It’s time for Season 12 of The Voice. Taking the coach’s chairs this season, together for the first time is: Gwen Stefani, who is inspired and glad to be back; Adam Levine who says it’s an honor to be there; Alicia Keys who says it feels really good to be back and her inner competitive nature is alive and well; and Blake Shelton who says the other coaches will gang up on him because he’s a five time winner. Season 12 of The Voice starts right now!

It's time for the blind auditions. Each artist will sing their song and hope one of the four coaches turns their chair. If one coach turns, the artist is on their team. However, if more than one coach turns, then the tables are turned and the real battle begins as the coaches fight for the artist to choose their team.  There's no depth to which a coach will not descend to score the artist they think could win The Voice!

The first artist of the season is Joshua Hunter from Albany, Georgia. His stage name is Jchosen, because feels like he was chosen to do music. He takes the stage and sings Sexual Healing by Marvin Gaye. Adam quickly pushes his button and turns. Alicia turns a few seconds later. Gwen and Blake look at each other and Blake pushes the button with Gwen shortly behind.

All coaches give a standing ovation and Adam goes up to give him a hug. Adam says if there is nothing he can say to unlock in Jchosen that he’s the coach for him, then he won’t be able to sleep tonight. Blake says every note is pitch perfect and he had Alicia embarrassed. Alicia says Marvin Gaye is in heaven giving a standing ovation and she congratulates him and says it’s a blessing. Gwen says what she heard was instinctual and it was true talent, and she’s excited for him whoever he chooses. Adam says if he gets chosen he can give a mans perspective as he navigates through the season. Gwen says she can give the perspective from both views, as a female and because she was in a band with male members. It’s time to select his coach. Jchosen selects…Gwen.

Gwen is shocked that she was selected. As Jchosen heads to the back Gwen stops him and gives him a hat that says #TeamGwen. Season 12 is just getting started.

The next artist is Lauren Duski from Gaylord, Mi. She comes from a family of dentists and no one in her family sings but her. She sings country but she would like to work with Gwen Stefani because it would broaden her scope of music. She’s going to sing You Were Meant For Me by Jewel. She sings a slightly slower version and gets a quick button push from Adam. Blake and Gwen push a minute later back to back.

Adam says he never heard someone do that song on the show and she took it to a new place and he thinks it would be refreshing for someone like her to win. Gwen says she was blown away because she doesn’t often hear singers use every part of their voice. Blake says she’s somebody who can clearly win this thing and he wants to work with people who can go on to be a star. Adam asks her what she wants to do and she answers she has always done country but she sings anything that moves her. Adam asks her to keep him in mind when she makes her choice and Gwen talks about having done duets with Adam and Blake. Alicia asks who she picks as her coach. Lauren chooses…Blake.

The next artist is a familiar face. It’s Johnny Hayes who auditioned last season and says he took away a lot of great advice. He works with his dad doing landscaping. He will be singing Try a Little Tenderness by Otis Redding. Adam and Gwen both turn quickly. Adam stands up before he finishes and is excited Alicia and Blake didn’t turn. Adam says singing Otis is not something you can get away with, but he did it right. Adam says don’t let Gwen use her thing with Blake to influence him. Blake says it didn’t take Gwen twice to hear him to push for him. Gwen says he delivered a performance from his heart and that’s what he cares about. Blake says he sees two people in the room who’ve made a comeback, one is Johnny and the other is Gwen. Alicia asks who he picks. Johnny decides…Adam is the coach for him.

Let’s meet the next artist. Next is Skyler Harris from Murfreesboro, Tennessee. She’s a police officer, but music is her dream. She thinks all the coaches are great, but if Alicia Keys turns for her she will lose it. She sings One and Only by Adele. Alicia looked like she wanted to turn, but none of the coaches pushed their button. Alicia says there is no denying she has an incredible voice and wants to know more about her. Alicia says she felt the power when Skyler sang, but she didn’t get to feel the vulnerability. Blake says she’s probably one that’s frustrated they didn’t turn for and he tells her to come back.

