and time to get through this difficult period."

McCartney, 63, and anti-landmines campaigner Mills, 38, married in 2002, four years after the pop legend's first wife Linda died from cancer. McCartney, who was knighted by the British queen in 1997, is one of the world's richest rock stars, with a personal fortune put at $1.4 billion in 2004.

The Liverpool-born musician and songwriter made his name with the Beatles, alongside John Lennon, Ringo Starr and George Harrison, penning classics such as "Yesterday," "Hey Jude" and "The Long and Winding Road."

His 1969 marriage to his first wife, photographer Linda Eastman, was seen as one of the most successful in show business. The couple performed together in the band "Wings" and famously spent only a handful of days apart.

He married Mills, a former model who had her left leg amputated below the knee after she was hit by a motorcycle in 1993, in a lavish ceremony at an Irish castle. McCartney's second marriage is widely reported to have caused friction with his children from his first marriage, who include fashion designer daughter Stella.

alexis_bledel.jpg

Milo Ventimiglia and Alexis Bledel

This time, life does not imitate art. "Gilmore Girls" star Alexis Bledel and her boyfriend, former costar Milo Ventimiglia, have broken up, People has confirmed. "He is currently single," Ventimiglia's representative confirmed. The couple were together for three and a half years.

Ventimiglia, who turned 29 recently, joined the "Gilmore Girls" cast in fall 2001. He played town bad boy Jess, who became the boyfriend of Bledel's character, Rory. Of their first onscreen kiss, Ventimiglia said in 2003, "I was nervous. We did each angle a million times."

Bledel, 24, and Ventimiglia soon became an offscreen couple, although they kept their relationship low-profile. Last September, Bledel said that they had discussed marriage. "I think everybody who has been dating for more than a couple of years probably talks about it at some point. It's a fun thing for us to talk about, but that's it."

"Gilmore Girls" will return in the fall on the new WB/UPN-hybrid network the CW. Bledel also starred in last year's "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants." Ventimiglia will play Rocky Balboa, Jr. in the upcoming "Rocky" sequel and this fall will star in the new NBC superhero series, "Heroes."

You just might be right. I went searching and the only thing I found so far was on contactmusic.com. It was dated July 28, 2006:

Rocker Alanis Morissette and her ex-fiance, actor Ryan Reynolds, seem to have rekindled their romance after the reportedly split couple were spotted "rolling around" together during a romantic day out in a Vancouver, Canada park. The pair were planning a late 2006 wedding but reportedly ended their engagement last month (June 2006). A pal says, "Someone spread that rumour, but it's not true. They are still very much together."

So cross your romantic fingers and let's hope for the best. It would be nice to believe romance is still alive and kicking! Thanks for the heads up. I'll keep looking to see what I can spot among my entertainment sources.

'Le Divorce' for Hudson and Robinson

kate_hudson.jpg

Kate Hudson and Chris Robinson

Actress Kate Hudson and her husband, Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson, are splitting. The "You, Me and Dupree" star's representative, Brad Cafarelli, confirms that the couple are separating after nearly six years of marriage. Hudson, 27, and Robinson, 39, wed on New Year's Eve 2000 after dating for about a year. Their son, Ryder Russell, was born January 7, 2004.

The pair first clicked at a party in New York City in May 2000, and moved in together just days later. "When I met Chris, everything just seemed to become very clear," Hudson said in 2003. Three months after they met, Robinson presented Hudson with a diamond ring her representative called "a commitment to their relationship."

They were married by an Ute Indian shaman on December 31, 2000, at the Old Snowmass, Colorado, home of Hudson's mother, Goldie Hawn, and her longtime partner, Kurt Russell. (Hudson's father, singer-comedian Bill Hudson, did not attend.) After that, the two were seldom apart for long.

"We try to, as much as we can, schedule our working life around each other," Hudson said in 2002, adding that she hoped their future would bring "millions of babies."

"I'm in such a better place as a husband, as a part of a family and a musician," said Robinson, who wrote the song, "Katie Dear," on his 2002 solo album, "New Earth Mud," about his wife: "Watch her sleeping/With dreams in her mind/Her heart is beating/In perfect time with mine."

Still, Hudson admitted in 2003, "In the beginning we were so volatile. We were so in love and passionate, and then we would just hate each other and throw stuff around, and then we would travel to Paris for a week."

After Ryder was born in 2004, Hudson spoke of her relationship with Robinson, "We're sharing something so gigantic now. I think it's the best we've ever felt being together."

But rumors of marital discord surfaced the same year

"'Til Death" Vow Not for Brad Garrett

by Stephen M. Silverman

brad_garrett.jpg

Brad Garrett and Jill Diven

"Everybody Loves Raymond" Emmy winner Brad Garrett and his wife of seven years, Jill Diven, quietly divorced a year ago, he tells USA Today. Garrett, 46, says that he and Diven had kept their split a secret from his coworkers and even his parents for the past year, and that he and his ex-wife are on good terms.

Garrett was quoted as saying he considers Diven "an extraordinary woman" and "the greatest mom in the world." They have two children, Max, 7 and Hope, 6. "Our No. 1 focus is our kids and parenting," Garrett said. "We will always be friends because we will never be single parents. We will always be two parents."

Still, he says, "You can't stay together for the kids, because kids know everything. Sure, it's daunting to have Daddy move out, but when he's back two days later, and he gives Mom a hug, and everyone goes to lunch

Oct 30, 2:47 PM EST

Courtesy of The Associated Press

"We are saddened to announce that Reese and Ryan have decided to formally separate," publicist Nanci Ryder said in a statement issued Monday on behalf of the couple.

"They remain committed to their family and we ask that you please respect their privacy and the safety of their children at this time," the brief statement concluded. Ryder said she could not elaborate on the split.

Britney Spears Files for Divorce

by TMZ Staff

163543__chaotic01_l.jpg

Kevin Federline and Britney Spears

Britney Spears has filed a petition for divorce from Kevin Federline. TMZ obtained the legal papers, filed pn Tuesday, November 7 in Los Angeles County Superior Court, citing "irreconcilable differences." In her petition, Spears asks for both legal and physical custody of the couple's two children, one-year old Sean Preston and two-month old Jayden James.

Also, Spears is asking for Federline to get reasonable visitation rights of the two boys. As for money, sources tell TMZ the couple, who married in October 2004, has an iron-clad prenup. Not surprisingly, Spears is waiving her right to spousal support. She's also asking the judge to make each party pay their own attorney's fees.

Spears gives the date of separation as yesterday, the same day she flaunted her incredible revamped physique during a surprise appearance on David Letterman's show. Sources tell TMZ there was no single reason for Britney pulling the plug, rather, it was "a string of events."

Spears has hired powerhouse celebrity divorce lawyer Laura Wasser, who has repped a number of celebs, including Angelina Jolie, Nick Lachey and Kiefer Sutherland. We're told Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe asked Wasser to represent both of them in their split, but Wasser declined for personal reasons.

Significantly, Britney lists the date of her marriage as October 6, 2004. There was an uproar around the time of the wedding because the highly publicized "secret" ceremony was held on September 18, leading many to question the validity of the ceremony. Now the divorce documents indicate that the lavish ceremony was not the official wedding.
