The Amazing Race 13: Do they sell shoes in Russia?

November 23, 2008 07:43:39 by Britteny_Elrick

Only four teams remaining this week on the Amazing Race. As they head to Moscow, will Andrew and Dan be able to make up for lost time after misreading their clues again? Will Nick and Starr be able to maintain their lead or will Starr’s flirting get in the way of her game? Find out who’s making it to the final three…

Nick and Starr are the first to depart for Moscow, Russia. They must travel to a monastery and light a candle to receive their next clue. Toni and Dallas depart an hour and a half later, but they are willing to do whatever it takes to take the lead in this leg of the race. Both teams are at the airport waiting, and Dallas continues to flirt and hold hands with Starr. Nick says he isn’t concerned about Starr being distracted by Dallas because he knows she is focused. Ken and Tina leave an hour later, at 11 pm, and they realize they really need to focus on communication. Andrew and Dan are far behind and on top of it all, they left their shoes at a temple on the last leg. When they arrive at the airport, Dallas points out a 24hr shoe shop. They buy the cheapest possible sneakers, which were $300.00.

All teams arrive in Moscow on the same flight and then race by taxi to the monastery. The teams discover that there is a huge language barrier and also that that they are quickly running out of money. Toni/Dallas and Nick/Starr arrive simultaneously at the monastery. Now they must travel to the outskirts of Moscow to find an old military base. Ken and Tina’s driver gets lost, but they are still in third place. Toni and Dallas are the first to receive their clue for the detour.

DETOUR: Boots or Borscht. Boots: teams must wear a traditional military uniform and learn a march, then march and entire lap around the grounds. Borscht: teams must wear a military uniform and serve Borcht to 85 men.

Nick and Starr’s taxi keeps getting lost and they are now trailing behind in last place. Meanwhile, Andrew/Dan and Ken/Tina arrive at the military base. All the teams decide to do the marching. However, Andrew has issues putting on the military socks so after awhile they decide to take off the uniforms and switch to the Borscht task. The bad news is, when they start doing serving the Borsht, they realize they are supposed to be wearing the uniforms! They begin to get frustrated with themselves and their inability to read the clues correctly. Then they decide to just do the marching task. They have to do the march several times over because Dan cannot do it correctly. Then, they give up and go back to the Borscht!!! Toni and Dallas maintain their lead and move on to the next location to find a road block.

ROAD BLOCK: Become a delivery person and unload fifty 50lb bags of flour and stack them properly.

Dallas is starting to get really tired after carrying 20 bags. His mother tells him to stop carrying two at a time but he is determined to be in the lead. Ken and Tina arrive, and Ken is hoping that his career in the NFL has prepared him for this task. Ken starts to catch up, but Dallas is the first to complete the road block and head to the pit stop. Nick and Starr finally arrive. Nick tries to lift two bags at a time but finds he is not strong enough. They finish the task before Andrew and Dan arrive.

Dallas and Toni are the first to arrive to the pit stop. Andrew and Dan run out of money for their taxi and realize they probably shouldn’t have bought those shoes. They try to barter with the taxi driver and offer everything they own, but he is not having it. Ken and Tina are the second to arrive, followed by Nick and Starr. Andrew and Dan are the last to arrive but find out it is not an elimination leg. They will encounter a speed bump on the next leg of the race.

The Amazing Race airs Sunday nights at 8 PM ET on CBS.

Amazing Race 13: No money, no passport, no luck

November 30, 2008 08:05:29 by Britteny_Elrick

This week on the Amazing Race, four teams will be competing to win a place in the final three. Although Andrew and Dan were saved from elimination, they will have an additional speed bump to complete. Will they be able to overcome the odds? Or perhaps another team’s misfortune will be their saving grace…

The teams must travel to a submarine in order to find their first clue. Dallas and Toni are the first to depart, but they have a hard time finding a taxi driver who knows where to go. Ken and Tina are the next to leave, and Tina says that Ken is still not putting their relationship first. Andrew and Dan are concerned about all of their mishaps thus far, and believe it would be a miracle to end up in the top three.

All of teams except Andrew and Dan (lets just call them Dandrew) make it to the submarine simultaneously. They are instructed to take a taxi to Park Iskusstv and search the grounds for their next clue. The teams end up getting stuck in horrific traffic for a couple hours. Nick and Starr take the lead and are the first team to encounter the road block. Dandrew makes another major blunder as they arrive at the wrong park (apparently there are two with the same name).

ROAD BLOCK: Scour the park of monuments and count the statues of Lenin and Stalin and use the number to decipher a code. Then they have to go to a bookstore and locate the page number in a book which will give lead them to an apartment building.

