VIDEO PREVIEW: PASSIONS GOES BOLLYWOOD

As TVGuide.com reported exclusively last month, Passions spouses Ethan (Eric Martsolf) and Gwen (Liza Huber) are relocating to India for a fresh, Theresa-free start in life! This is bad news for the man-hungry Theresa (Lindsay Hartley), who dances her way into Gwen's Bollywood-inspired daydream sequence, which airs on Jan. 27.

Video Sneak Peek: Can't wait till next week to see Passions' wackiest production number yet? Watch an exclusive video preview right here.

TVGUIDE.COM VISITS SOAP TALK
Tune-in alert! I will return to SoapNet's Soap Talk on Tuesday, Jan. 24, to dish on daytime suds stars who are trying their luck on prime-time television. This'll be my third time as a Soap Talk guest, but only my first since cohost Lisa Rinna debuted on Dancing with the Stars. Technically that makes this my second dance-related Soaps News item today. Weird, huh?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HOLLY'S JOLLY GH NEWS
General Hospital is now confirming what TVGuide.com told you earlier this week: Dynasty diva Emma Samms is reprising her classic '80s role as Holly Scorpio! She first airs Feb. 20. "I'm so thrilled to be visiting Port Charles again," Samms said in a statement. "Among the many jobs I've had over the years, General Hospital has always been close to my heart. I'm so looking forward to seeing a lot of dear friends, in front of and behind the cameras. As for the scene when Holly and Robert meet again, I will definitely tune in for that!"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

KNOTS LANDING STAR JOINS Y&R
Seeing Ted Shackleford in CBS' recent Knots Landing reunion reminded me of how much I miss him. Fortunately, the Eye network has invited my fave nighttime soap hunk to take a dip in the daytime suds!

Shackleford begins a short-term stint on The Young and the Restless on Feb. 2 as prosecutor Will Bardwell. He'll throw the book at Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson) for the recent shooting murder of Tom Fisher (Roscoe Born). Of course, viewers know Ashley's just covering for the real culprit: her ailing dad, John (Jerry Douglas), who doesn't remember gunning down the creep who menaced his family.

Let's hope Shackleford's verdict on daytime soap work is more favorable than that of his Knots costar Joan Van Ark, who bailed on her gig as Y&R's Gloria back in '04. Yeah, you know I couldn't resist going there. (Keep reading for more Restless dish....)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AMC GRAD SAYS THE L WORD
Scoop! Eden Riegel (Bianca) isn't the only All My Children star who thinks playing gay is A-OK. TVGuide.com has learned that Rebecca Budig (ex-Greenlee) will guest-star in an upcoming episode of CBS' Out of Practice as Carla, a lovely lesbian who gets fixed up with Regina (Paula Marshall). Although no air date has yet been scheduled, Budig's installment — entitled "Doctors Without Bidders" — will air sometime after Out of Practice comes back with fresh episodes in March.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AXED STAR SUES GH
Fired General Hospital star Kari Wuhrer (ex-Reese) has gone all Hunter Tylo on her former employers and filed a pregnancy-discrimination lawsuit. In dramatic court documents obtained by TMZ.com, Wuhrer alleges that "there is a viral pandemic of discriminatory conduct raging through ABC's daytime soaps. The vile underbelly of the Hollywood Machine encourages female actors to be as beautiful and slim as possible.... Even one whiff that an actress on an ABC daytime soap has conceived a child is enough to have her character killed off the show." She goes on to allege that Lesli Kay (Felicia, The Bold and the Beautiful) also lost her role as GH's Lois as a result of a pregnancy. Wuhrer is seeking damages "in excess of $1 million."

"ABC Daytime has a clear track record of working with actresses on all of its programs to continue their employment during pregnancy," an ABC spokesperson tells TVGuide.com. "The decision to eliminate Ms. Wuhrer's character on [GH] was made for legitimate creative reasons, was consistent with her contract and was not motivated by her pregnancy."

As for Lesli Kay, a B&B rep says the actress has "no comment" on Wuhrer's allegations.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CLASSIC Y&R VIXEN RETURNS
Faboo news! Blonde spitfire Barbara Crampton is returning to The Young and the Restless. Unfortunately, it's just for one day. On Feb. 7 she reprises her role as Leanna Love, the wacky writer who once penned a Ruthless exposι about her ex-husband, Victor Newman. This time Leanna drops by Genoa City to stir the pot during Ashley's aforementioned murder trial.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

GAY BASHING ON GH
General Hospital has finally moved full steam ahead with Lucas' gay story line this week. Click here for TVGuide.com's full report.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

RESTLESS ROMANCE REPORT
Spoiler alert! Fans of The Young and the Restless were shocked and awed when Nicholas (Joshua Morrow) recently committed adultery with that redheaded vixen Phyllis (Michelle Stafford). If you thought it was just a one-time indiscretion, think again! Today, the adulterous lovers will enjoy a second roll in the hay (literally) in the Newman-ranch stable. In a recent TVGuide.com Soaps Poll, a whopping 85 percent of you agreed that the affair is wrong, but it's so right. Nick and Phyllis are young and restless, and their chemistry is red hot!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HARRISON FORD MEETS PC PRINCESS
Remember Port Charles cutie Carly Schroeder? The tot who played Serena Baldwin, the TV daughter of Kin Shriner's Scotty, has grown up into a 15-year-old lovely with hot prospects in Hollywood. Next month Schroeder costars in the Warner Bros. hostage thriller Firewall as the offspring of Harrison Ford and Virginia Madsen. Other notables in the cast include A Beautiful Mind's Paul Bettany and 24's Chloe herself, Mary Lynn Rajskub. Nice going, Carly!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TY TRADES TALK FOR LAUGHS
Soap Talk cohost Ty Treadway may or may not join the cast of The Bold and the Beautiful, but he will definitely pop up on the ABC laugher Rodney. "I play John the exterminator," Ty tells TVGuide.com. "Rodney (Rodney Carrington) finds a condom in the house and he thinks his wife (Jennifer Aspen) is cheating on him with me! I have a scene where I'm busy taking care of some bees and Rodney has a fantasy sequence about her messing around with me. It was very fun!" Ty's episode, cheekily entitled "Where the Rubber Meets the Road," will air sometime this spring.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"HELLO? IT'S YOUR EVIL TWIN CALLING...."
Having tested the technological waters with Guiding Light's audio podcasts, CBS began doing them for As the World Turns this week. The Eye network will also venture into developing original soap-opera content for cell phones, per Variety. Tentatively entitled Hey, It's Me, the first celly sudser — also known as a "mobisoap" — would run five to seven episodes a week, with each installment being three to five minutes long. Story arcs might last up to three months. Personally, I think my own cell-phone conversations are melodramatic enough, but I'm willing to give this a try.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

VIEW TO A THRILL
Barbara Walters and Co. will announce, live on The View on Feb. 8, which soaps and their stars — oh, and which talk-show hosts — are this year's Daytime Emmy nominees. In semirelated news, didn't Star Jones seem kinda craaazy in her recent 20/20 interview? Someday, Star said with a straight face, she wants to ride down the Nile dressed as Cleopatra. Seriously. Uh huh.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Y&R'S KRISTOFF CRISIS
Here's the bad news: As his contract negotiations drag on, Kristoff St. John's status at The Young and the Restless remains in question. That's just wrong. Daytime's answer to Denzel has starred on the CBS sudser since 1991 and he needs to stay, OK? The better news: St. John has been nominated for yet another NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actor in a Daytime Drama Series, alongside Y&R's Bryton McClure (Devon) and Shemar Moore (ex-Malcolm); All My Children's Michael B. Jordan (Reggie); and The Bold and the Beautiful's Antonio Sabato Jr. (Dante). The nominees for Outstanding Actress are Passions' Marla Gibbs (Aunt Irma) and Tracey Ross (Eve) as well as Y&R's Christel Khalil (ex-Lily), Victoria Rowell (Drucilla) and Tonya Lee Williams (Olivia). The 37th Annual NAACP Image Awards air March 3 on Fox.

EXCLUSIVE: Y&R'S ERIC BRAEDEN SPEAKS OUT

Outspoken Young and the Restless superstar Eric Braeden made no secret of his displeasure with Victor Newman's story line — or lack thereof — during the past year. But it's 2006, and the Daytime Emmy winner is tentatively optimistic that his sidelined character could become a titan with teeth once again. In this exclusive interview with TVGuide.com, Braeden frankly shares his current feelings about the role he's played for 25 years. But read carefully, suds fans: It's what this gentleman says between the lines that's most telling!

TVGuide.com: Last year, you expressed unhappiness with your Y&R role in the soap press. Have the show's producers talked with you about this?
Eric Braeden:
Not really. They're working on things, as far as I know. What can I tell you? I'm sure it will right itself again.

TVGuide.com: From what I know of upcoming plotlines, Victor's story prospects are looking up.
Braeden:
Yes. It's high time! I simply felt that the character had become marginalized and deconstructed, as it were.

TVGuide.com: It bothers me that Victor is still allowing his kids to run his empire. Does it bother you?
Braeden:
Well, it is all in how it is done. If you have this powerful character looming in the background, watching everyone, and then you have the audience anticipate that he may pull out the rug from under them, that's good. But if he simply stands by, watches and does nothing, then that's very unexciting. That is neutering the character. I do not think that the audience wants a neutered Victor.

TVGuide.com: Victor is financially backing Nikki and Phyllis in their new day-spa venture. That means Victor will be pitted against his rival, Jack, again.
Braeden:
Eventually, exactly. [The late Y&R creator] Bill Bell understood that the power lies with one man. He understood that beautifully. He symbolized that and he lived that himself. That's why he invested that in the Victor character. Enough said.

TVGuide.com: It'd be fun to see Vic and Jack do battle.
Braeden:
We'll see what happens. The enormously interesting scenes in the past with Peter Bergman (Jack) were great. He's a wonderful actor. Those were riveting scenes and riveting story lines about some real issues.

TVGuide.com: Victor and Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) have been somewhat back-burnered since that Mafia story. Is the tide turning for them storywise?
Braeden:
But you see, in the past, it used to be — and one forgets — that Victor went solo. He did things on his own. He didn't need Nikki at his side to do anything. But she suffered from the consequences of his actions. That's not happening right now. In other words, why is there this notion that Victor and Nikki have to do things together? It's a ludicrous notion. In the old times, there used to always be a conflict between them and that is what was interesting drama.

TVGuide.com: So you're not thrilled with Victor and Nikki just happily hanging around the Newman ranch.
Braeden:
No, it has not been to my liking. Having said that, I think a lot of the other story lines have been very exciting. No question about it. But as far as my specific character is concerned, I have not been happy.

TVGuide.com: Don't you have another couple of years left on your contract?
Braeden:
I'm gonna have to check that soon.

TVGuide.com: When the time comes, do you think you'll decide to stay on Y&R if you're happy with your story?
Braeden:
I am enormously loyal to the show and very possessive of my character. I don't want to make any projections. I stopped prognosticating in this business 30 years ago. I just don't know, and I don't want to speculate.

OH MOMMA! GH'S EX-CARLY IS BACK
Sarah Joy Brown, the wildly popular General Hospital and As the World Turns grad, hits the big screen today in Big Momma's House 2. She returns as an FBI agent who is oblivious to the crush another fed (Less Than Perfect's Zachary Levi) has on her. "I’m not really even oblivious to the crush that he has, it’s more that he just annoys me to death," Brown told TVGuide.com's own Matt Webb Mitovich. "Zach Levi is going to be the biggest thing since sliced bread. You have got to put that in there." Consider it done, Sarah.

RUMOR CONTROL: NEW DAYS FOR KIMBERLIN?
Despite what you may've read elsewhere, soap superstar Kimberlin Brown is not gunning for a role on Days of our Lives. "That is pure rumor," a show rep insists to TVGuide.com. "We're not sure where it came from."

While suds fans best know Brown as she-devil Sheila Carter from The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful, she is a hero in real life. Brown recently donated her bone marrow to help save the life of a 16-month-old baby girl who was born with leukemia. "I can't imagine a family having to lose [a child]," she told Extra. "This is why I did what I did. Is there anything more important that you can do before you leave the world than to save someone else?"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DAYS STARLET QUITS
Soap vixen Arianne Zuker has opted not to renew her contract at Days of our Lives. As Nicole Walker (aka porn star "Misty Circle"), she has spent eight filthy and gorgeous years slutting around Salem. The comedic highlight was definitely Nic's love triangle with Brady — who was played by Zuker's real-life husband, Kyle Lowder — and his Greek zillionaire grandfather, Victor (Jen's papa, John Aniston).

"Arianne has decided to take this opportunity to venture out and explore new projects," a show rep says. "The cast and crew of Days know that she is an extraordinary talent, and although she will be dearly missed, we wish her every success! There are no immediate plans to recast the role of Nicole.” Zuker last airs Feb. 7. FYI, the Days rep says no exit scene is planned to explain the actress' absence and that Nicole's story is being left "very open-ended."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

GH UPDATE: ALICIA STAYS!
Viewers of Tuesday's episode of SoapNet's Soap Talk saw not only yours truly being interviewed by Ms. Lisa Rinna herself, but they also got an update from Alicia Leigh Willis on her status at General Hospital.

After GH's cast and crew threw Willis a goodbye party on the set, executive producer Jill Farren Phelps persuaded her to stay and wrap up the pregnant Courtney's triangle with Jax and Nikolas. "I was ready to go," she recalled, "when [Jill] came to me and said they had this really great story line. Things felt unresolved. [I said] 'Yes, of course.'" As a result, Willis will continue to air through February sweeps and slightly beyond.

When Soap Talk's cheeky cohost, Ty Treadway, asked if Willis would prefer to see Courtney recast or killed off, the actress danced around that tough question. "I would hate to see someone else come in," she grinned. "I love playing Courtney and to see someone else come in, it's like, 'It's my character!' I don't want to see someone else come in, but if they do, I wish them all the luck."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BIG BONUS FOR ONE LIFE LADY
Hasn't One Life to Live day player Kerry Butler done an impressive job as Nash's neurotic, messy ex-girlfriend, Claudia Reston? OLTL's bosses like Butler so much, they've put her on contract. Uh-oh! This spells trouble for "Tessica." For the latest on the ABC sudser's split-personality saga, read my Soaps Q&A with head writer Dena Higley.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ABC SOAP STARS SPLIT
TVGuide.com is sad to report that suds stars Michael E. Knight (Tad, All My Children) and Catherine Hickland (Lindsay, One Life to Live) are ending their marriage of 13 years. "After long and careful consideration, we have decided to separate," the couple said in a statement. "Though it is never easy, our decision was made with a great deal of love and mutual respect. We have always been great friends and will continue to be so."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HOSPITAL HAG'S NEXT VICTIM
Reliable rumor has it that General Hospitals Brad Maule (Dr. Tony Jones) will be among the casualties of an encephalitis outbreak soon to strike Port Charles. And it'll be Helena Cassadine (Constance Towers) who unleashes the deadly plague that brings classic characters Holly and Robert Scorpio (Emma Samms and Tristan Rogers) back to town.

Speaking of Towers, she played a tragic alcoholic on Wednesday's episode of Criminal Minds, sharing quality screen time with series regular Shemar Moore (ex-Malcolm, The Young and the Restless).

EXCLUSIVE: ARE MATT ASHFORD'S DAYS DONE?