Next is Anatalia Villaranda from Temecula, California. She’s very short and had been in a group that was close to a record, but they fell apart. She’s singing Runaway Baby by Bruno Mars. The coaches look at each other and Blake mouths “Wow”.  Alicia and Blake finally hit together. Adam and Gwen both push at the end as well. Alicia says she has a big voice. Alicia says her family is amazing and Blake says he needs to see this and asks for them to come out. Blake says a lot of people turn that energy into a trainwreck, but she kept at it until someone turned around. Alicia says she’s more than just a voice, but an artist unafraid to express herself. Gwen says she relates to the energy to get everyone going and she feels passionate about her and her positivity. Adam says the greatness she has is something they can’t teach, but he believes she could win the entire thing. Anatalia picks as her coach…Alicia.

Next is Stephanie Rice from Texarkana, Texas. She has a degree in biology and does research. She is going to sing Piece by Piece by Kelly Clarkson. Blake turns very quickly. Gwen pushes a few seconds later. Gwen says Stephanie, Stefani. She says she was moved by her and could hear how much pain was there. She says she feels like she was there to work with Stephanie and would love to work with her. Alicia says she feels like the passion coming from Gwen was so sincere and it was a beautiful moment. Adam says he noticed the same thing. Blake says it’s 3 against 1, but the way she sang that song was like she wrote it. Blake says he would love to work with her, but she probably already made his decision and he’s good with it. Blake says he’d freak out if she picked him. Stephanie chooses…Gwen.

Let’s meet the next artist. Branden Martin is from Owingsville, Kentucky. He works on a farm and plays with a band. He sings Here’s a Quarter (Call Someone Who Cares) by Travis Tritt. None of the coaches turn. Adam says Branden is so country he makes Blake look like he’s not country. Blake says when he hit the growl, it was so good, but some of his pitch went sharp and it made him hesitate to hit his button. Adam says if he could have delivered with more conviction it would have made a difference and advised him to come back again.

Next is Mark Isaiah from Mount Pocono, Pennsylvania. He sings Mercy by Shawn Mendes. Adam and Gwen push together. They give him a standing ovation. Gwen says he sounds very current and she would love to have him on her team. Alicia says his voice is great. Blake says he should be on Gwen’s team. Adam says he belongs in the current landscape of pop music and he’s the best choice for Mark. He selects for his coach…Adam.

Up next is Brennley Brown from Apple Valley, California, and she is 14. She sings Stupid Boy by Keith Urban. Alicia and Blake both turn towards the end of the song. Alicia says she’s not afraid to fight. Blake tells Alicia who sang the song and then who wrote it and says he doesn’t see anyone else who can help her make her mark on country music. Alicia says she understands how hard it is as a young woman artist and she thinks of country and soul music as sisters. Alicia says she doesn’t want Brennley to be stuck in a box. Brennley picks as her coach…Blake.

Shaun Chrisjohn is next from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He’s a caretaker for his grandmother. He sings You Are the Best Thing by Ray LaMontagne. He did not get a chair turn. Alicia says it was great and he has a beautiful voice. Blake says he was on the edge of his seat but some of his transitions kept him from pressing his button. Alicia says he was really good, but she was looking for a real emotional connection.

Carson is on his way to visit Felicia Temple in Teaneck, New Jersey who is a registered nurse. She was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, but she’s free and clear now and she wants to start a new chapter and pursue her dream. She sings All I Could Do Was Cry by Etta James. Alicia pushes halfway through. Blake and Gwen both press at the end. Felicia says she was Felicia Keys because she played all of Alicia’s songs at the talent shows. Blake tells Gwen they should just turn back around. Gwen says she isn’t giving up. Adam wants to hear Alicia and Felicia do a duet together. They sing Alicia’s song Fallin’. Adam says Felicia who do you pick as your coach and Alicia says they didn’t get to say anything. Adam says they don’t need to, say it loud and say it proud. Felicia selects Alicia as her coach.

With only one spot left this season, Alicia is feeling the pressure to find the perfect singer to complete her team. These next artists weren’t quite what she was looking for. Meshale Akopian sang Me and Bobby McGee, Jacob Westfall sang Bad Blood, and Lyndsey Highlander sang Bring on the Rain.