Nick completes the road block first, and they make their way to Sokolinky Park to find a lady with a pony who has the next clue. Dallas and Tina keep guessing the wrong number and have to wait another ten minutes before they can guess again. They try to figure it out together, but it isn’t working. Finally, Tina guesses correctly and gives Dallas the answer on her way out. Nick and Starr are the first to reach the detour.

DETOUR: Ride the rails or ride the lines. In ride the rails, they must take the metro and find a snack shop, the wrapper of a sandwich will lead them their next clue and eventually to the park station. In ride the lines, take a bus to find a key-maker that will give them a key to a locker which will contain their clue and lead them to park station.

Nick and Starr decide to opt for riding the rails. This task can be quicker but much more confusing. Meanwhile, Ken and Tina discuss the fact that they aren’t going to help any more teams from here on out. While Dallas and Toni make their way to the detour, Dallas realizes that he has left his backpack (including passport and money) in the taxi, which has already left!!

Dandrew realizes what happened to Dallas and they hope that this will allow them to jump ahead. Unfortunately, as soon as they complete the road block they are given their speed bump (penalty from not following the clue last leg). Ken and Tina decide to ride the lines and take their chances with the bus system. After riding it for a little while, they realize that they are on the wrong bus and must start over. Dallas and Toni start begging on the street and finally meet some generous people who give them money.

Vdnkh Park is the final pit stop for this leg and Nick and Starr are the first to arrive. The other teams are neck and neck as they are still trying to complete the detour. Dandrew and Ken and Tina arrive at the pitstop at same time. Dandrew checks in as team number two, however Ken and Tina are informed that they didn’t bring their last clue from the detour and must go back to retrieve it. Toni and Dallas start to catch up, but Ken and Tina are able to get back to the pit stop in time to be the third team. Dallas and Toni are eliminated from the race. Dallas says he feels like he let his mom down, but she says she’s never been more proud of him.

The Amazing Race 13: Nick and Starr race across the finish line

December 7, 2008 09:23:58 by Britteny_Elrick

Ten weeks ago, eleven teams embarked on The Amazing Race for a chance to take home the one million dollar prize. After risking their lives on a daily basis, navigating through six different countries, and eating rather questionable ethnic cuisine, tonight it was down to the final three teams: Nick and Starr, the cut-throat brother and sister duo; Andrew and Dan, the Arizona State frat brothers who can’t follow directions to save their lives; and Ken and Tina, a recently separated couple. But only one team will have what it takes to win it all…

Nick and Starr are the first to leave Moscow and fly to the final destination city of Portland, Oregon. Andrew and Dan are the next to leave, followed by Ken and Tina shortly after. All of the teams end up arriving at the same time and they jump into taxis to find go to the detour. Ken and Tina are the first to arrive.

DETOUR: high and dry or low and wet. In high and dry, they will climb 30 ft up a tree to a log suspended in the air that they must walk across. In low and wet, they must walk 850 ft across a river on a floating log.

Tina and Ken choose high and dry, however, Tina is scared of heights so she is very worried. Nick and Starr have finally arrived, but Andrew and Dan are still lost in the taxi. Nick and Starr are the first to finish as Tina is having a hard time. They receive their next clue which instructs them to travel by taxi to the bridge of the gods, where will travel by zip line across a lake to get their next clue.

Ken and Tina are right on the heels of Nick and Starr as they race to the bridge, and they end up pulling ahead of them. Tina is frightened again as she is faced with taking a zip line off the top of a bridge, but she pushes through and they are the first to reach the clue. Their next task is a question game based on the past legs of the race. When they answer them correctly they must search through a field of 150 clue boxes to find the one that has the corresponding picture for that answer.

Nick and Starr are the first to finish and head to the Portland Building to search for a green dinosaur for their next clue. Meanwhile, Andrew and Dan have just completed the zip line. Nick and Starr are the first to arrive and the clue tells them to find a Russian food cart. Ken and Tina arrive closely behind them, but Nick and Starr reach the clue first, which tells them to travel to a place where the “Magic is in the hole” (Voodoo Donuts).

When Ken and Tina get reach the donut shop they find out that the other team has already been there; however, Nick and Starr have had problems getting a taxi. Both teams are now looking for a cab to take them to the finish line. Finally, both teams get a taxi and it’s anyone’s game.

At the finish line, all of the previous contestants are waiting. A cab pulls up and Nick and Starr come running out. They are the official winners of the Amazing Race 13 and the one million dollar prize! Ken and Tina are the second to arrive. When they reach the finish line, Ken asks Tina if they can start wearing their wedding rings again and give it another shot. She says yes, they hug, and the crowd cheers just like in a sappy chic flick. Finally, Andrew and Dan cross the line in last place.

The Amazing Race airs Sunday nights at 8 PM ET on CBS.