Back in December, Matthew Ashford departed from the Days of our Lives canvas when his suicidal character, Jack Devereaux, drove his car off an icy bridge. Despite this, the NBC sudser insists that Ashford — who has "died" and returned to Days before — is still under contract. Here, TVGuide.com gets answers from the fan-fave himself.

TVGuide.com: Days says you're still under contract. True?
Matthew Ashford:
Yes. I was back [on Jan. 26] shooting a scene where Jennifer (Melissa Reeves) finds a pair of Jack's cufflinks. It wasn't specified, but I think I'm not [there as] a ghost. I think I'm just a figment of Jen's imagination. I just say, "Jennifer, get on with it. If you want to give Frankie a kiss, go ahead, move on." It wasn't maudlin, it was very upbeat. [Editor's note: An NBC rep confirms that this scene will air Feb. 15.]

TVGuide.com: So you're presumed dead, but they'll bring you back alive like before?
Ashford:
I imagine that's it. Because I said, "If it's going to be a Ghost and Mrs. Muir story line, tell me! I can come back and haunt Jen ad infinitum." [Laughs]

TVGuide.com: Jack was already dying of an unspecified soap-opera illness when your car plunged into the river. That's like double death! What if Days decides to leave Jack in a watery grave?
Ashford:
I feel like I've done very good work and it hasn't ensured that I'd stay in the past. I've been on and off the show, and I cannot let that rule my life. So I'm going to continue to do the best work I can do and hope for the best. If it turned out that I was not going to be back, that would have been a sad farewell to the character, my cast mates and the audience. But I don't see that happening. I don't think that's the case.

TVGuide.com: Your name went missing from the show's credits in some recent episodes.
Ashford:
Oh, I see. I wasn't aware of that. It's a very funny television world we're living in right now, where these kind of things are going on. The show had eight or nine actors leave [during the serial-killer story] and then come back, and then said those actors were never really gone. They were gone. You kind of can't tell the audience the same thing twice.

TVGuide.com: What do you say to soap fans who are truly worried about you?
Ashford:
They always ask, "Are you dead? Are you off the show?" I say, "Well, not really." You're not seeing me on screen very much, so it's really hard to give the audience a clear answer. I just want to thank all the fans for their support. They have been incredible. I also want to ask them to hang on a bit longer and hope for a juicy story, because that's what I've been asked to do.

TVGuide.com: Maybe Days will get Jen cooking with Frankie, then have Jack return healthy and regret pushing them together so hard.
Ashford:
I check in with Missy Reeves and Billy Warlock (Frankie), and they're saying [their characters are] getting a chance to get a little closer. Billy's concern is that this couple is given a real shot at moving on with their lives. All I can say is stay tuned. Hopefully, we're going to have a really nice payoff at the end of this. My only hope is that the stakes are really high.

TVGuide.com: You deserve better than that depressing stuff you played toward the end. Was that hard?
Ashford:
It was. For months, I was playing one note: "I'm getting out of here. I'm dying." That was hard for me as an actor. But I applaud the Days writers and producers for the story line about Zack's death. Kristian [Alfonso, Hope] and Peter [Reckell, Bo] have been doing great work. That's got to get our show some attention next year, around Emmy time. I'm hoping [my costars and I] will also have something like that.

Keep reading to learn what Ashford's working on while he awaits his Days comeback! And don't miss his very special photo in today's Caught in the Act.

RESTLESS VET EXITS
Scoop! The Young and the Restless cast and crew gathered on the set this week to share a farewell cake for soap vet Jerry Douglas. TVGuide.com has learned that Douglas, 73 — who has played Jabot Cosmetics tycoon John Abbott since 1982 — was let go due to a story-line-dictated twist.

Spoiler alert! As viewers know, John shot the vile Tom Fisher (Roscoe Born) and refuses to allow his daughter Ashley (Eileen Davidson) to cover for him by taking the murder rap. What will be the Abbott patriarch's reward for ridding Genoa City of human scum? A seven-year prison sentence. Although it's sad to see this beloved pro go, Douglas has been woefully underused for years. At least Y&R is sending him and his classy character out with a bang!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DAYS DUDE DESTRESSES VANESSA
Scoop! Days of our Lives hustler Brody Hutzler (Patrick) will report to the set of NBC's Las Vegas on Monday to tape a guest gig. His role? A sexy masseur who oils up and rubs down Ms. Vanessa Marcil (ex-Brenda, General Hospital) in the March 10 episode. Hold on a sec: Vanessa abandoned the daytime suds for prime-time TV and she's still getting sensual healing from my fave soap hunks? No fair!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WHAT I LIKE ABOUT LINDA
Linda Dano alert! The soap vet guest-stars on WB's What I Like About You on Feb. 17. She'll play Dan Cortese's mother, which also makes her Jennie Garth's new monster-in-law. "On Desperate Housewives, I play a mother [who] is thrilled that her son even likes women. On this [show], I play a mother who would prefer that her son's new wife would disappear," Dano cracks. "For me, this experience was even richer because Dan also directed the episode."

FYI, Dano will pinch-hit for Lisa Rinna from Feb. 13 to Feb. 15 on SoapNet's Soap Talk, which uses guest cohosts when Rinna's busy hoofing on Dancing with the Stars.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BOLD BEAUTY OUT
Although Bold and the Beautiful honcho Brad Bell has admitted to feeling tempted to keep Lesli Kay on the canvas, the CBS sudser will kill off the dying Felicia Forrester as planned. Bummer!

"Isn't she marvelous?" Susan Flannery (Stephanie) asks TVGuide.com. "I'm sad to lose her, too, but it's such a powerful story."

Despite Kay's popularity, her TV mom thinks it'd be a mistake to reverse Felicia's terminal cancer diagnosis just to keep her around. "Doesn't that kind of burn the audience?" Flannery says. "We have to go down this path and pay off the story in the right way."

Word is, Felicia's unfortunate demise will give rise to a Bold new saga: a tussle over her baby son, Dominick. Look for Italian stallion Dante (Antonio Sabato Jr.) to start asking, "Who's your real daddy?"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ONE LIFE'S SCARY STORK NEWS
As you read here first, Margaret (Tari Signor) turns up alive and ready to give birth to Todd's baby today on One Life to Live. To learn who gets caught up in the pregnant psycho's labor of lunacy, read the scoop straight from OLTL head writer Dena Higley in Soaps Previews. (Posters note: see above)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

KRISTOFF STAYS RESTLESS
Scoop! Although Kristoff St. John's contract negotiations got unusually close to the wire, the Young and the Restless star — who has played Neil Winters since 1991 — tells TVGuide.com he is now "committed to three more years in Genoa City."

As viewers saw last week, Yolanda (Chene Lawson) abruptly skipped town after Neil rebuffed her seduction attempt. (Basically, the recovering crackhead dropped her towel, and the very married Mr. Winters insisted she put it back on and check herself!) For his part, St. John feels relieved that Y&R's writers changed their minds about playing out an infidelity scenario. "It would have been very disrespectful for Neil to step out on Dru with their foster son's mother," he says. "Neil has too much dignity and integrity for that."

That said, it sounds like Y&R has something much juicier planned for the Denzel of daytime. "There's some major, family-related trouble coming up for Neil and Dru," St. John teases. "We're trying to bring back Malcolm, but with Shemar Moore doing so well on Criminal Minds, I don't think we'll be able to get him. If we have to, we will do the story without him. But this is some major stuff — and I don't know if all's well that ends well for Neil and Dru's marriage."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Y&R'S ERIC BRAEDEN WANTS REVENGE!
Those who read Eric Braeden's candid interview last Friday know how passionate he is about his role as Victor Newman on The Young and the Restless. As hinted last week, the soap vet also aims to get back on the big screen. "I am planning to make a revenge picture," Braeden reveals exclusively to TVGuide.com. "I will produce and act in it as well. When that becomes a reality, meaning when the money is there to bankroll it, I will gladly talk to you again." And I'll be glad to pass on the dish to our loyal readers!

SOAP STARS REACT TO EMMY NODS

All of soapdom was buzzing on Wednesday when the Daytime Emmy nominations were announced. Here's how your sudsy faves reacted to all the big news....

First-time nominee Renee Goldsberry (Evangeline) had a mixed reaction to being One Life to Live's lone acting anointee. "It's bittersweet because I saw some great work on my show last year," the supporting-actress contender told TVGuide.com. "I don't want to single anybody out, but I can't help it: Bree [Williamson, Jess/Tess], I thought was absolutely wonderful, [as were] John-Paul [Lavoisier, Rex], Robin Strasser (Dorian)... I also thought that Tari [Signor, Margaret], who was [pre]nominated in [my] category, was really, really great. Michael Easton (John) should get a little shout-out as well, because you're only as good as your partner."

"It was shocking that I was even nominated," said General Hospital's class clown, Scott Clifton (Dillon). He has never won and doesn't think his third time's a charm, either! "I had some stuff — Lindze [Letherman, Georgie] almost dying in the hospital — and I didn't really do anything that great with it. So this year wasn't a great year for me, and I know I'm not winning."

Clifton is perhaps too humble, but we can't help but agree with his prediction on the lead-actor race: "Anthony Geary [Luke] is going to win. His [pre]-nomination tape was spectacular."

All My Children's Alexa Havens (Babe) was thrilled for her TV mom, lead-actress contender Bobbie Eakes (Krystal). "What's so different about Bobbie than most of the nominees is she is a comedic actress as well as a dramatic actress," Havens said. "I think that gives her a leg up on the others."

As the World Turns star Terri Colombino was tickled to see CBS' nomination landslide. "I'm so happy for GL. My sister show!" she grinned. As for ATWT's multiple acting nods, Colombino enthused: "[Trent Dawson, Henry] is my partner in crime, so obviously that's my first priority. But I'm so happy for Jennifer Ferrin (Jennifer), who has put in so much this year, and Jennifer Landon (Gwen), who's just a natural, and Jesse [Lee Soffer Will].... Their love story makes me all excited about [our] show again!"

Young and the Restless vixen Tracey E. Bregman (Lauren) fielded congratulatory calls all day, and made a fun one of her own as well. "That's been the coolest thing about today," she said. "I texted Michael Graziadei (Daniel) and woke him up around 8:15 am. He was still in bed. I said, 'Get up! You're nominated!'

"I got so many calls from our cast, writers, and hair and makeup people congratulating me," Bregman adds. "My first Emmy was in 1985. For my prenomination tape [this time], I submitted the scene of Michael's marriage proposal to Lauren. Christian LeBlanc was adorable and so amazing in it that I never considered it my scene.

"[A bunch of my Y&R cast mates] sat and watched each other's reels for hours one night, and Christian felt I should submit it. There was no ego in the room. All the suggestions came from so much love and support."

Congrats to all the nominees!

BIG BABY NEWS FOR GH STAR
General Hospital redhead Robin Christopher and her husband, Matt Crane (ex-Matt Cory, Another World), are expecting a baby girl in July. A show rep tells TVGuide.com that Christopher's impending maternity will be written into Skye's story line. Um, so much for ABC Daytime's evil conspiracy against pregnant soap stars. Yeah, I went there.

GH, Y&R PROS HONORED
The sudsy scribes of The Young and the Restless, as led by head writers Kay Alden and Jack Smith, snagged outstanding daytime serial honors this weekend at the 2006 Writers Guild Awards. Also of note, General Hospital director Owen Renfroe and his team won soap-helming kudos at the Directors Guild Awards last month.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CALLING ALL SOAP VETS
A cryptic casting call recently went out for a television show about soap grads hoping to return to daytime. "At this time, we can't really divulge much about the project," the industry notice said. "We are just looking for those who had contract roles on soaps and might be interested in returning to one. [Candidates must be] recognizable as former soap stars, not day players."

Hmm... sounds like it should be called I Wanna Be a Soap Star... Again. My short list of personal picks for ex-daytimers who oughta get back in the suds: Actor-turned-artist Thom Bierdz (ex-Phillip Chancellor III, Young and the Restless), Extra correspondent Michael Corbett (ex-David Kimball, Y&R), the feisty Roberta Weiss (Flame, Santa Barbara) and the fabulous Victoria Wyndham (Rachel/Justine, Another World).
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

RESTLESS PUTS DOWN ROOTS
The Young and the Restless has cast Dorian Harewood (Roots: The Next Generations, The Jesse Owens Story) as Judge Wentworth Borden, who will preside over John Abbott's manslaughter case. His episode airs on Feb. 24. For TVGuide.com's exclusive scoop on the Abbott patriarch's future, click here — unless you prefer not to read any juicy spoilage! TV GUIDE, SOAP NEWS

MY SUDSY WORLD TURNS 50!

Did you know As the World Turns toasts a half-century of daytime television on April 2? "I don't want to go too epic on you," says Ellen Dolan (Margo), "but it's incredible that our show has been in American homes for 50 years. What a milestone!"

ATWT isn't waiting until spring to celebrate its birthday, though, since the CBS sudser just snapped up a slew of Daytime Emmy nominations, including outstanding drama, outstanding writing team and five acting nods.

"When I heard my name [announced] on The View, I was in shock," enthuses Jennifer Landon (Gwen), who's a shoo-in to win outstanding younger actress. "Mom was so happy. She didn't even say any words. She just screamed!" No doubt her father — the late, great Michael Landon — would be a proud papa, too.

"I was happy Jennifer was nominated because it would be weird if one of us was nominated and the other one wasn't," says outstanding-younger-actor contender Jesse Lee Soffer (Will). "We have worked together nonstop for the past year!"

Both young thesps submitted prenom reels of their finest hours during Gwen's heartbreaking baby-switch saga, which also helped earn supporting nods for Jennifer Ferrin (Jennifer) and Grayson McCouch (Dusty).

A supporting-actor nom additionally went to ATWT's master of comic relief, Trent Dawson (Henry). His prenom reel focused on Henry's bittersweet marriage to Katie (Terri Colombino). "It was obvious that she was still in love with Mike (Mark Collier) and we couldn't consummate the marriage," he recalls. "So I say, 'Let's go back to being friends,' though I was still in love with her." Ouch!

Dawson plans to submit "something funny" in his second reel for Emmy voters' consideration. "Why the hell not?" he grins. "Entertain 'em for a couple of minutes!" That shouldn't be hard, since ATWT's talented cast has had us charmed for 50 years.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BELL BOY'S BOLD MOVE
Saved by the Bell grad Mario Lopez — who once donned a Speedo to play gay Olympic diving champ Greg Louganis — is now plunging into the soap suds. Lopez joins The Bold and the Beautiful's cast on March 20 as Dr. Christian Ramirez. He's the hunky younger brother of L.A. firefighter Hector Ramirez, who's played by Lorenzo Lamas. Sounds muy caliente!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PASSIONS LESBIANS TO REUNITE
Been wondering what happened to Simone's (Cathy Jeneen Doe) girlfriend on Passions? The sexy Rae (Josarra Jinaro) has been off screen since the New Year's Eve party where Alistair Crane falsely claimed he'd paid Rae to "turn Simone gay." After Rae debunked this preposterous lie, she quietly vanished. But take heart: TVGuide.com has learned Rae returns on March 6 for a very romantic reunion with Simone. So there's still hope for daytime's sole same-sex couple!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

GH'S LUKE SPEAKS OUT
If you missed my exclusive interview with General Hospital's Anthony Geary (Luke) about his Daytime Emmy nomination and those Genie Francis rumors, you missed a lot! Click here to read Geary's candid comments.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HOSPITAL FEVER: WHO'S NEXT?
Last month on SoapNet's Soap Talk, Alicia Leigh Willis (Courtney) hinted that she'd rather see her General Hospital character killed off than see another actress cast in the role. Well, TVGuide.com can now report that — spoiler alert! — GH is granting Willis' wish.