Let’s see if our next artist has what Alicia is looking for. Next to take the stage is Chris Blue from Knoxville, Tennessee. He has decided to sing The Tracks of My Tears by Smokey Robinson and the Miracles. Alicia gladly hits her button. Alicia says she was looking for a male voice who was bluesy and soulful. Team Alicia is full!

The blind auditions are over. Now the battle to win The Voice begins. Tonight helping our coaches to prepare their teams are four of the biggest names the show has ever had. Joining Team Adam is John Legend. Team Blake has Luke Bryan. Helping Team Alicia is DJ Khaled. And advising Team Gwen is Celine Dion. With advisors of this caliber, performances will reach new heights, coaches decisions will be more heartbreaking, and their steals more crucial. The battle to be named The Voice starts right now!

Blake is kicking off his first battle of the season with Brennley Brown vs Lauren Duski. Blake has given them the song Better Man by Little Big Town. Blake advises Lauren to add a little anger to her verse and she says it’s an emotional song. Blake suggests Brennley to work on her diction. Luke likens Brennley to Taylor Swift and Lauren to Karen Fairchild from Little Big Town. He puts them on an even playing field.

Let the battle begin! Alicia tells them it was so beautiful. She says Lauren has a strong, raspy thing going on. Alicia felt Brennley was clear about what she was delivering. Gwen says she loves Brennley’s confidence. Gwen says Lauren’s voice is rich and she has a such an ease on stage. Gwen would pick Brennley. Adam says Lauren seemed more comfortable and graceful, but Brennley seems a bit more real. Blake says he is deciding based on who he feels he can move forward with on his team. The winner of this battle is…Lauren.

Carson reminds them Brennley is available to steal. Gwen immediately hits her button. Adam also pushes his button. Carson says congratulations to Brennley, she’s back on The Voice in a big way. Gwen says she wanted to work with Brennley as soon as she came out. She says it’s not just her voice, but her spirit and she really wants to work with her. Adam gets up to go to the stage and he sings Happy Birthday to Brennley with Carson singing along. Adam then says he had so many ideas of things he wanted to do musically with Brennley. Brennley’s new coach is…Gwen.

Gwen’s first pairing for the battle rounds is JChosen vs Kenny P. The song Gwen gave them is I Was Made to Love Her by Stevie Wonder. Celine says she felt JChosen was a little restricted and to be good when it’s time. Gwen says JChosen is talented but she saw the nervous side she wasn’t expecting. Celine tells Kenny P to take his time and not to overkill the other singer. Gwen says she thinks the song is perfect because it has soul and rock and they have to figure out how to make it come together. Celine says they did an amazing job.

This battle begins right now! Adam loves what JChosen does and he has an incredible way of performing. Adam tells Kenny P he was great and he thinks they were dead even. Blake says JChosen’s voice was so smooth and Kenny P has an edginess to his voice and he doesn’t know what he would do if he were Gwen right now. Alicia says she loved the high falsettos and their camaraderie on stage. Gwen says she feels like Kenny P is so natural and he knows who he is and what kind of music he wants to make. Gwen says she was looking for some of the nervousness in JChosen she seen in rehearsal, but it was all gone. The winner of the battle is…JChosen.

Now let’s check in with Alicia and her first pair of the battle rounds. She has paired Anatalia Villaranda vs Missy Robertson because they both have powerful voices. Alicia has given them the song Tightrope by Janelle Monae featuring Big Boi. Alicia tells them not to do the second run so they can get back into the song. DJ Khaled says they took all their advice and added more is rare, but they did it. Alicia says Anatalia is working the rhythm and Missy has the flair.

Let the battle begin! Gwen says she’s shocked because this tiny little doll is a firecracker. Gwen says Missy put some notes in she didn’t expect. Adam says it was like a whole two-hour concert packed into two minutes. Adam says Anatalia is amazing, but Missy is so good. Adam is more attracted to what Missy did. Blake says Anatalia is talented and flashy and he says Missy was undeniable. Alicia says it was so exciting and they are both really incredible. The winner of this battle is…Anatalia.

