Richard Dean Anderson, Stargate SG-1

TV Guide caught up with Richard Dean Anderson on the Vancouver set of Sci Fi Channel's Stargate: SG-1, where he was making his first visit back since he left the show one and a half years ago to spend more time with his young daughter. Sitting in a mock wedding chapel, Anderson looked just fine in a tux, as he waited for a nuptial scene to begin. (SG-1 fans, you'll love it.) The occasion was special not only because of the former star's return

Sci Fi Closes the 'Gate

Gee, was the 200th episode's Wizard of Oz spoof that bad? Stargate SG-1, the longest-running sci-fi series in TV history, will end its journey after the final episodes of its 10-year run are completed, Variety reports. Mark Stern, exec VP of original programming for Sci Fi Channel (which picked up the saga from Showtime in 2002), tells Variety the axing "was not a ratings-driven decision," though total viewership has slipped by more than a half-million, to 1.95 mil, since 1Q 2005. "We're actually going out on a high note," Stern insists, noting that the production staff has been afforded time to bring the series to a proper conclusion and tie up all loose ends. Sister show Stargate Atlantis, still going strong in its own third season, is unaffected by the cancellation, and in fact will absorb some of the SG-1 cast members.

Stargate Update: It's "Not Necessarily" the End

Stargate SG-1's Richard Dean Anderson by Eike Schroter/Sci Fi ChannelAs part of an in-depth interview with TV Guide magazine, Stargate SG-1 exec producer Brad Wright reveals that while Sci Fi Channel may have announced the series' end after its 10th season wraps up, the show might go on. Promising "a very satisfying end to the season," Wright tells us that the finale is "not necessarily an end to SG-1 by any means." While Wright's ideal is to take SG-1 back to the big screen, a string of TV-movies