Although the ABC sudser wouldn't confirm it, a reliable source says Courtney will be the next major character to perish in the Port Charles encephalitis epidemic. As for the fate of her unborn child — who may've been fathered by either Jax or Nikolas — you'll just have to stay tuned.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

GREAT SCOTT! AMC STAR OUT
This week's All My Children explosion will claim at least one casualty: corporate titan Ethan Ramsey Cambias, played by the handsomest man in the northern hemisphere, James Scott. FYI: Although Ethan will breathe his last on Monday, Feb. 24, word is Scott will continue to air on AMC either in ghostly visitations, fantasies or flashbacks. Let's hope another soap snaps up this British looker soon! Doing him in is truly a sin.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BIGGEST LOSER CAMEO ON PASSIONS
Passions has a penchant for casting folks off NBC's reality shows. Contract player Heidi Mueller won the role of Kay after appearing on Who Wants to Marry My Dad? back in '03. Next up, The Biggest Loser winner Matt Hoover and finalist Suzy Preston will appear in the March 16 episode as a pair of lovers enjoying an evening stroll in Harmony. The real-life couple, who paired up while trimming down in Loser's second season, say some gooey lines and share a Passion-ate kiss.

Y&R STAR GOES TO JAIL

Jerry Douglas and Christian LeBlanc, The Young and the Restless

In today's episode of The Young and the Restless, John Abbott gets a seven-year prison sentence for shooting the vile Tom Fisher (Roscoe Born). Daytime vet Jerry Douglas last airs on March 1, when the Abbott patriarch heads off to the slammer. Is this the bitter end for John? Not necessarily. Here, TVGuide.com gets the soap dish from the man himself.

TVGuide.com: You've had more airtime in this tale than you've had in years! I prefer to watch a pro like you over the teen rookies any day.
Jerry Douglas:
Thank you. Even if I die tomorrow, I have had one of the greatest story lines an actor can ask for. I don't need more. If there's more coming, that's great. I think the work we've done will make them write more for John Abbott. I really want you to watch what happens in the days after John's sentencing. I'm really proud of the work of the Abbotts because it was painful stuff they have to go through to say goodbye to John.

TVGuide.com: It's distressing whenever John has a stroke or loses his memory. Years ago, Y&R made him "forget" his risky romance with Mamie the housekeeper.
Douglas:
It bugs me just as much as you when they do it as a cop-out. The one time I thought the loss of memory was totally organic to the story line was this time. When you are a normal human being who's brought up with good values, it's shocking to shoot a gun at someone. So John was upset and he drove his car, got into an accident and had amnesia about what happened. I bought it this time. It also gave Eileen Davidson (Ashley) and Judith Chapman (Gloria) a great story of protecting John.

TVGuide.com: Indeed! It's all playing out unusually quickly for a classically slow-paced show.
Douglas:
I am thrilled with our new writer, Lynn Marie Latham, who wrote for Ted Shackelford's (Will) old series, Knots Landing. She's a very bright woman. With Lynn, the show will move at a faster pace; she doesn't like to drag it out. In 30 days we took John from remembering [Tom's] shooting to his sentencing. All the pain and passion and twists and turns really juiced me up as an actor. I loved it.

TVGuide.com: It was a hoot to see John watching over Lauren and Michael's wedding with a gun in his belt.
Douglas:
Eileen Davidson said to me, "You love walking around with that gun! You can play your old hoods again." They all remember my career before Y&R. In the '70s, I guest-starred as tough guys and killers on a lot of cop shows.

TVGuide.com: Well, John looked like quite the tough guy!
Douglas:
I asked if I could add a line after Paul (Doug Davidson) gives me the gun and says, "Be careful, John." They forget the backstory that Paul's father and I were Marines together! So I say, "Paul, I was a Marine, remember?" And Paul says, "Sorry, John." That way, the audience knows John is a tough dude. He can handle himself because he is a self-made man who came from the streets.

TVGuide.com: It'd be fun to see you behind bars in an orange jumpsuit, scrapping with the other inmates.
Douglas:
They've talked about showing John Abbott in prison. I don't know what the hell they're going to do. If they bring me back to do prison scenes, I need advance notice so I can have four or five days' beard growth and look edgy!

HOSPITAL MOURNS BELOVED MD
This reporter recently checked into ABC's General Hospital to attend the star-studded memorial service for Brad Maule's deceased doc, Tony Jones. You'll see me among Tony's mourners during my cameo as "Colleague No. 1" in the March 1 episode! Look for an exclusive photo diary of my day on the GH set next Tuesday, right here on TVGuide.com.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ANOTHER PASSIONS MYSTERY
Passions head writer James E. Reilly must have a kinky thing for mysterious hooded figures. Last year, that white-cloaked lady skulking around Harmony was revealed to be Rachel, as played by General Hospital vet Sharon Wyatt. Coming up this spring, NBC says 16 characters will "travel to Rome searching for lost loves and priceless works of art." Their lives will be manipulated by an incognito monk, whose identity will first be revealed online at PassionsVendetta.com on June 1. Don't go there yet, though — the site will actually launch on March 14, offering twice-weekly video clips with clues as to who's under the hood this time.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ALL MY KIDS COMING HOME
Word is, All My Children is recasting Adam and Liza's daughter, Colby, as well as Palmer and Opal's son, Petey. Both characters are currently away from Pine Valley. They'll come home SORASed — that's short for Soap Opera Rapid Aging Syndrome — into randy teenagers, just in time for summer. An AMC rep had "no comment."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SUDS STARS SPIN THE WHEEL
Don't forget that Wheel of Fortune's Soap Stars Week begins Feb. 27. Your daytime faves drop in on Pat Sajak and Vanna White to play for their favorite charities. The all-star contestant roster includes B&B's Susan Flannery and Lorenzo Lamas; Days-fan faves Matthew Ashford, Deidre Hall and Alison Sweeney; GH's Corbin Bernsen; GL's Ricky Paull Goldin; OLTL's Kamar de los Reyes; Passions hunk Galen Gering; Y&R's Peter Bergman, Kristoff St. John and Michelle Stafford; and Dancing with the Stars vixen Lisa Rinna with her Soap Talk cohost Ty Treadway. Just for fun, here's a photo I took with one of the stars backstage at Wheel.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

JUSTIN TIME FOR SMALLVILLE SPIN-OFF
Passions hottie Justin Hartley, who last aired as Fox Crane on Feb. 10, said he was leaving daytime to try his luck in prime-time TV. Well, not only did the fan-fave get lucky, he hit the freakin' jackpot! Hartley just learned that he's been tapped to play A.C. Curry/Aquaman in CW's Smallville spin-off. For more info, click here.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ONE LIFE SON RISES
One Life to Live lady doc Paige Miller (Alexandra Neil) recently revealed that she had a secret son with the evil Dr. Spencer Truman (Paul Satterfield). So who is this long-lost Llanview lad? Click here for some juicy hints from OLTL head writer Dena Higley herself.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CSI: NY CASTS SOAP HUNKS
Scoop! Actually, make that a double scoop: Days of our Lives dude Bryan Dattilo (Lucas) guest-stars on CSI: NY on March 8. His episode — entitled "Cool Hunter" — features Dattilo playing an in-your-face defense lawyer. As the World Turns alum Brian Bloom (ex-Dusty) also makes a cameo as a drug-abusing doctor who's accused of murder.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

GH STAR PSYCHED FOR NEW ROLE
You read it here first that General Hospital's Corbin Bernsen (Durant) has been cast in the USA Network pilot Psych. Well, good news! USA has officially ordered 13 episodes of the hourlong dramedy, which stars James Roday as a tricky private eye who uses his photographic memory to pass himself off as a psychic detective. Dulι Hill (The West Wing) plays his best friend, and Bernsen is his policeman papa. Psych is slated to premiere July 7 at 10 pm/ET.

Since Bernsen recurs only occasionally on his ABC soap, there's no reason for fans to worry about Carly losing her hard-nosed daddy. "Corbin is still on GH," the L.A. Lawman's rep tells TVGuide.com.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LIGHT'S OUT FOR SANDY
Guiding Light now confirms that Scott Bailey and his conniving character, Sandy Foster, have been written off the show. He last airs March 14. Given that Sandy has turned rather surly and spooky since he lost Tammy to her half cousin, Jonathan, this news comes as no surprise. Without spoiling it, though, I can tell you that Sandy's exit will raise some eyebrows.

MAJOR NEWS FOR GH'S TYLER

Life is looking good for General Hospital's Tyler Christopher, who plays brooding prince Nikolas Cassadine. Per his official website, the Daytime Emmy nominee has landed a role in Secrets of a Small Town, an ABC drama pilot created by GH co-head writer Charles Pratt Jr. Guess it helps to have friends in high places! Pratt's modern-day Peyton Place is a mystery yarn about a sleepy-seeming hamlet that's rocked by a cheerleader's murder. But before fans freak out — "Is Tyler leaving us?!" — let's wait and see if Secrets actually gets ABC's greenlight after the pilot is made. C'mon now, breathe.

On the personal front, the word is that Tyler recently resumed dating GH costar Natalia Livingston (Emily), with whom he split last summer. The soap's rep tells TVGuide.com: "We don't comment on our actors' personal lives."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WORLD TURNS TEEN COMES OUT
As the World Turns' gay teenager, Luke Snyder, played by the adorable Van Hansis, is finally cracking open that closet door!

Viewers have known for a while that Luke has a secret crush on his cute pal, Kevin (Karl Girolamo). In today's episode, Luke finally opens up about his feelings in a candid conversation with Oakdale newcomer Jade (Elena Goode). It's a brave first step in Luke's coming-out journey, which is sure to stir up more conflict with his parents, ATWT supercouple Lily and Holden (Martha Byrne, Jon Hensley).

Video Sneak Peek: Want an early look at Luke's gaytime drama? Watch TVGuide.com's exclusive video preview right here.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BOLD TO RECAST TWINS?
Scoop! There's currently a Bold and the Beautiful audition script floating around that features an emotional scene between Ridge and Phoebe. This all but confirms longtime buzz that the CBS sudser will recast Phoebe and Steffy, who are Ridge and Taylor's identical teenage daughters. Even so, B&B's rep insists to TVGuide.com that "there is no truth to the rumor that we are recasting [the twins]. Alex and Addison Hoover are recurring in those roles." Well, for now, anyway.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FROM GH TO DAYS AND BACK
General Hospital must have some juicy story planned for the wealthy Quartermaine clan, because the ABC sudser is said to be bringing back John Ingle as crusty patriarch Edward Quartermaine. Soap vet Jed Allan played Edward on a recurring basis after Ingle jumped ship to play Mickey Horton on Days of our Lives in 2004. Reps at Days and GH declined to comment.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ANOTHER ATWT STAR JOB HUNTING
If you're wondering why Daytime Emmy nominee Grayson McCouch hasn't been seen on As the World Turns much lately, it's because he's taken a few weeks off to audition for prime-time pilots in L.A., just like Mark Collier (Mike) did. Thus, his Dusty character will be presumed dead as of next week. No doubt the handsome Mr. McCouch — that's pronounced McCootch, not McCouch like the furniture — will pop up alive before long.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DAYS DUDE JOINS PASSIONS
Former Days of our Lives star Victor Alfieri is heading back to daytime! On April 19 the Italian stallion lands on NBC's other soap, Passions, during the upcoming Roman mystery you first read about here. Alfieri's character, Gianni, is said to be a lothario with a taste for pretty heirheads like Fancy Crane (Emily Harper). Sounds like Gianni's cut from the same scummy mold as Franco Kelly, the Days gigolo Alfieri played from 1996 to 1998. If you recall, Sami faced lethal injection for Franco's murder until the real shooter, Lucas, saved her from the needle.

Meanwhile, Alfieri guest-stars on CSI: Miami on March 6 as a blackmailing pimp who meets an unpleasant end. Um, does anyone else sense a career trend here?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SAD NEWS FOR PASSIONS STAR
The unfortunate word is Passions hottie Heidi Mueller (Kay) and Boy Meets World grad Matthew Lawrence have broken off their engagement. The couple, who became betrothed at Christmas, were planning a June wedding. It's not all bad for Mueller, though, who was cast on Passions after a reality-TV turn on NBC's Who Wants to Marry My Dad? At least she gets to share lotsa steamy scenes with those hunky recasts who play NuFox and NuMiguel. A girl could have it worse!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A SOAP STAR IS BORN
Didja catch my cameo appearance at Dr. Tony Jones' funeral on General Hospital this week? For Daytime Emmy voters' consideration, I submit that gripping moment when I entered the chapel, solemnly walked past Anthony Geary (Luke) and found my seat in a pew. Then you saw the back of my carefully groomed head as we mourners bowed our heads in prayer. And, technically, I did have a line when we all said "Amen." Just in case you sneezed and missed me, check out this dishy photo diary of my day on the GH set!

(A famous prime-time soap star has been cast as Brooke's father, Stephen Logan. Click here to learn who it is!)

Guiding Light
As their inappropriate flirtation continues, Alan-Michael and Marina impulsively leap into sex. Olivia is confused about her feelings: Does she want Buzz or his policeman son, Frank? Elsewhere, Lizzie's eyes pop out when she sees a Springfielder she believed to be dead. Cassie makes a strangely morbid move to keep Tammy and Jonathan apart. Things end badly for the scheming Sandy. (As you read here first, Scott Bailey last airs as Sandy on Tuesday, March 14. Don't miss Bailey's exit interview on that same day in Soaps Q&A!)

The Young and the Restless
Drama erupts when Nick and Phyllis are caught in the adulterous act! Dru is desperate as the paternity secret puts her at odds with Lily and Neil. Sharon upsets Brad by blabbing about Victoria's secret tryst with J.T. Gloria is vulnerable to Victor.

Days of our Lives
It's Patrick to the rescue when Hope finds herself in danger. Chelsea's selfish attitude disappoints Bo. Lucas and Austin compete for the love of Carrie, who ends up in the hospital after she collapses at Salem's hot new nightclub, Dune. Lexie's infidelity is discovered when she goes out on the town with Tek. Marlena is caught in a deadly explosion, courtesy of the evil Dr. Alex North. St. Patrick's Day is celebrated at the Brady Pub. (Will Hope end up in Patrick's muscular arms? Read what his portrayer, Brody Hutzler, has to say about it right here.)

Passions
Theresa's plans for Ethan are foiled by a meaningful photograph. As she watches a couple in love, Simone feels melancholy about her own romantic future. Noah and Fancy make love while in danger. Chad and Ethan have heated words. Pilar berates Martin and Katherine for their canoodling. A mysterious hospital patient's facial bandages are unwrapped — and a familiar face is revealed. (Click here to watch an exclusive video preview of this superfun shocker!) Tabitha's little witchling, Endora, uses magic to prevent Miguel from coming between Kay and Fox. Watch for a scary omen after Sister Whitney has an erotic dream about Chad.

McKenzie Westmore, Passions and Brody Hutzler, Days of our Lives

BIG DAYS AHEAD FOR BRODY
As TVGuide.com reported first, Days of our Lives hustler Brody Hutzler plays a sexy masseur on NBC's Las Vegas tonight at 9 pm/ET. His Days character, Patrick, is also poised to split up supercouple Bo and Hope (Peter Reckell, Kristian Alfonso). Here's what Brody has to say about all his skirt-chasing shenanigans....