Adam’s first battle pairing is Gaby Borromeo vs Mark Isaiah. Adam selected the song Pillowtalk by Zayn for his team. John Legend tells Gaby she might want to push herself to be a little raspier. Adam tells them to sing the song better than anything they’ve done their entire lives. Adam says they’re both exceptional, but they both need to work on their upper register to nail the song. John gives them advice how to fix the middle where there’s an awkward moment of silence. Adam says they are both harmonizing well.

The battle starts right now. Blake says that was so good. Blake thinks Mark had a grasp on the syncopation and he’s leaning more towards Mark. Alicia says they both performed really well and it really depends on what Adam wants his for team. Gwen says Mark is really special and she’s a fan of him. Gwen tells Gaby her voice is so beautiful and she did great. Gwen is leaning towards Mark. Adam says they both had great chemistry. Adam says Mark is a really strong singer and Gaby is great too. Adam’s winner of the battle is…Mark.

Alicia’s team is up with her next battle pairing of Felicia Temple vs Quizz Swanigan. Alicia has given them the song Titanium by David Guetta featuring Sia. Alicia says Felicia has a way of singing this song that is so emotional, but she wants to hear her joy. Alicia tells Quizz he needs to work on reach the notes he doesn’t think he can reach. DJ says Quizz is a great singer with potential and Felicia is an amazing singer. Alicia says they’ll have to work hard to figure out how to show their emotion over the noise.

Let the battle begin! Gwen says Quizz has a unique tone to his voice, but Felicia’s voice and tone are so warm. Gwen would choose Quizz because he’s 13. Adam says the only thing Felicia doesn’t have going for her is she isn’t 13. He says in this moment he would go with Felicia. Blake says he can’t say enough about Felicia’s voice, that it’s more developed. He would go with Felicia just based on what he heard. Alicia says she thought Felicia let her shield down and exposed herself. She says Quizz took direction very well and they both succeeded in an incredible way. Alicia decides the winner of the battle is…Quizz.

Carson reminds the judges Felicia is available to steal. Felicia says it was a privilege to perform for them. Blake hits his button and steals Felicia. Blake says there is no reason she can’t win this thing and he wanted to keep her in the competition.

Blake’s final pairing of the night is Ashley Levin vs Casi Joy. Blake has given them the song How Blue by Reba McEntire. Luke says the front of the song is unbelievable. Blake tells them they need to give a performance the other coaches can’t live without. Blake advises Casi to turn down the growl because it comes off aggressive. Blake says this will be his toughest battle round.

It’s time for the last battle of the night. The battle starts now! Alicia says Casi has a vivacious energy and Ashely is a bit more reserved but Alicia senses there is more. Gwen says Casi seems a little more seasoned but Ashley has a beautiful voice and maybe needs a touch more help on stage presence. Adam thinks Ashley might have taken it. Blake says he had to pair them because they needed to be out of each other’s lane and he hopes they both stay on the show. Blake decides the winner of the battle is…Casi.

Carson reminds the coaches Ashely is available to steal. Ashley thanks Blake so much. Adam and Gwen both hit their buttons, then Alicia also hits hers. Carson says he can’t remember the last time all three coaches went all in for a steal. Adam points out he is the only person who though and said that Ashley won the battle. Gwen says she has a newfound love for country and she feels like she could help her learn how to work the stage. Alicia feels like Ashley showed her vocal prowess and she thinks she has so much more to say. Alicia says Adam was the only one who didn’t turn in the auditions and soul and country are close and she would love to be her coach. Ashley decides to go with team…Alicia.

They get a chance to practice the song before seeing their advisor. Gwen says they need to work the room a little bit. Celine says it’s so original and she is really thrilled. Gwen says Johnny has a lot of character in his voice and Sammie is so honest in her vocals.

