Biography

Ken Hoang (22)

Hometown: Westminster, California

Occupation: Professional Gamer

Ken Hoang gives a new meaning to the term "gamer." Known to the gaming community as "the King of Smash," Hoang is a professional at his craft. As the current international champion of Nintendo's Super Smash Brothers Melee video game, Ken has traveled the world from Japan to Australia to prove his dominance.

Hoang uses his tournament winnings to help support his family. He and his siblings still live at home to help pay the mortgage. It has also led to a strong bond among his brothers and sisters. In fact it was his sister that started his addiction to SURVIVOR.

While he may seem like an interesting choice for a game based in the outdoors, this gamer sees it as an amazing opportunity. Ken is very creative, and has a strong passion for art, a skill he is currently going to college to fine tune. When not playing videogames or brushing up on his art, Hoang enjoys playing with his pets, a Maincoon cat named Kinski and a Husky named Monster.

He loves the fact that he will be considered an underdog because everyone will underestimate his prowess at playing mind games. Nobody would look at him and believe he climbed Mt. Fuji at the age of 20. Ready to exploit his slight physical stature, Ken will trick his fellow players into seeing him as a non-threat, only to smash them if they get in his way.

Ken is single and currently resides in Westminster, Calif. His birth date is October 10, 1985.

Yeah, I like him too but I have the feeling that his skills as a video game champion won't translate well into the skills needed to win Survivor...we shall see.

Interesting profession, to say the least. Wonder how long one can survive as a professional gamer?

Will get heartsick and miss his Nintendo. Will take chances in the game because he'll play survivor like he plays games.

I won't underestimate him.

I just don't know about this guy! Remember Shane Powers from Season 12? He was a 3 pack a day smoker who didn't even start to go cold turkey until day 1 of the show! I always remember how the other castaways thought he'd had a breakdown that day he was walking around camp with a piece of wood pretending it was his Blackberry! How is this guy going to survive 39 days without HIS technology? :lamo:

I just see this guy failing in the physical challenges and finally figuring out that the reality of Survivor is not the fantasy game he has in his mind!

Someone might want to tell him if he were to get his JOYSTICK out of his hand, he might get laid, quit being a klutz and put some meat and muscle on that frame.

Yeah, I agree. So many people think it was a dumb move but it was smart, as far as I'm concerned. Have the loner feel protected and part of an alliance and you secure yourself a crucial vote. Yep, very smart.

Even Jacquie thought it was a very smart move. Here's her response to a question from an interview she did with Reality News Online:

RNO: What was the most eye-opening thing you saw on TV that you didn

I know he did well on the second challenge but he was weak on the first. I lost respect when he went out before the girls, even Kelly. Did you see how poor, old Bob was dying but still kept up with the young guys? Ken was the only man to give up, it was sad! I'm done with you Ken!

I still like him. He so impressed me with that second challenge. And if he sticks with Matty, and his alliance with Ace/Sugar, I think that he will go quite far.