TVGuide.com: So you and Hope just happened to end up on the same hot, sultry Caribbean isle.
Brody Hutzler:
I need to get away, so I head off to a place I own on Morgan Island, but my house has accidentally been rented out to Hope. Whatever. So I get to my house and there she is. We have to stay there together.

TVGuide.com: Sounds like a classically cheesy Days coincidence.
Hutzler:
[Laughs] Hey, it could happen!

TVGuide.com: Can we expect tropical passion?
Hutzler:
It has to be done right so the fans will accept it. We recently had a scene where [the script called for] me to rub her back, and it was just creepy. Hope's kid had just died. It was right after Zach's funeral. So Kristian and I changed it to make more sense because the way the scene was written, it was too forward and sexual. "Hey, your kid just died. That's hot. Let's go!" I don't think that's right. Selfishly, I want my character to come off like a good guy, so we'll take it slow.

TVGuide.com: Your character on tonight's episode of Las Vegas is sketchier.
Hutzler:
I play at masseur at the Montecito. The rumor is that he gives all the girls "happy endings." So Vanessa Marcil has to go undercover to investigate me, and hilarity ensues.

Come back and read Wednesday's Soaps News for the scoop on Brody's big-screen plans!

FIRST LOOK: "SHUIS" REUNITED ON PASSIONS
As Passions star Galen Gering forewarned TVGuide.com, Sheridan (McKenzie Westmore) did not initially recognize Luis when the heiress found her not-so-dead lover all beaten up in Hawaii. Next week, Sheridan unwraps Luis' bandages in the hospital and gets an eyeful of his handsome (albeit bruised) face at long last! "We definitely had a laugh. It's totally a soap-opera moment," Westmore says. "This reunion is big for the fans because Sheridan and Luis haven't seen each other in seven months."

Video Sneak Peek: Want an early look at Sheridan's shocker? Watch an exclusive video preview right here.

FYI, Westmore anticipates that Passions "probably will recast" Sheridan when she goes on maternity leave. "The due date is June 1 right now," the mom-to-be shares. "With the ultrasounds they're doing, it may be a little sooner. It's a boy, and his name is Maddox. I looked it up online and it means champion and son of God. What a cool name with such a beautiful meaning behind it! I told my husband [musician Seven], and he loved it. But then my sister goes, 'Uh, you know that's Angelina Jolie's baby's name, don't you?' I didn't even realize that. Oh well! [Jolie] doesn't have a patent on that name."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BOLD CASTS DALLAS STAR
Now Patrick Duffy fans don't have to settle for watching his daily Dallas reruns on SoapNet. The artist formerly known as Bobby Ewing reported to the Bold and the Beautiful set this week to start playing the contract role of Brooke's father, Stephen Logan. (The part was previously played by Robert Pine.) Duffy — who first airs on April 18 — isn't the first big Dallas alum to do B&B. Last year Linda Gray (aka Sue Ellen) played Priscilla, the meddling mother of Sydney Penny's Samantha.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q HONCHO CHECKS BACK INTO HOSPITAL
Days of our Lives and General Hospital are now officially confirming what TVGuide.com told you last week: Soap vet John Ingle has left his gig as Days' Mickey Horton to reprise his signature role as GH's crusty patriarch, Edward Quartermaine.

"We were so fortunate that John Ingle was available to us at a time when we were desperate to fill story and were dealing with the departure of [Mickey's original portrayer] John Clarke," says Days chief Ken Corday. "We have loved having [Ingle] here, both professionally and personally, but also know a big part of his heart and history is with General Hospital. Our loss is certainly GH’s gain, and we wish John nothing but continued success. He will truly be missed!"

A GH rep says Ingle will be seen on the ABC sudser again sometime this spring. As for Days, the NBC soap has no plans to recast Mickey at this time.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AMC FANS SHUN SON OF KANE
In TVGuide.com's weekly Soaps Poll, we asked suds fans to weigh in on All My Children's tale of Erica Kane's "unaborted" son, Dr. Josh Madden. A whopping 70 percent rejected the rewriting of such a vital piece of AMC history. (Susan Lucci's Erica had TV's first legal abortion back in 1973. Only now it turns out the fetus was somehow stolen, not aborted!) The remaining 30 percent of voters said they love to hate Erica's long-lost demon spawn, who's played by sexy model Colin Egglesfield.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WHEEL CHAMP SETS BOLD RECORD
Bold and the Beautiful star Jack Wagner (Nick) was the big winner during Wheel of Fortune's Soap Stars Week. Click here for TVGuide.com's full report on the star-studded showdown.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AS MARTHA'S WORLD TURNS
Is there room for two queen bees on All My Children? Martha Stewart appears in the March 28 episode as a guest on "New Beginnings," the fictional talk-show-within-a-soap hosted by Erica Kane. Of course, it won't be the first time Stewart and Susan Lucci have done daytime TV together. La Lucci was among the domestic goddess' inaugural guests when Martha debuted last fall. To refresh your memory, here's a lovely photo.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LIGHT STAR CAST ON SVU
You read here first that Guiding Light's Scott Bailey last airs as the spooky Sandy Foster on Tuesday, March 14. The handsome rascal won't stay off your TV screen for long, though. He guest-stars as a murder suspect on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit in the March 21 episode. "I play a rich, cocky jackass yet again," Bailey tells TVGuide.com with a laugh. "I think I must be typecast in that role! So I'm a bastard and [SVU detectives] Ice T and Chris Meloni shake me down. They're tough guys on the show, but they were actually very nice to me in real life." For much more from Bailey, read his Soaps Q&A next week.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ATWT TEEN WANTS HER MTV
No way! As the World Turns actress Alexandra Chando (Maddie) will appear on one of my fave reality-TV guilty pleasures, MTV's True Life. Chando's episode, entitled True Life: I'm Getting My Big Break, will offer an inside look at what it's like to be a teen soap starlet. OK, so this installment doesn't sound quite as temptingly salacious as others — like True Life: I'm a Slut or True Life: I'm Obese — but we should still tune in and support a daytime girl. (Although it was originally slated to air March 15, MTV has just rescheduled this episode to air sometime in May.)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MORE SCORPIO STING ON GH
Thanks to all the returning favorites from its '80s heyday, General Hospital enjoyed a sweet ratings boost during February sweeps. Naturally, the ABC sudser is hatching plans for fans to see much more of Tristan Rogers (Robert Scorpio) and Emma Samms (Holly Sutton). As GH co-head writer Bob Guza recently told the New York Times, "I'm going to put Luke, Robert and Holly all in a sleeping bag on a mountain. One sleeping bag! Not coincidentally, [this will happen during] May sweeps."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

RESTLESS MAN TOPS HOT LIST
Young and the Restless heartthrob Don Diamont (Brad) ranks No. 1 on the "100 Sexiest Soap Hunks of All Time" list compiled by the Shrine to the Soap Hunks (www.soaphunks.net). Chock-full of drool-worthy eye candy, this frothy fan site rates suds actors based on face, body, overall sex appeal and how many years they've worked in daytime. (It's the only place in showbiz where age is actually an advantage!) While the judges' scoring is sometimes questionable — Days of our Lives' Kevin Spirtas (Craig) is hotter than Jensen Ackles (ex-Eric)?! — this soapy shrine is still my preferred place of worship.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SOAP SHORTS
General Hospital's Tyler Christopher (Nikolas) has been cast on a new prime-time soap.... GH is seeking a young hottie to play Lulu's (Julie Marie Berman) love interest.... GRIN AND BEAR IT

Colleen Zenk-Pinter and Diana the bear, As the World Turns

CBS' As the World Turns marks 50 years on daytime television next month. I'm not April foolin' you! So fire up your FauxVo because ATWT will celebrate its golden anniversary with two special episodes: On Friday, March 31, the residents of Oakdale are reimagined as characters from classic TV shows like I Dream of Jeannie and The Beverly Hillbillies. On Monday, April 3, seven of the soap's divas board a chartered bus for a road trip. Their sentimental journey includes lotsa vintage ATWT clips and even some action adventure. "I stand up to an 8-foot-tall, 350-pound black bear!" Colleen Zenk-Pinter (Barbara) enthuses to TVGuide.com. "It was so much fun. It really was."

Having screened a preview tape, this suds fan can vouch for Pinter's point. Between the bear battle and the sight of 87-year-old Helen Wagner (Nancy) fleeing from a flaming bus, this is can't-miss stuff. Who knew Nancy — an ATWT staple since its 1956 debut — could still run that fast?!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

KNOTS STAR STILL RESTLESS
Ever since The Young and the Restless wrapped the Tom Fisher murder case, Ted Shackelford — aka Genoa City prosecutor Will Bardwell — has been MIA. No worries, though. The Knots Landing grad returns when Will is needed to tackle legal issues that arise from Jabot Cosmetics selling tainted moisturizer.

Side note: Since Y&R and The Bold and the Beautiful both tape at L.A.'s CBS Television City, Shackelford is sure to run into Patrick Duffy, who played his brother on Dallas. It's Gary and Bobby, together again! (Just to refresh your memory, Duffy has been cast as Brooke's father on B&B.)

SOAP STUDY RAISES QUESTIONS
Do soap operas really rot your brain like our parents warned us? A study published in the Southern Medical Journal reveals that elderly female soap fans ranked poorly in tests of memory, attention and mental quickness. However, that doesn't mean these viewers' love of daytime TV caused their cognitive decline; it might only be a symptom. Researchers suspect that seniors whose minds are already impaired may just find it easier to watch shows that involve "parasocial relationships," meaning that viewers at home feel a daily emotional connection to the people on screen.

Hmm... well, thanks to my job, I spend several hours a day watching my soaps, and this reporter's mind remains razor sharp and attentive, thank you very much. That said, I will concede that I feel emotionally connected to Days of our Lives' Austin Peck — especially whenever he takes off his shirt, which is often, god love him. Maybe those scientists should quit scrutinizing poor little old ladies and study Austin's pecs instead! I'm just saying.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THIS SOAP STAR IS A SEXY BEAST
All My Children's Jacob Young (J.R. Chandler) is the latest New York soap star with plans to moonlight on Broadway. He starts a 10-week run on May 9 in the stage production of Disney's Beauty and the Beast. His incandescent role? Lumiere, the French candlestick who roots for his beastly boss to win Belle's heart.

"I'll have to learn to work with pyrotechnics — actual fire — and act with my hands above my head the whole time," Young tells TVGuide.com with a laugh. "It'll be challenging. I'll also be doing AMC and the play simultaneously, which means a grueling schedule. You might say I'm burning the candle at both ends!"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

LILY'S EX BACK ON WORLD TURNS
As the World Turns fans, our wish is granted! Italian stallion Paolo Seganti — who played Lily's ex-husband, Damian Grimaldi — reports back to work on the CBS soap's set in mid-April. That means Damian will return to Oakdale just in time for May sweeps.

"Part of what interested me in coming back is that my son Luke (Van Hansis) is gay," Seganti tells TVGuide.com. "This story line is so different, and that's cool."

Between ATWT stints, Seganti has done film work in Europe and spent quality time with his family on their 20-acre property in Tuscany. "Martha Byrne (Lily) and I are still best buddies. She's always asking me to come back, and one day I got a call from [executive producer] Chris Goutman," he says. "I could stay for three months or three years. Everything is really up in the air right now."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ATWT CROSSES OFF LIST
Scoop! There's an As the World Turns audition script floating around that features a scene between Lucy Montgomery and her devious daddy, Craig. Oh sure, the script calls them "Lauren" and "James," but since she calls him "Daddy" and he calls her "Lullabye" and "Sweetness" — Craig's pet names for his daughter — this soap spy is not fooled.

So is ATWT replacing pretty Peyton List, the ex-Lucy who's off seeking her fortune in prime-time TV? And might Hunt Block return as currently incarcerated Craig? "We are recasting Lucy and you can look for her sometime this summer," the show's rep confirms to TVGuide.com. "There are no plans for Craig at this time."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

GH, Y&R CUT DEAD WOOD
Two of daytime's most bland, boring characters have been cut from their soaps. General Hospital's Matt Marraccini — who plays policeboy Jesse — exits Port Charles in early April. And The Young and the Restless has axed Rachel Kimsey, the third actress to play Kay Chancellor's granddaughter, Mac. Neither role is being recast. Hey, it's nothing personal against the actors, but every time they appear on screen, I just... zzzzzzz... huh? Wait, what was I saying?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PASSIONS CASTING UPDATE
TVGuide.com reported exclusively on Friday that soap vet Michael Sabatino will join Passions for 10 episodes as "a sleazy guy." Dying to know who? OK, he's playing J.T. Cornell, the tabloid reporter who got Ethan's paternity scoop from those beeyotches Gwen and Rebecca years ago. Look for Theresa to have an informative meeting with J.T. in Rome on May 18.

In case you're wondering, this J.T. Cornell guy is no relation to blonde bombshell Lydia Cornell, who starred in the '80s sitcom Too Close for Comfort. Oh, you weren't wondering that? Um, maybe it's just me.

DARK SHADOWS MAVEN MOURNED

Producer-director Dan Curtis passed away on Monday from brain cancer. He was 78. Although he helmed such acclaimed miniseries as The Winds of War and War and Remembrance, Curtis was most beloved for dreaming up Dark Shadows the cult supernatural sudser that ran on ABC from 1966 to 1971.

In a daytime first, DS told soapy tales of vampires, witches, werewolves, ghosts and more. Yeah, this show was famous for its funny gaffes — the harried actors often flubbed their lines on live TV — but fans adored it for its originality, warts and all. My fave Collinwood stories involved Angelique (Lara Parker), the jilted witch who condemned Barnabas Collins (Jonathan Frid) to dwell in misery as a broody vampire.

"When I heard of Dan Curtis' death, I was saddened in a very personal way," Ms. Parker tells TVGuide.com. "He gave me the best role of my life. Dan elevated the horror genre to a higher plane: Gothic romance. He understood that true horror takes place not in the depiction of blood and gore but in the dark side of the imagination.

"Dan was in many ways a tortured person and he endured many tragedies," she adds, "but he had that brashly ambitious and terrifyingly antagonistic nature that made him a great visionary, and he took television to its highest artistic level. All of us who knew him and worked with him were fortunate."

HOSPITAL'S HEROINE DIES
In other sad news, legendary soap producer Gloria Monty passed away on Thursday from cancer in Rancho Mirage, Calif. Back in 1978, Monty took over as General Hospital's executive producer when the ABC sudser's ratings were considered poor and cancellation was a very real threat. During her memorable tenure, this tough, ambitious auteur made GH No. 1 by stepping up its sluggish pace, rustling up cash to spruce up shabby sets and introducing fan-fave supercouples like Luke and Laura, Frisco and Felicia and Robert and Holly.

"Gloria Monty transformed soap-opera viewing from a housewives' pastime to the cool thing to do," says Jane Elliot (Tracy). "As I was a beneficiary of that transformation, I will be eternally grateful and will miss her terribly. I can’t wait to see what she does with heaven."

Monty produced GH from 1978-87 and again from 1991-92. Before that phenomenon, she began her career directing soaps like CBS's The First Hundred Years and The Secret Storm in the '50s and '60s. While directing NBC's short-lived Bright Promise, she first worked with Anthony Geary, Susan Brown and David Lewis, who all went on to long careers as beloved GH characters, thanks to her.