The battle begins now! Adam says it was nice to listen to a great song and they are both really unique. Adam would pick Johnny, but Sammie is awesome. Blake says he would also go with Johnny, but Sammie too. Alicia says she loved that Sammie was moving and had individuality. Alicia would also choose Johnny. Gwen says she is impressed they made the song their own. She says Sammie sang from her heart and it was the best she’d ever seen her. Gwen says Johnny has great stage presence and she doesn’t have anyone like that on her team. Gwen says the winner of the battle is…Johnny Gates.

He adds they have a lot of good energy. DJ Khaled says they have a New Edition sound or Jodeci.

Let the battle begin! Gwen says she was mesmerized by Chris’s body and she had a hard time paying attention to RJ because she was distracted. Gwen says RJ’s voice was beautiful but she would pick Chris. Adam says they were both really comfortable and he really thought it ended up being super even. Blake says RJ’s stage presence is incredible, but Blake thinks Chris will be in the finale. Alicia say she was taken by RJ’s voice and his emotion. She says she’s proud of both of them. Alicia picks for her winner…Chris.

From Team Adam, the pairing was Josh West vs Nala Price and they sang Everybody Wants to Rule the World by Tears for Fears. Adam chose Josh as the winner for that battle. From Gwen’s team, the pairing was Aaliyah Rose vs Savannah Leighton and they had the song Treat You Better by Shawn Mendes. Gwen picked the winner as Aaliyah. From team Blake the pairing was Andrea Thomas vs Micah Tryba and they sang What Hurts the Most by Rascal Flatts and Blake chose Andrea as the winner.

Team Blake has the last pairing of the night and he has paired Aliyah Moulden vs Dawson Coyle. Blake has given them the song Walking on Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves. Blake tells Aliyah she was pitchy on the versus but spot on during the chorus. Blake tells Dawson to make sure he’s not flat and focus on getting to the note. Luke says if they start relaxing and having fun with the song it will be hard for anyone to let them go.

Let the battle begin. Alicia says the chemistry was amazing. She says Aliyah had a presence and Dawson has a charisma. Alicia tells Blake she doesn’t know how to help him decide who to keep, but maybe she would choose Dawson. Gwen says she could tell Dawson was having fun with it but Aliyah was adorable. Gwen says she would hold on to Aliyah. Adam says they were both good but he would choose Dawson. Blake says Dawson was getting the girls to react and he says Aliyah was adorable. Blake says the winner of the battle is…Aliyah.

Dawson is available to steal. Dawson tells Blake he pushed him to be a better vocalist. Alicia hits her button as Dawson goes to shake Blake’s hand. Alicia says she felt an energy that was pure and strong and he’ll have his own world and spot on her team.

We start with Blake’s first pairing of the night, Josh Hoyer vs TSoul. They have been given the song In the Midnight Hour by Wilson Pickett. Luke says TSoul has these incredible runs and Blake says they are cut from the same cloth musically. Blake tells them to work on their harmony parts for their final rehearsal with the band. Blake says Josh and TSoul are two peas in a pod.

The battle starts now! Alicia says she loved their harmonies and they lit up this place. Gwen says the stage presence was another level. Gwen says TSoul is so natural and it was fun to watch. Adam says they’re both so natural. Adam says he was impressed with what Josh did vocally. Blake says Josh needs to spend a little more time on the stage. Blake says TSoul can do all of those runs. Blake says the winner of the battle is…TSoul.

It’s time to look at Alicia’s first pairing, Autumn Turner vs Vanessa Ferguson. Alicia picked the song Killing Me Softly by Roberta Flack for her pairing. DJ Khaled says they don’t want it to sound like a cover, but you don’t want to mess it up either. Alicia also tweaks the musical arrangement a little.

The battle begins now. Gwen says Vanessa’s voice was calm and cool and Autumn has a powerful voice. Adam says they both did a superb, amazing, fantastic job. Adam says Autumn is a surprise to him, and the one he would want on his team. Blake says they are the reason they have the show and that performance was equal. Gwen says she has a steal left as well. Alicia says it was pleasurable to see Vanessa to come out and Autumn has ridiculous range. Alicia is going to make her choice, and she decides to keep…Vanessa.