With a heavy heart, this daytime devotee tips his hat to Ms. Gloria Monty. She's one of the greatest there ever was.

MERRY WIDOW SEES THE LIGHT
This week TVGuide.com reported that Guiding Light is killing off Ross Marler, who has been MIA in Springfield since Jerry ver Dorn jumped to One Life to Live last fall. This classic character's off-screen death is a downer indeed, but there is an upside: Liz Keifer — who plays Ross' redheaded wife, Blake — gets sprung from story-line limbo.

"This opens the door for Blake to be a free agent again," Keifer tells TVGuide.com. "She has been paired with Ross for 14 years. We've been known as 'Bloss' for a long time! Jerry and I had so much fun playing together. He's such a professional; I learned so much from him. Of course I'm sad that's over, but I prefer confronting the loss of Ross than continuing to pretend he's still here and everything's fine."

The best part of soap widowhood? "I've never had a story that was about me," Keifer laughs. "Next Wednesday I take over Ross' legacy and run for mayor against Jeffrey O'Neill (Bradley Cole). Blake is a sharp cookie with a strong background in business and politics. It's time she got her brain back."

Hopefully she'll also return to her bad-girl roots. "You walk into a room and it's hard to count how many men Blake has slept with," the actress cracks. "I hope the show digs up her past."

Too bad Mrs. Marler can't quite bury the past. "There's no coffin at the memorial service because the bodies in Ross' plane crash were burned beyond recognition," Keifer teases. "There's a mystery surrounding the circumstances of his death. I find out that not only is Ross dead, but he may have been having an affair with his assistant. My grief knows no bounds!"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WORLD TURNS: WHO'S BACK?
Paolo Seganti (Damian) may not be the only hunk coming back to As the World Turns. Industry buzz has it Paul Leyden is returning to Oakdale as Aussie scoundrel Simon Frasier. "It's all rumor at the moment," ATWT's rep tells TVGuide.com. "There is no confirmation." Stay tuned....

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

STORK NEWS FOR GH DIVA
Former General Hospital actress Kari Wuhrer (ex-Reese) has given birth to a daughter. "She weighed in at a healthy 8 lbs., 10 ounces," states a posting on Wuhrer's official website. "The proud parents will be announcing the baby's name shortly." As previously reported, Wuhrer is waging a pregnancy-discrimination lawsuit against GH, alleging she was cut from the ABC soap's cast due to her impending maternity.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PASSIONS STAR IN HER PRIME TIME
Passions schemer Kim Johnston Ulrich — aka "Poison Ivy" — has booked a guest gig in the Fox pilot Primary, which stars Ron Livingston. "It's about hostage negotiators who deal with crises," Ulrich tells TVGuide.com. "I play a congressman's wife. I'm a pretty bitchy mother whose son is up to no good. Typecasting! Go figure. This role I can do, trust me."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MISSING DAYS DAME FOUND
When Arianne Zuker (Nicole) left Days of our Lives in January, the NBC sudser chose not to explain her absence. On Monday viewers finally found out what the heck happened to Nicole! She's gone to work for Austin's company in Los Angeles. "I didn't want her anyway," Austin told Lucas. "She fell in love with some soap-opera actor and wants to get married and have a baby."

Of course, that's a cute nod to Zuker's real-life husband, Kyle Lowder (ex-Brady, Days). The couple live in L.A., where they're both pursuing work in prime-time TV and films. And before you all start speculating, Days wasn't dropping any hints with that line about having a baby. The show's rep tells TVGuide.com that Zuker is not pregnant.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DEIDRE'S DREAM HOUSE FOR SALE
Are you a wealthy fan of Days of our Lives? Well, first of all, call me! Secondly, you should know that Deidre Hall's luxe Bel-Air pad is currently for sale, listed at just under $8.5 million. Per the Los Angeles Times, the amenities of Hall's walled and gated half-acre compound include six bedrooms, a playroom and 11 bathrooms. Oh, there's also a pool, a detached guest house and a sports court. Hall and her husband, writer-producer Steve Sohmer, purchased the 6,800-square-foot estate in 1992 from Bob Newhart for around $3 million. In other news, this reporter can't even afford a lousy one-bedroom condo in the Valley. But I'm not bitter, I swear.

Eva La Rue and Ingo Rademacher, General Hospital

INGO CHECKS OUT OF HOSPITAL
Scoop! Ingo Rademacher will definitely leave General Hospital when his contract expires in May. What's more, TVGuide.com has learned that the role of Jax is being recast. The ABC sudser has sent out a casting call for "Hugo," a handsome bloke in his thirties who speaks with an Australian accent. An extremely reliable source tells me, "Hugo, Schmugo. It's Jax."

The popular Rademacher joined GH in 1996 as Aussie businessman Jasper "Jax" Jacks and romanced several leading ladies, most memorably Vanessa Marcil's Brenda. He briefly left in 2000 to star on Aaron Spelling's blink-and-you-missed-it prime-time soap Titans, and returned to GH the following year. The show's rep had no comment on Ingo's latest departure.

EVA LA RUE RATES HUNKS
Set your FauxVo! All My Children diva Eva La Rue (ex-Maria) will host TV Guide Channel's TV Hunks & Babes special this Sunday at 8 pm/ET.

"The No. 1 spots went to Patrick Dempsey from Grey's Anatomy and Evangeline Lilly from Lost," La Rue reveals to TVGuide.com. "And then there's so many daytime soap hunks and babes on this special who have moved on to nighttime. Josh Duhamel, Vanessa Marcil, Shemar Moore, Julian McMahon...."

What about Eva herself? She recently left AMC and landed a regular gig on CSI: Miami as sexpot scientist Natalia Boa Vista. Shouldn't she be listed as one of TV's hottest babes? "I know! Who do you have to sleep with to be on this show, anyhow?" La Rue laughs. "At least I got to host it, so I feel included somewhat, and that's good."

Keep on reading for more Eva La Rue news!

"I think the twins are supposed to be 12 or 13 now."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ROCK ON, DR. DRAKE
Good news! General Hospital's resident rocker Rick Springfield (Noah) will be the opening act at the Daytime Emmys on April 28. "I'll be doing a medley of hits," he tells TVGuide.com. "'Jessie's Girl' will be in there for sure. I'm psyched. Going on these shows is a nice way of saying, 'I'm not dead!'" I like a rock star with a sense of humor.

DYNASTY REUNION DISH

Gordon Thomson, Dynasty

Are you as psyched as I am for Dynasty Reunion: Catfights & Caviar, which airs May 2 on CBS? Just like the Dallas and Knots Landing reunions, this one gathers cast members from Aaron Spelling's nighttime soap to reminisce about their sudsy adventures in the '80s. In search of scoopage, TVGuide.com rang up Gordon Thomson, who played Dynasty devil Adam Carrington, in addition to his daytime gigs on Ryan's Hope, Santa Barbara and Sunset Beach. This cheeky, candid Canadian did not disappoint!

TVGuide.com: How's your TV mother, Joan Collins?
Gordon Thomson:
I've known Joan on and off for 24 years and I've never seen her happier. She's in great form. [Collins' fifth husband] Percy Gibson is the best thing that ever happened to her. It's a great match. They're frisky and lovely together. They're mutually nuts about each other.

TVGuide.com: I love her. But who doesn't, right?
Thomson:
Oh, the list is a long one! [Chuckles] She can be very rude in public. She's very shy and very self-protective. People in stores and airline ticket counters have the most awful stories that could curl your hair. She was a huge success, but she was not happy inside, as a woman, during [her marriage to Peter Holm in the '80s]. Now she is very happy inside. It's true! Linda and Joan both looked alive and marvelous at the reunion. I've never seen Joan so positive, ever. I was really, really impressed by how everybody seems to have thrived.

TVGuide: Who will we see at the reunion?
Thomson:
The big news was that John Forsythe was there. He has never done a reunion show. It was John, Joan Collins (Alexis), Linda Evans (Krystle), Al Corley (Gay Steven No. 1), Pamela Sue Martin (Fallon No. 1), Catherine Oxenberg (Amanda) and myself. Just the seven of us.

TVGuide: Emma Samms — the other Fallon — recently returned to General Hospital. Why isn't she included in this show?
Thomson:
I don't know! I do know that their budget was small. I know that put off John James and Diahann Carroll (Dominique). The big lack for me is J.J. because he started off as Jeff Colby in the pilot and stayed right through. They spun off The Colbys with his character, and then he came back to Dynasty for the last season with Emma Samms. He was integral to the success of the show. I'm sure he was appalled at the money [the reunion's producers] were offering. I was appalled, too, but I couldn't afford to say no — and he can! [Laughs]

TVGuide: You were fabulously wicked as Adam. You raped, you connived.... Is there anything rotten you didn't do on Dynasty?
Thomson:
In the early days, when Adam was really a p----k and trying to steal Blake's company, I think it would have been sensational if he could've taken advantage of Krystle. But Blake and Krystle were embedded in the public's mind — and also in Aaron Spelling's mind — as the perfect loving couple. So that was not to be tampered with. Unfortunately, Krystle was the only female on the set for a long time who I wasn't related to! Before they learned they were brother and sister, Adam and Fallon were turned on by each other. We'll show a clip of Pamela Sue Martin giving me a roundhouse slap because Fallon was so disgusted.

TVGuide: Well, no doubt this will be a huge treat for your fans.
Thomson:
I was not looking forward to it, but I ended up having a very good time. Reunion shows are always full of clips that are over 20 years old and nobody likes to be reminded that time is passing. That's not nice. Actors are all vain and I'm as narcissistic as anybody. [Laughs] Dynasty also hasn't yielded any money for the actors in almost 15 years. Believe me, if there was a nickel to be found, Joan, who is very good at it, would find it. I don't say that in a nasty way, seriously. She was taught by unpleasant experience to take care of herself, and there's sadly no money to be found.

TVGuide: You mean with all these years of reruns — Dynasty's currently airing in heavy rotation on SoapNet — the cast gets zilch?
Thomson:
Thank you!

MISSING CHILDREN ALERT
Our Entertainment News guy Matt Webb Mitovich spotted Jeff Branson (Jonathan, All My Children) taping on location outside New York's Madison Square Garden on Tuesday afternoon. In the scene, Matt told me, Jonathan was handing out flyers desperately trying to find Lily, who's played by Daytime Emmy nominee Leven Rambin. Branson was heard shouting, "She doesn't like the color red!" Sounds like Jonathan's autistic girlfriend will go missing sometime during AMC's May-sweeps period. Scoop!

PASSIONS RECASTS ETHAN
Harmony hottie Eric Martsolf has taken a week off work at Passions to help wife Lisa with their newborn twin sons. For a first look at Eric and Lisa's babies, click here!

During Eric's break, the NBC sudser temporarily recast his front-burner character, Ethan Winthrop. Look for Port Charles grad Rib Hillis — he played Dr. Jake Marshak — to step in as Ethan for four episodes starting on May 25.

"I love coming back to daytime TV," Hillis tells TVGuide.com. "There's nothing like it. Ethan is an interesting guy to play. But I didn't kiss anyone or take off my shirt once!"

Bummer. FYI: Those who wanna see more of Rib should pick up the May issue of Out magazine. The 35-year-old male model poses tastefully nude in a stunning Yves Saint Laurent fashion spread by top photographer Tony Duran. Hillis' toddler son Dane also appears in the layout: He's the cute little blonde boy riding in a leather satchel. Awww...

COMING SOON: SOAPY NEW BLOGS!
Brace yourselves for a shocking revelation, suds fans: You are reading Daniel R. Coleridge's final Soaps News column.

Don't worry, this is a good thing. On Tuesday, April 18, Soaps News will become a blog. That means that instead of just doing twice-weekly updates on Wednesdays and Fridays, this TVGuide.com reporter will be able to post breaking news and hot soap scoops as often as I please!

But wait, it gets better. TVGuide.com will also be introducing another new blog called — what else? — Daniel's Dish. I'll rant and rave about my soaps and share all sorts of sassy stories, gossip and musings in general. And you'll be able to talk back, just like our readers do over at The Watercooler.

This is gonna be blogging good fun!

(EDIT: The blogs in THE WATERCOOLER are harder to do then the old format, I don't know if I will continue to them. If SOAP follows the same format I may not be doing these either. I will see....Dade)

GH SCORPIO UPDATE
Save these dates, General Hospital fans: Tristan Rogers resurfaces as Robert Scorpio this Thursday, April 13. Dynasty]/I\ diva Emma Samms pops up again as his ex-squeeze Holly Sutton on May 1. And Finola Hughes returns as the elusive Anna Devane Scorpio on May 12.

By the way, [I]GH
is now officially confirming Finola's comeback, which TVGuide.com first reported last week — even if a certain other soapy site did post a "Finola Returns!" report right after mine went online, lamely trying to pass off my scoop as their own. But I digress....

GH says we should expect Anna literally to "drop in" while Luke and Robert are on the run from the law during another trip to the fictional Maarkam Islands.

"I am very excited to be reprising the role of Anna and reuniting with my General Hospital family," Hughes said in a cheeky statement. "My return has to do with Kimberly McCullough (Robin Scorpio) convincing me to come back to Port Charles... and whining a lot.”

Scoop! Rosie Tells TVGuide.com Her View on Star Jones

As I mentioned in my previous posting, I just came from the backstage press room at the 33rd-annual Daytime Emmy Awards. On Sunday, you'll get my full backstage report, but I've got something that's way too juicy to wait until then: Rosie O'Donnell's first comments about replacing Meredith Vieira on The View and her response to rumors that Star Jones is on her way out.

By the way, TVGuide.com readers, you will no doubt read and hear these Rosie quotes in many other media outlets, but just know that she was talking to yours truly. None of the other reporters in that press room had the cajones to ask these questions! Fortunately, Rosie was a really good sport.

TVGuide.com: It seems like your life has changed over the years since you did The Rosie O'Donnell Show. There was a period there where you were very... cranky. To put it politely...
Rosie O'Donnell:
[Laughs] That's a very good choice of words to not offend me, yet make your point! I agree, I was cranky for awhile.

TVGuide.com: I'm just wondering if you've mellowed out a little bit, if you're gonna be a little sunnier for daytime, now that you're coming back to it.
O'Donnell:
Oh honey, you know, I can just say, even though Tom Cruise doesn't believe in them, antidepressants do work. [Reporters explode into laughter.] You know, I did six years on that show and when I was a young kid, I used to think, "Boy, if I was ever rich and famous, I'd have a magic wand and I could fix everything." Then come the realization, "Oh my God, there's no magic wand and there are too many things to fix." And it was overwhelmingly sad for me. And I think Columbine marked the beginning of the end, emotionally. I felt spiritually defeated and deflated, and as if I had climbed to the top of Mount Everest and found up there only a lack of oxygen.

So I needed to refuel myself to remind myself why I become a performer to begin with, and to get back in touch with who I was as a person, and surround myself with my family and kids. I always call it my four-year celebrity detox. And Barbara's been a friend since the beginning of my career and she shows up at everything that I've ever [done]. When she asked me, I said yes and I'll tell you the reason now. And she'll be angry at me, but no woman would be successful in television in any capacity if it hadn't been for Barbara Walters. She is a feminist superhero and she is a woman that all women in the entertainment industry look up to. If she asked me to do anything, I would say yes. Little does she know. Thankfully, she asked me to do The View and not her laundry. I probably would have done that, too.

TVGuide.com: There's been buzz ever since your View news broke that you're not a big fan of Star Jones and that there's gonna be tension and that Star's gonna leave the show as a result of you coming on. I just would like to give you an opportunity to say whatever you would like to say about that.
O'Donnell:
You know, she's been a member of the View family from the beginning and she's a welcome member as long as she wants to be there. I have a tremendous amount of respect for her intellect. She's an amazingly intelligent woman. She did beautifully on Larry King last week when she subbed for him, and I think that, you know, she's got a plethora of opportunities, including the one that she currently has. She and I have traded barbs on The View for as long as it's been on the air. She will go toe to toe with me, and that's what makes the show exciting and fun. I look forward to arguing with her starting in September.

25 Things You Didn't Know About Soaps
Did you know that The Young and the Restless's Genoa City, Wisconsin, is a real place? It's not just one of those fictional, nonspecific soap locales like Salem, Springfield, Harmony or Wisteria Lane. Would it kill them to tell us what state Susan, Lynette and Bree live in? Would it?!

Anyhoo. I explore plenty of such fascinating sudsy secrets as a guest commentator in the new TV Guide Channel show 25 Things You Didn't Know About Soaps. Just in case you missed last Sunday's debut, here's when it reruns (all times Eastern):

Wednesday, April 26 10 pm and 1 am
Thursday, April 27 3 pm
Saturday, April 29 7 pm

Emmy's Verdict: GH and Y&R Make Stars Look Hottest
Anyone who works on camera in showbiz knows it's crucial to be nice to your hair and makeup people. They can make or break you, honey!

Soap beauticians were among the behind-the-scenes pros who were lauded at this weekend's Creative Arts Daytime Emmys, held simultaneously on both coasts. (Meredith Vieira hosted the New York ceremony, while the TV Guide Channel's own John Henson was the host in Hollywood.) General Hospital won hairstyling honors, while The Young and the Restless won for makeup. That seems only right since Y&R's story lines revolve around the cutthroat cosmetics industry.

In other glamour-related kudos, The Bold and the Beautiful - the continuing saga of L.A. fashionistas - scored the Emmy for costume design. As the World Turns won for set design.

Happily, GH's famed Mark Teschner finally won for best casting director. He's been nominated four times previously without a win, which is a sin.

Y&R scored Emmys for musical direction as well as the best original song, "Sunshine," which viewers heard during a special montage about Daniel (Michael Graziadei) last July.

On the technical side, ATWT won for multiple camera editing and tied with B&B for lighting direction. Y&R scored for technical direction/electronic camera/video control and Passions won for sound mixing.

Congrats to all the newly anointed Daytime Emmy winners! If you're interested in the nonsoap recipients, they're listed here.

Sean's Not So Young, But She's Restless!

This TVGuide.com reporter is a soap-opera addict and I want MyNetworkTV. As previously reported, the new Fox-owned broadcast channel will debut Sept. 5 with a bunch of prime-time serials inspired by the popular Latin American telenovelas. They'll run five nights a week with 65 episodes apiece. Now here's lots of sudsy new info for you...

First up, MyNetworkTV gives us the Mafia melodrama Desire weeknights at 8 pm/ET. Then at 9 pm/ET, it's Secret Obsessions, starring 10 looker Bo Derek as a fashionista with issues.

After those two serials run their course, you'll see Maria Conchita Alonso, Dayanara Torres and Sean Young headlining three new nighttime sudsers — A Dangerous Love, Watch Over Me and Art of Betrayal.

In A Dangerous Love, Alonso — who recently guest-starred as Eva Longoria's mother on Desperate Housewives — is the feisty matriarch of one of two feuding families. A pair of young lovers are caught in the middle and it's all very Romeo + Juliet.

In Watch Over Me, Torres — the former Ms. Universe who was married to Marc Anthony before J.Lo — is a woman embroiled in a love triangle with her mogul husband and their hunky bodyguard.

But I'm the most amped up about Sean Young in Art of Betrayal. The Hollywood bad girl, now 46, plays Blythe, a mother of two sons whose husband dumps her for a rich lady. She steps back into his life 20 years later with vengeance on her twisted mind. "I frame him for murder, take over his wife's business and then take over their estate, all of which I get away with," Young dished on the red carpet at the Daytime Emmys. "It's a woman scorned getting revenge and it's really fun. I am the woman scorned! Oh, it's great."

As if I'm not busy enough with my daytime sudsers, I'll have all this juicy nighttime naughtiness to watch five nights a week? Clearly, my TiVo will be working overtime this fall.

Two Axed Ladies Return to Restless
Young and the Restless fans can expect a visit from Camryn Grimes (Cassie) on May 23 and 24. The dearly-departed teenager comes to her sleeping stepfather, Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow), in a meaningful dream that causes him to rethink some of his recent life decisions.

Camryn just lost outstanding-younger-actress honors to Jennifer Landon (Gwen, As the World Turns) at the 33rd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards. She'll always be a winner in my book, though!

In other news, Rachel Kimsey — who was recently cut from Y&R's cast — is back on-screen May 11 and last airs on May 17. The third actress to play Kay Chancellor's granddaughter, Mackenzie Browning, says some heartfelt goodbyes and officially takes a powder from Genoa City.

P.S. Can you believe Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) was shot again this week on Y&R? Girlfriend got carjacked. Nikki was last gunned down back in 1997, when she was briefly married to her gynecologist, Dr. Joshua Landers. (Eww!) Joshua's psychotic ex-wife, Veronica, finagled her crazy ass a job as Nikki's maid and ended up shooting Nikki four times at close range. Naturally, Nikki survived and made a full recovery in record time. No worries, she'll survive this, too. Nikki is Genoa City's own Teflon socialite!

Scoop! Fired AMC Hottie Moves to Days of our Lives
Scoop! Days of our Lives has cast British looker James Scott (ex-Ethan Ramsey Cambias, All My Children) in a contract role. I told you another soap would snap him up soon.

"James Scott joins our talented cast in the role of EJ Wells, a worldly and debonair bachelor and renowned race-car driver with an unusual curiosity about Salem and its residents," Days' executive producer Ken Corday told TVGuide.com via e-mail. "We are delighted to have a seasoned professional such as James — his resume on both U.S. and U.K. television resonates his success. EJ debuts on air May 30 and is in town to stay."

Earlier this year, AMC made the utterly gormless decision to write Scott off the show with a very unhappy ending in February Sweeps. Poor Ethan — who was planning to marry Simone (Terri Ivens) — suffered fatal injuries during the Mardi Gras Ball explosion. It was a slap in the faces of Ethan/Simone fans, who had seen both characters battered by love before finding the real thing (and great on-screen chemistry) with each other. Worse yet, Ethan died without even making peace with his estranged father, Zach (Thorsten Kaye). That was not right.

Anyway, AMC's loss is Days' gain. If you're unfamiliar with the magnificence that is James Scott, see the adorable pix on his personal website. Yeah, I'm gushing a bit, but this gent's well worth it.

Matt Ashford Hopes Missy Reeves Won't Leave Days of our Lives
You've all heard the buzz that popular Days of our Lives star Melissa Reeves (Jennifer) will exit the NBC sudser when her contract expires this summer. Reeves reportedly wants to relocate to Nashville with her country-crooner hubby Scott Reeves (ex-Ryan, The Young and the Restless) and their two young children, Emily and Larry. It's also been said that Reeves is unhappy with her current Days story line, which recently had Jennifer bedding ex-BF Frankie (Billy Warlock) within a month of her beloved spouse Jack's second presumed death.

Is everyone still with me? OK.

Cut to the red carpet at last weekend's 33rd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards, where this TVGuide.com reporter spotted Matthew Ashford (Jack) and tried to suss out what the heck's going on. Here's what I was able to get out of the amiable Ashford in our Q&A.

TVGuide.com: So you'll next appear on Days on May 15. Is Jack a daydream or a ghostly apparition again?
Matthew Ashford:
I'm not a ghost. I'm actually in a hospital holding up my hospital bracelet that says John Doe. [Ashford shows me the bracelet, which he's worn to the Emmys just for laughs.] I won't tell the doctor my name because I don't want him calling my wife. I'm just waiting to die and he says, "No, don't do it! You've got a family!" Finally, I go, "You're right!"

TVGuide.com: Presumably Jack's someplace outside of Salem?
Ashford:
I'm in some unknown town. And whatever unknown disease my character has is this great unknown disease that they can't ascribe any [symptoms] to.

TVGuide.com: Are you sad about Missy's decision to leave at the end of her contract? It's no secret. The word is out now.
Ashford:
Yeah, it seems to be. I'm always hopeful that something will turn around because I love her and I love working with her. Right now, we've got a great story coming up within the summer with Stephen Nichols and Mary Beth Evans coming back as Kayla and my brother Steve. Missy's a big part of that story, too. I don't know... I know it'll be good for her one way or the other. Whatever she does, Missy's a great person.

TVGuide.com: Rumor has it that Jack and Jen will go off into the sunset together. A happy ending, but not for you, since it'd mean you're not working!
Ashford:
That wouldn't be so hot for me. That would concern me. [Chuckles] I would hope they'd give me some opportunities to meet some other women. There's a lot of great characters on the show and I think Jack would be great with any of them. Whatever happens, I hope it opens up opportunities for me because I love this show and I think fans would like to see Jack progress one way or the other.

"It is the show's precedent to not discuss contract negotiations," a Days rep said when asked about Reeves' impending exit. "There is so much incredible story coming this spring, summer and fall that it is ridiculously premature to discuss Melissa Reeves' departure. Fans will feel very gratified and fulfilled as the Jennifer and Frankie story continues to unfold. They should not wish time away!"

Ex-AMC Star in Desperate Housewives Finale!

At long last, there's some good news to report about John Callahan (ex-Edmund, All My Children).

Eva La Rue's former husband — who was killed off AMC early last year — will appear in the second season finale of Desperate Housewives. A rep for the hit nighttime sudser tells TVGuide.com that Callahan will play Stan, a golf instructor who tees off with the naughty Gabrielle Solis (Eva Longoria).

The two-hour Housewives finale airs May 21 at 9 pm/ET on ABC.

Dynasty Star Cast as Erica Kane's Ex on AMC
I guess this is my lucky week for All My Children scoopage, soap fans! The ABC sudser confirms that John James — the handsome '80s star who played Jeff Colby on Dynasty and The Colbys — has been cast as the new Dr. Jeff Martin. He first airs June 13, and, yes, it's a contract role.

You knew it was only a matter of time before this much-discussed ex of Erica Kane's (Susan Lucci) made an appearance in Pine Valley. Erica had TV's first legal abortion back in 1973 during her "starter marriage" to Jeff. Thanks to a controversial stroke of revisionist history by AMC's head writer, Megan McTavish, viewers recently learned that the fetus was stolen, not aborted. So now it's time for Jeff to meet his long-lost offspring, Dr. Josh Madden, who is played by sexy model Colin Egglesfield.

This AMC gig isn't John James' first daytime role. Before Dynasty, he was Tom "Junior" Bergman on Search for Tomorrow from 1976 to 1979. More recently he gave us the willies as Rick Decker, a serial-killing doctor, on As the World Turns from 2003 to 2004.

According to James' Dynasty costar Gordon Thomson, the artist formerly known as Jeff Colby opted out of this month's Dynasty Reunion: Catfights & Caviar because the proposed paycheck was "appalling." Other series regulars like Heather Locklear and Diahann Carroll apparently stayed away for the same reason.

All My Children Casting Alert!
Scoop! TVGuide.com has learned that All My Children is casting about for a new character named Annie McDermott. In an audition script, Annie is described as a 28-year-old woman who's "beautiful, fun-loving and caught in the mess of her life." Specifically, she has run away from her dangerous husband with a young daughter, Emma, in tow.

The script features a confrontational scene between Annie and Ryan Lavery (Cameron Mathison). Annie and Emma are staying in Pine Valley with Ryan, who is quizzing an evasive Annie about her past.

An AMC rep had no comment for this story. However, I sure have one! This part is practically screaming for Erin Hershey Presley, who played spunky heroine Alison Barrington on Port Charles from 2000-2003. She's gorgeous, she's the perfect age (29), she's a consummate soap pro and she needs work! Plus, I just screen tested Erin and Cam in my imagination and they look perfect together as a couple. You can picture it, too, can't ya.

Back in 2003, Erin was one of the finalists vying to fill Lisa Ling's vacant cohost seat on The View. Unfortunately, she lost that post to the vacant Elisabeth Hasselbeck. (Don't even get me started on her.) More recently, Erin was rumored to be in the running to replace Alicia Leigh Willis as General Hospital's Courtney before GH decided to kill off, rather than recast, the character.

By my count, that's two great ABC gigs Erin Hershey Presley has missed out on since PC was cancelled. If the network's smart, they'll take this opportunity to bring the blonde bombshell back into the fold.

World Turns and Light Casting Scoopage
Expect As the World Turns' hottest new cop, Jordan Woolley, to make a "story-line dictated" departure in June. Looks like his Nick Kasnoff character will be a casualty of that Oakdale Confidential murder mystery. Bummer!

A Guiding Light spokesperson confirms they're recasting Reva's son, Shayne. No word on why blond cutie Marty West — who last played Shayne in 2004 and is reportedly unemployed — couldn't reprise the role. Hmm...

As GL aficionados know, the Mother's Day episode on Wednesday, May 10, will feature a haunting (of sorts) by the friendly ghosts of Jenna Bradshaw Cooper (Fiona Hutchinson), Sarah Shayne (Audrey Peters) and Nadine Cooper (Jean Carol).

Here's something you may not know: TVGuide.com has learned that GL and Hutchinson are currently in talks for the actress to return to the CBS soap on a more permanent basis as a new character. Conveniently enough, Jenna's look-alike would also be fancied by Buzz (Justin Deas).

"We were thrilled to have Fiona return for our Mother's Day show," says the GL rep, "but there is no truth to that rumor." Then again, they gotta say that since it's not officially a done deal, right? Stay tuned!

World Turns Fights Homophobia
As the World Turns stars Martha Byrne (Lily) and Van Hansis (Luke) will appear in a GLAAD-sponsored public-service announcement on Tuesday, May 9, urging viewers to stand up against homophobia and "be an ally and a friend" to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people.

FYI, ATWT's Luke and General Hospital's Lucas (Ben Hogestyn) are currently the only two gay male characters on daytime soaps. (I don't really count Marcie's cute gay brother and his husband on One Life to Live, who only turn up in Llanview on rare occasions, such as Marcie and Michael's wedding last week.) As far as gay female characters go, Passions' Simone is an out and proud African-American lesbian and All My Children's beloved Bianca returns for another visit on May 24.

Here's a blast from the past: Back in 1988, the late, great ATWT writer Douglas Marland created daytime's first openly gay male character, Hank Elliot, as played by Brian Starcher. Hank was a friendly fashion designer with an HIV-positive boyfriend, Charles, who was never seen on-screen. Times sure have changed, huh?

"Luke's journey to come out is a powerful, multigenerational story of love, acceptance and family," says CBS Daytime VP Barbara Bloom. "It is a story of unflinching honesty in which Luke's parents, Lily and Holden, must face their own beliefs when they realize they must choose to love their child because of who he is and not in spite of it. CBS Daytime is proud to support As the World Turns in the telling of this powerfully relevant and engaging story, and we are equally pleased to have GLAAD's support while we do so."