Autumn is available to steal and both Gwen and Adam press their buttons immediately. Adam says she was a four chair turn and he thought she was so much better than she was in the auditions. Gwen says she could help her with style and personality and bringing that out. Autumn decides to go with team…Adam.

Adam’s first battle pairing of the night is Johnny Hayes vs Julien Martinez. They were given the song Hard to Handle by Otis Redding. John Legend tells Julien has a good growl and not to be too precise on the lyrics. Adam tells Johnny to be super conscious about his pocket. Adam says they both need a little work. John tells Johnny he’s a little ahead and needs to pull back a little and Julien he needs to look like he’s having a little more fun.

The battle begins now! Blake says Julien is such a good singer, but he wished he’d have been more involved. Blake thinks Johnny had that battle. Alicia says Julien was so lost in what he was doing and Alicia was split between them both. Gwen says Julien didn’t hold anything back, but Johnny seemed like he had so much experience. Adam says Julien did an incredible job of doing his own thing. Adam says what Johnny does is so special. Adam says the winner of this battle is…Johnny.

Gwen’s first pairing of the night is Caroline Sky vs Stephanie Rice. They were given the song The First Cut is the Deepest by Cat Stevens. Blake says Caroline has a beautiful voice and she can go different directions where Stephanie has a clear direction where she’s going. Blake would pick Stephanie. Alicia says she’s personally interested in Stephanie, but Caroline too the performance because her voice came off really strong in this song. Team Adam’s next battle pairing is Kawan DeBose vs Malik Davage. Adam selected the song Love Me Now by John Legend. John tells Malik to take the runs down because sometimes you can lose the song a little bit. He tells Kawan his voice is very subtle but he wants to make sure it’s going to convey enough power in a big setting. John also tells them to mind the lyrics because if you change a pronoun it can change the meaning of the song. Adam wants them both to succeed because they are both incredible talents. John expected them to make progress from day one to day two but they didn’t. Adam says it seems like they aren’t totally prepared and that upsets him because that’s a big deal. Adam tells us it doesn’t seem like they’re taking it seriously, but they’ll just have to wait and see.

The battle begins now! Blake says he didn’t feel it came together until halfway through. He says Kawan’s falsetto is really good and Malik has a good stage presence. Blake would probably give it to Kawan. Alicia says Malik came out with all the energy physically and Kawan came out with all the energy in his vocal. Gwen couldn’t keep her eyes off Malik and vocally Kawan could do so much. Gwen says there’s something about Malik that she was really drawn to. Adam thanks them and says they did an excellent job. Adam says this boils down to who he thinks he can work best with moving forward. Adam says it’s a tough one but the winner of this battle is…Malik.

From team Adam, Hanna Eyre vs Sheena Brook singing Try by Pink and Adam chose the winner as…Hanna. From team Gwen, Jozy Bernadette vs Troy Ramey singing Angel Eyes by The Jeff Healy Band and Gwen chose the winner as…Troy.

Alicia’s last pairing of the night is Hunter Plake vs Jack Cassidy. Alicia chose the song Dancing on My Own by Robyn. Alicia feels like Jack is restrained and is on the verge of unleashing. Alicia tells Hunter he should be under him just waiting for his moment. Alicia tells Hunter to work on his breath control so he doesn’t sound deflated and she tells Jack to just commit.

The battle starts now! Gwen says Jack sang tenderly and did very good and says Hunter has to make a record because his voice is incredible. Adam says Jack is fantastic and was drawn in from the first note that Hunter sang. Adam says Hunter took it for him, hands down. Blake says when Hunter started he was like and when Jack came in and his voice broke he was like yeah. Alicia says Hunter is a very internal individual and it’s very intriguing and interesting. Alicia says Jack has this thing that he’s so bright and she wants to untame him. Alicia says the winner is…Jack.

Hunter is available to steal. Adam and Gwen both hit their buttons. Adam says today Hunter completely changed how Adam perceived his voice and he thinks he’s really special. Gwen says he sings from his heart and she can offer to help people get to know who Hunter is.