A GLAAD spokesman adds that "Luke's story line has connected As the World Turns' viewers emotionally with what gay people experience every day, and we're grateful to the soap and CBS for taking a stand against discrimination and encouraging viewers to be allies to gay people in their lives. [Since] Luke is a member of one of [Oakdale's] core families, we look forward to many more years of watching his story develop."

Days Diva Nadia Bjorlin's Boyfriend Joins Passions

Today's Passions-palooza isn't over yet. Here's one more tasty casting scooplet for ya!

Remember that I told you way back in March that Passions was seeking an actor to play a new love interest for Theresa (Lindsay Hartley)?

Well, it looks like they found their man. James Stevenson has just been cast in the contract role of Jared Casey, "a handsome newcomer to Harmony who will sweep Theresa off her feet." He first airs on July 21.

Stevenson is best known from UPN's short-lived series Sex, Love & Secrets. By the way, this TVGuide.com reporter was first to reveal that Stevenson was dating his Sex costar Nadia Bjorlin (ex-Chloe, Days of our Lives). Bjorlin had previously dated Bruce Willis. In my opinion at the time, James was definitely a step up!

Pregnant Passions Star Recast
Heads up, Passions fans!

As McKenzie Westmore herself predicted, Passions will temporarily recast her character, Sheridan, while she is away on maternity leave. FYI, Westmore's three-month break began two weeks ago. The very pregnant actress hasn't given birth to son Maddox yet, but the baby boy is expected to arrive anytime now!

Meanwhile, Kam Heskin will begin filling in as Sheridan on July 5. Longtime NBC soap fans will remember Heskin from her Sunset Beach stint as Caitlin Deschanel from 1998 to 1999.

Restless Hussy Joins Bold and Beautiful
Young and the Restless fans could never forget that blond, slinky soap siren, Jennifer Gareis. She played Sharon Newman's ex-best friend, Grace Turner, who was always lusting after her husband, Nick. So what's she up to now?

On Thursday's episode of SoapNet's Soap Talk, Gareis' manager, Michael Bruno, revealed that she is headed over to Y&R's sister sudser, The Bold and the Beautiful, to play the new Donna Logan!

Donna is the younger sister of B&B's long-suffering fashionista, Brooke Logan Forrester (Katherine Kelly Lang). Expect lots of drama with Brooke and their father, Stephen (Patrick Duffy). UPDATE: B&B's rep now tells me Gareis will begin taping in mid-June. She'll debut on the air as Donna on July 20.

FYI, the role of Donna was originated by Carrie Mitchum, who is a granddaughter of the late Robert Mitchum and the ex-wife of Casper Van Dien. Mitchum last appeared in 2004. So why isn't she reprising her role? Probably the same reason B&B chose Lesli Kay to play Felicia Forrester instead of the original Felicia, Colleen Dion. They wanted a younger, sexier actress with more of an edge. It sure worked in Kay's case, and I have no doubt Gareis will be faboo, too.

Be sure to come back and read TVGuide.com's exclusive Soaps Q&A with Jennifer Gareis on Tuesday, May 23!

All My Children Reveals Recast
TVGuide.com told you first that All My Children plans to recast Adam and Liza's daughter, Colby Marian Chandler. AMC has just cast daytime newcomer Ambyr Childers, whose previous credits include small roles in Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star and TV's S Club 7. Since Colby was born in 2000, we figure she'd be in kindergarten right now. However, thanks to SORAS — that's short for Soap Opera Rapid Aging Syndrome — Colby will be a randy teenager when she turns up in Pine Valley on July 3.

Tyler Will Stay on General Hospital
When ABC released its 2006-07 primetime schedule on Tuesday, the roster did not include Tyler Christopher's much-discussed pilot, Secrets of a Small Town.

I'm torn by this news. On one hand, I really think Tyler — who plays General Hospital's Greek prince, Nikolas Cassadine — deserves to shine in the prime-time limelight. Plus, the nighttime sudser was created by GH cohead writer Charles Pratt Jr., who is also a consulting producer on Desperate Housewives. Secrets also boasted an intriguing cast, which included Angie Harmon (Law & Order) and Denise Richards (Wild Things). What a Debbie Downer that we'll never see it on the air.

Then again, this does mean that Tyler is unlikely to leave his daytime gig anytime soon. As the hottie said in our recent Soaps Q&A: "I would say there's a 99 percent chance that I will stay on General Hospital for at least another year if the pilot is not picked up."

So when you look at it that way... hurrah!

Rumor Control: Will Tuc Nip His Role on OLTL?
You may have recently seen Tuc Watkins' handsome face on the cover of a soap mag, along with a story suggesting that he will quit One Life to Live when his contract expires in August. The reason given was that Watkins — who plays loveable schemer David Vickers — is tired of the cross-country commute between his Los Angeles home and New York City, where OLTL is taped. Is this true? Let's ask the man himself!

"Well, those magazines unfortunately have to print something once a week," Tuc tells TVGuide.com. "They'll often print stuff that they're not sure is true. The network and I haven't even discussed that yet. It's still a few months down the road."

We sure hope Tuc decides to stay in Llanview. His stylish swagger and witty brand of comic relief would certainly be missed if he left OLTL. "David Vickers went away for seven years once and came back," he says, "so even if he goes to jail in Morocco or something, chances are he'll probably resurface at some point, even if he does go away."

That Tuc is such a tease. Guess we'll just have to stay tuned....

General Hospital: Exclusive Video Clips!
Hey, General Hospital fans! We've been diagnosed with a chronic case of Finola Hughes fever over here at TVGuide.com. FYI, the Daniel's Dish blog currently features a sassy Q&A with Anna Devane's sexy portrayer. Plus, we can now offer you exclusive video clips from Anna's past and present!

You '80s nostalgia buffs should click here to watch video of three vintage scenes:

The first scene is Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers) and Sean Donely (John Reilly) discussing Anna's new love, Duke Lavery. It originally aired on September 22, 1986.

The second scene is from the same '86 episode. It's Robert surprising Robin — Kimberly McCullough as a little girl! Anna enters the scene and has a tense reunion with Robert.

The third scene is from an episode that originally aired on June 4, 1986. It's Anna and little Robin in the kitchen. You longtime Hospital fans will get choked up when you see Argentina Brunetti, who played Robin's grandmother, Filomena Soltini, from 1985 to 1988. Brunetti died of natural causes in Rome, Italy, last December at age 98.

Be sure to also watch our second video clip, which features good stuff from this week's Monday and Tuesday GH episodes. There's Anna dropping in via helicopter to hug Robin and kick Robert's butt. With the feisty physical stuff out of the way, the Scorpios have an emotional heart-to-heart talk about how much they all love each other.

Enjoy!

Breaking News! NBC Renews Passions

Soap fans who feared that Passions was "on the bubble" need fear no more. NBC has officially renewed the camptastic supernatural sudser for an eighth season. This means Passions is confirmed to stay on the air at least through July 2007!

"Passions continues to attract a loyal fan base as well as a youthful audience that appreciates its wildly inventive story lines," NBC Entertainment president Kevin Reilly said in a statement. "We are glad to continue our creative relationship with the show as a reflection of our commitment to daytime programming."

Passions creator James E. Reilly — who also writes Days of our Lives — will stay on as head writer and consulting producer, and Lisa de Cazotte will remain executive producer. "Jim and Lisa are a winning combination," stated NBC Daytime president Annamarie Kostura. "Their enthusiasm and love of the genre has created fun, fresh storytelling and we're thrilled to continue our relationship with them for what promises to be another imaginative season."

So that's the good news, kids. The bad news is that NBC required Passions to do some serious financial belt-tightening in order to stay afloat for a Season 8. Sources tell TVGuide.com that the soap had to slash its budget by as much as $5 million. As a result, nearly two dozen behind-the-scenes staffers were laid off. How the Passions cast roster will be affected still remains to be seen. An NBC spokesperson declined to comment on the soap's financial situation.

Unfortunately, this sort of money crunch isn't unusual in these leaner, meaner days in daytime TV. Last year CBS's Guiding Light was forced to move to a more afforable studio space — putting union crew members out of work — in addition to bumping some of its actors off contract and asking others to take paycuts.

But this Pollyanna prefers not get too bogged down in the business stuff. The bright side is that our soaps are staying on the air. Layoffs and lower budgets are always lousy, but that's far better than seeing a fabulous sudser like Passions cancelled altogether, right?

American Idol Finalist Guest Stars on Young and the Restless
I've been so despondent over Graylor Hicks, I mean, Taylor Hicks winning American Idol last night! In fact, I just got back from flogging myself Da Vinci Code-style for not texting in more votes for Kat McPhee. So I was relieved to find an email with some good Idol-related news from The Young and the Restless, of all places.

Get this: American Idol finalist Josh Gracin — who made the final four back in Season 2 — will be gracin' the June 29 episode of Y&R. Really, I'm not just joshing! He'll make his acting debut as Jake, a cowboy, in scenes with Nick (Joshua Morrow) and Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) in a country-western bar.

That's an apropos role for the 25-year-old former Marine, who has been thriving as a country singer since Idol. His first album, Josh Gracin, sold so well it went gold. His second disc is due out in June.

FYI, Gracin's cowboy character won't be singing, but he will sidle up to that sexy filly Phyllis and try to pick her up! No doubt Nick will be ticked about that.

P.S. Don't forget that singer-songwriter Jewel performs on Y&R next week. Visit my Daniel's Dish blog to watch an exclusive video preview!

Summer Surprise! More Finola Hughes on General Hospital
After superspy Anna Devane's splashy five-episode return to General Hospital last week, Finola Hughes' devotees were left thirsty for more.

Happily, Finola has revealed on her personal blog that a return engagement is imminent. "Anna needs a place for the summer," Fin teased in her latest post. "She'll be there late June through August. Know of any vacancies?"

"Finola told me at the Emmys that she had really a good time and she would love to come back," Hospital head writer Bob Guza tells TVGuide.com. "I said, 'Anytime.'"

While a full summer's stay is certainly better than a week, might Finola remain in Port Charles on a more permanent basis?

"If I have my way, she will be back for a looong period of time," Guza says. "I know she has that other Style network show [How Do I Look?] but maybe there's some way she could do both. I'd do anything possible scheduling-wise to accommodate her 'cause I just love Finola.

"Also, we got a whole lot of emails and phone calls to the show on the Friday afternoon when she dropped out of the helicopter," Guza adds. "The response to Finola's return as Anna Devane has been very, very strong, which is wonderful. She's a capable, competent woman who can kick a man's ass, yet she's a sexy seductress and she's Robin's mom, having to deal with a grown daughter who's having relationship problems. Finola juggles those three aspects extremely well."

UPDATE: Speaking of Robin's relationship with Dr. Patrick Drake, click over to Daniel's Dish to watch the sexy MDs in our exclusive GH video preview!

Juicy Ins and Outs at World Turns and GL!
There's lots of As the World Turns and Guiding Light news in this post, so read — or at least skim — the whole enchilada, amigos.

Long-suffering soap heroine Jennifer Ferrin (Jennifer Munson) has opted to exit As the World Turns when her contract expires this summer. The recent Daytime Emmy nominee — who just lost the outstanding supporting actress trophy to Gina Tognoni (Dinah, Guiding Light) — has been through it all: crystal-meth addiction, one-night stands and even a baby-switch saga. Now the adorable redhead wants to see what other showbiz opportunities are out there for her. Although there's no official word from World Turns on her character's future, I'm hearing that a recast is among the options under consideration.

I've been receiving concerned emails from World Turns viewers ever since March, when series veteran Ellen Dolan — who plays policewoman Margo Hughes — sent out an SOS letter directly to the show's fans. "Have you noticed that Margo isn't on any cases anymore? About five years ago Margo, the detective, came to a screeching halt," Dolan wrote. "The combination of 'strong' and 'woman' doesn't seem to fit in our show anymore. The message I'm getting is I can't do the detective work because I am a woman. Jack did the B.J. case and he wasn't even on the force at the time. It was supposed to be Margo's case. Jack is working both the Ryan and the Kasnoff cases! I love Michael Park but come on!!!

"If you don't see Margo as a cop soon, you won't see Margo at all!" Dolan's letter went on. "The character is being dismantled. These characters are your characters, and I think [they're] valuable to the show. I need your support. I need you to help save Margo Hughes! I need you to write and ask for Margo back.... Please guys, 'cuz I love Margo and I want to keep giving her to you. Not to mention that my kid is only 6. I've got many years to go."

Dolan must be feeling more optimistic these days, since a setside spy tells TVGuide.com that the actress just signed another three-year contract with the CBS sudser. Hopefully Margo will get something meatier to do besides baby-sitting her horndog son Casey's (Zach Roerig) sex life.

Joshua Freiser and Ian Boyd appear on Guiding Light as young Jonny and teen Jonny, respectively, when Springfield bad boy Jonathan Randall (Tom Pelphrey) imagines his future in the May 31 episode. Back in 2003, Boyd played Casey Hughes on World Turns. Going further back to 1998, he played the younger version of Jake McKinnon (Tom Eplin) in a flashback sequence on Another World.

Duane McLaughlin joins the World Turns cast in the role of Dallas Griffin — the nephew of lawyer Jessica Griffin (Tamara Tunie) — on June 26. Hopefully this means more airtime for my girl Tamara!

All My Children Recast Alert
It seems like All My Children are being recast for the summer!

Marcus Patrick joins AMC on June 29 as Jamal Cudahy, the adopted son of Livia Frye Cudahy (Tonya Pinkins) and Tom Cudahy (Richard Shoberg). Jamal was last seen in 1995, when Amir Williams played the character, who went to court to divorce his biological father, Alec McIntyre (Grant Aleksander), so that he could stay with the Cudahys.

Appropriately enough, the litigious Jamal now returns to Pine Valley as a law student. Expect him to complicate the budding romance of Aidan Devane (Aiden Turner) and Erin Lavery (Connie Fletcher).

Passions Monk's Identity Revealed

As viewers learned in today's episode of Passions, that mysterious, malevolent monk who's been lurking around Rome is really Alistair Crane (John Reilly). That's the latest twist in a rather convoluted Da Vinci Code takeoff that's taken over the NBC sudser.

Is it just me or did anyone else think this monk's "unfrocking" would be another celebrity stunt-casting moment? The last hooded character skulking about was revealed to be Alistair's not-so-late girlfriend, Rachel, as played by former General Hospital star Sharon Wyatt.

I must say it's a bit anticlimactic that the monk is merely an existing Passions villain. But at least it's consistent, since Alistair has disguised himself with a face mask before. Heck, this plot twist looks downright realistic compared to the time Beth's lesbian admirer, Charlie, turned out to be Alistair in drag!

FYI, the unsung guy who has played the monk until the Alistair reveal is character actor and voice-over artist Sky McDougall.

If you're having any trouble following this unholy tale, you can catch up at Passions' colorful Vendetta website. Without it, you haven't got a prayer.

Reality TV Lures Days of our Lives Star
Back in January Arianne Zuker (ex-Nicole) quietly left her long-running gig on Days of our Lives to pursue other avenues in showbiz. So what's she been up to?

Well, for one thing, the blonde soap siren has gone brunette! Professionally, she did a guest spot on CSI: Miami in April and will appear in a celebrity-themed Fear Factor episode scheduled to air August 29 on NBC.

Just in case you're curious, the other celebs in Zuker's Fear installment will be '70s teen dream Leif Garrett, Celebrity Fit Clubber Tempestt Bledsoe, Baywatcher Traci Bingham, Diff'rent Strokes' Todd "Willis" Bridges, Surreal Lifer Brande Roderick and John Melendez from Tonight Show and Howard Stern.

FYI, Zuker's Days pal, Alison Sweeney (Sami), came in second place on a celebrity edition of Fear Factor in 2002. We still haven't forgotten her palpable panic about lying in a coffin filled with creepy-crawly flatworms, scorpions, and millipedes!

Arianne, are you sure you wanna do this?!

Survivor Women Score Soap Cameos
Popular Survivor castaway Stephenie LaGrossa will visit Guiding Light on Thursday, June 8! She'll appear as a waitress in the Cooper family's restaurant, Company. Survivor fans fondly recall Stephenie from the Palau and Guatemala seasons. If that girl could kick butt in a primitive fire-making challenge, she should have no trouble serving Springfielders their morning cuppa coffee.

In related news, two women from Survivor: Panama — Exile Island will drop by Guiding Light on Thursday, June 22.

Tammy Faye look-alike Melinda Hyder — who was voted off Panama early on — plays a waitress. Spunky finalist Cirie Fields — a fan-fave who scored herself a GMC Yukon — plays an internal affairs detective from the Springfield P.D. Perfect role for the no-nonsense Cirie!

Real-Life Drama at Days of our Lives
Last week TVGuide.com was first to report that NBC has renewed Passions for another year, albeit with a much lower budget that required massive staff layoffs behind the scenes. But there's yet more drama afoot at NBC Daytime....

Today's Variety all but confirms recent buzz that James E. Reilly is on his way out as head writer of Days of our Lives. The Hollywood trade mag says NBC has approached former As the World Turns head scribe Hogan Sheffer about writing Days in Reilly's stead. Variety further suggested that NBC — which does not own Days — is unlikely to renew the classic Corday sudser without another license-fee cut.

An NBC spokesperson declined to comment when TVGuide.com asked for a reaction to Variety's report.

Meanwhile Days is currently contracted to stay on NBC through March 2007. I'm hearing that the Peacock has the contractual option to order additional seasons of Days, but has not yet decided whether to exercise that option.

With all due respect to James E. Reilly — 'cause I am a genuine fan of his work — it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if a fine talent like Sheffer took over as Days' head writer.

FYI, Sheffer did a splendid job as head writer of World Turns from 2000 to 2005. The CBS sudser claimed four Outstanding Drama Series Writing Team statuettes at the Daytime Emmys during his tenure. Not too shabby.

And let's face it: Days' fans generally agree that the NBC soap has been in a creative slump for a while now.

During Reilly's '90s stint, he boosted ratings with wacky stories like Vivian Alamain burying Dr. Carly Manning alive, Marlena's demonic possession and Kristen's "Secret Room" saga, featuring Eileen Davidson as five different characters. There was more outrageous fun when Reilly returned in the summer of 2003 and introduced Marlena's serial-killer story line.

I think I speak for most Days fans when I say the show went downhill after the killings were revealed to be a huge hoax. (The victims were all found to be living on a remote island that was decorated to look just like Salem.) Suspension of disbelief is one thing, but this unsatisfying plot resolution was rife with out-of-control inconsistences that baffled loyal viewers. Despite attempts to change its creative direction, Days still hasn't really recovered. The disastrously unpopular Jack/Jennifer/Frankie triangle — which has fan-fave Melissa Reeves threatening to leave the show — is clear evidence of that.

I gotta think that the strain of penning two daily sudsers would eventually burn out even the most gifted workaholic writer. Perhaps it would be best if Mr. Reilly focused his considerable creative energies on his camptastic creation, Passions, and let Sheffer or another writer figure out how to revitalize Days.

J.R. faces justice. Babe causes a courtroom commotion on J.R.'s behalf. Later, Kendall turns up to testify against the Chandler heirhead who put her in a coma. Dixie begs Zach not to harm her son. Kendall's truce with Babe is definitely over — she wants that trailer-trash blonde ousted from Fusion pronto. Meanwhile, Erica and her first husband, Dr. Jeff Martin, disagree about their unaborted son, Josh. Pine Valley wonders what happened to Dr. Greg Madden, who continues to be psychologically tortured inside that coffin. (Psst! TVGuide.com has scoopage on the brand new lady in Ryan Lavery's life. There's also an exclusive Q&A with Bianca's portrayer, Eden Riegel, in the Daniel's Dish blog.)

Ric deviously uses Sonny's bipolar condition against him. An innocent child becomes Manny's pawn in his vendetta against Sam and Jason. Helena dreams up an evil new Cassadine plot.

An unfortunate accident prevents Margaret from telling Bo and John the truth about Dr. Spencer Truman. Blair realizes how rotten Spencer really is and plots a seduce-and-destroy mission. Lily's home life spins out of control when Damian hires a shrink with a famous face to "cure" Luke's homosexuality. On the other hand, Stephen gives Nick a dire warning. The fashion media gathers for yet another splashy Forrester Creations press conference — this time it's about the revival of Forrester's risquι "Brooke's Bedroom" line.

Guiding Light
Springfield gathers for Coop and Lizzie's wedding day. Beth uses Spaulding muscle to stop Ava from interfering in her daughter's nuptials. On the other hand, Jonathan's the wild card that could spoil everything. The ghost of H.B. Lewis visits Josh in a dream. Those romantic feelings between Cassie and Josh can no longer be ignored. In a painful and poignant moment, Reva asks Jonathan to shave her head so that she can begin wearing a wig — but she still can't bring herself to tell Josh she has cancer.

The Young and the Restless

Elsewhere in Genoa City, Kevin's new romance blossoms despite Gloria's maternal meddling. Colleen snoops in J.T.'s private-eye files, and the truth comes out about his investigation of her father's shady past. As Victor's odd behavior continues, he gives Nikki yet another surprise gift. Broken trust is a major obstacle as Sharon and Nick work on their messed-up marriage. (Click here (Edit: see below) to find out who's guest-starring on Y&R in July!)

Cornell seeks help from a dangerous source. Gwen has a news flash for Theresa. Whitney learns who's really under the mysterious monk's hood. The Bold and the Beautiful's Twin Recast
Did I call it or what?

Way back in March, TVGuide.com told you that The Bold and the Beautiful intended to recast Ridge and Taylor's twin daughters, Phoebe and Steffy Forrester. That report was based on a B&B audition script floating around that featured an emotional scene between Ridge and Phoebe.

Although the CBS soap denied that teen actresses Addison and Alex Hoover were axed, the Phoebe and Steffy characters went off to college and off-screen.

This afternoon, B&B officially announced that MacKenzie Mauzy has joined the cast in the contract role of Phoebe Forrester. Suds fans will recognize the actress from her stint on Guiding Light as Elizabeth "Lizzie" Spaulding from 2000 to 2003.

Mauzy began taping on Wednesday, June 7, in scenes with Susan Flannery and Ronn Moss. She is scheduled to debut on the air on Monday, July 10.

Notice that I said Mauzy has been cast as Phoebe. But what about Steffy?

B&B's spokesperson is keeping mum on specifics about the other twin, but told TVGuide.com that viewers would receive an explanation of Steffy's whereabouts when NuPhoebe debuts on July 10.

Yeah, like I'm really gonna wait that long. Coleridge is on the case!

Young and Restless Update: Victor's Ex Drops Out
Here's a disappointing bit of breaking news for Young and the Restless fans. Remember how I told you yesterday that Signy Coleman is returning as Victor's ex-wife Hope for a day in July?

Turns out, she's not. TVGuide.com just got this announcement via e-mail from the CBS sudser's spokesperson:

"Due to a family emergency, Signy Coleman will not be portraying Hope Adams Wilson on Y&R. The role will be recast. We will keep you posted."

As soon as I know more, you'll know more.

Victor's Young and Restless Ex Returns!
Something strange has happened to Genoa City billionaire Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) ever since he head-butted a carjacker on The Young and the Restless. He's been oddly, well, nice and unusually concerned with childish things like puppies and arts 'n crafts. What the heck is next?

On July 14, Victor will have a vision of his former wife, Hope Adams Wilson, who's played by Signy Coleman.

Gosh, I miss Signy! She was so cool as Hope, a blind but fiercely independent Kansan farm woman. I've been wondering how her son, Victor Jr., is doing. Hopefully Y&R will consider bringing back Hope in the flesh sometime.

In other news, Dharma & Greg star Mimi Kennedy will guest star on Y&R on July 17. She'll play Feather, a tarot card reader who visits Crimson Lights coffeehouse to offer up some juicy predictions for Kevin, Devon, Neil and Carmen. Well, I predict the artist formerly known as Dharma's mother will be magically delicious!

All My Children Casts Ryan's New Lady
Did I call it or what?

Last month TVGuide.com was first to report All My Children's plans to cast a new character named Annie McDermott, who is a potential love interest for Ryan Lavery (Cameron Mathison).

While this armchair soap casting director had hoped to see the contract role go to Erin Hershey Presley, AMC went with another blonde beauty: Melissa Claire Egan. The daytime newcomer — whose resume includes small roles on Dawson's Creek and One Tree Hill — debuts on July 10.

General Hospital: Evil Nanny Alert!
As General Hospital watchers know, the deliciously diabolical Helena Cassadine (Constance Towers) is back in Port Charles and very interested in lil' John. And not in a sweet, great-grandmotherly way — it's more like an Omen-ish, "I shall raise you to be the Antichrist" kind of way.

Next week, the child's paternity secret is finally outed. Our hellacious Helena learns he's Nikolas' son — the Cassadine heir she's been waiting for!

Once Nikolas (Tyler Christopher) takes custody of John from Jax (Ingo Rademacher) and moves the baby to Windermere, Helena sneaks a mole into the mansion. That's Nanny Colleen, who will be played by Amanda Tepe starting on Friday, June 16. Judging from the actress's headshots, she's perfect casting for an evil babysitter. I have one word for you: Eyebrows!

P.S. This isn't Ms. Tepe's first time on General Hospital. Back in 2004, she played Enid, who was the sister of the poor, unfortunate maintenance man (and Zander look-alike) who was killed in the Port Charles Hotel fire. Thanks to Enid's interference, we found out that Zander (Chad Brannon) didn't perish in the inferno, but was, in fact, still alive.

Star of HBO's The Comeback Joins As the World Turns
Lisa Kudrow's husband is coming aboard As the World Turns!

OK, it's not actually Kudrow's real hubby. I'm talking about Damian Young, who played Hollywood has-been Valerie Cherish's husband, Mark Berman, on HBO's late, underrated comedy series The Comeback. Young joins World Turns on Wednesday, June 14, as Dr. Ross Kreeger. The character is a shady shrink who aims to "cure" Lily's teenage son, Luke (Van Hansis), of his homosexuality.

Uh-oh! This could get ugly.

Speaking of Lily, Martha Byrne — who plays the long-suffering ATWT heroine — is officially on maternity leave. However, the CBS soap's spokesperson says we needn't worry about Lily going totally MIA during this important story line. Thanks to the magic of pretaped scenes, viewers shouldn't have to go through too much Lily deprivation.

Days Star Alison Sweeney's Doggone Crisis
Soap stars are no different from the rest of us when it comes to pet love.

Days of our Lives diva Alison Sweeney (Sami) and her policeman husband, David Sanov, are anxiously searching for their lost dog, Paco. The 4-pound fawn-colored, short-haired Chihuahua recently snuck out the front door of their home in the Hollywood Hills. The couple is offering a $1,000 reward for Paco's safe return on FidoFinder.com.

You can see Ali's adorable Paco for yourself by clicking on the link below. However, I must discourage you from using the "Contact This Owner" option unless you really have info on Paco's location, OK?

Speaking of NBC soap stars who heart stray pets, be sure to read TVGuide.com's fresh Soaps Q&A with Kelli McCarty (Beth, Passions) on Tuesday, June 6. The former Miss USA is on a mission to save America's lost and unwanted animals, and she's got me all fired up about it!

Eva La Rue, Meet Eva Longoria
Don't forget to watch the ALMA Awards tonight at 9:30 pm/ET on ABC. Congrats to the delightful Eva La Rue (ex-Maria, All My Children), who will be on hand to accept her trophy for outstanding performance in a daytime drama. FYI, "ALMA" is Spanish for "spirit" or "soul" and this awardsfest celebrates Latino artistic achievement in TV, film and music, as well as positive Latino images in Hollywood.

For more ALMA Awards info — including our video clip of host Eva Longoria — click over to today's Hot List.

Now when is my diva Eva La Rue gonna get an award for her supercute Style show Modern Girl's Guide to Life? My fave recent episode was "Modern Girl's Guide to Being Eco-Fabulous," which taught viewers how to be environmentally responsible while still being fashionable. Good stuff!

I mostly just like the term "eco-fabulous" and hope to work it into my everyday parlance as much as possible. For example, I went to the movies to see Al Gore's eco-fabulous new film An Inconvenient Truth this weekend. You have to go see it. X-Men: The Last Stand can wait.

All My Children's Eden Riegel Takes the Stage
Just a quick FYI for all you Eden Riegel fans. Per the New York Post, she has just landed the title role of Millie in the Boston production of Thoroughly Modern Millie. The musical runs July 19-23 at the Robinson Theatre. So if you're planning to be in Beantown over the summer, drop in and see Eden do her thing!

By the way, I've been enjoying Eden's latest stint as lesbian heroine Bianca Montgomery on All My Children. Although Bianca's occasional visits are nice, I'd really love it if she'd say au revoir to Paris and return to Pine Valley permanently.

UPDATE: An AMC spokesperson tells TVGuide.com that Eden will last air on June 14. At the moment there are no plans to bring Bianca back permanently, but the door will be left open as always.

Stork Scoop! Susan Lucci Will Be a Grandmother
Soap superstar Susan Lucci (Erica, All My Children) is very excited about her next big role: Daytime's most glamorous granny!

Lucci's daughter, Passions star Liza Huber (Gwen), says she is expecting her first child with husband Alexander George Hesterberg III.

"Oh my gosh, we are just over the moon," Liza tells TVGuide.com. "The baby's due date is December 31! It's really the end of December or very early January, but you know how they like to give you just one date. It wound up being New Year's Eve! So it's going to be a very busy, very exciting holiday season."

Uh-oh! Doesn't this mean people will try to give Liza's baby combined birthday and Christmas gifts? "Oh, no," she laughs. "Are you kidding? You're talking to the girl whose mother's birthday is December 23. There are nooo combo gifts. Kids don't deserve to get shafted, so there will be a definitive Christmas and a definitive birthday, no matter what. My mom always says having your birthday at the holidays is really fun because everything's decorated and everyone's in a festive mood."

Speaking of La Lucci, "She's gonna give new meaning to the word 'grandmother,'" Liza points out. "She certainly doesn't look like a grandmother! This is the first grandchild for both my parents and my husband's parents, so everyone is beside themselves with joy."

Liza's Passions costar, McKenzie Westmore (Sheridan), recently went off on maternity leave. Will Gwen need to be temporarily recast like Sheridan? "I'll definitely be taking a maternity leave," Liza says. "Whether they'll recast or not, I have no idea. I think recasting is great. I wouldn't mind being recast during my maternity leave because it keeps the story line going. It keeps my character, Gwen, working!"

Morrison — who is the the grandson of 1984 Nobel Peace Prize winner Bishop Desmond Tutu — joined GH in late 2003 as the third actor to play Justus. Back in the '90s, the role was played by Joseph C. Phillips and Monti Sharp.
