Dancing With The Stars ~ U.S. Season 22 Episode 5

We start tonight's Dancing With The Stars Episode with a video of the couples talking about the Switch-Up tonight. Professional dancers then dance in the ballroom. The couples come to the dance floor next. The audience really loves the dancers tonight. Tom & Erin start the show off with announcing this week’s couples. They are Antonio & Karina, Doug & Peta, Ginger & Mark, Jodie & Val, Kim & Keo, Nyle & Sharna, Paige & Sasha, Von & Lindsay, and Wanya & Witney.

 

Tom says, we will see how this week shakes up after the high of Disney Week. Tom introduces Max to the ballroom as the guest judge for tonight. Tom asks Max what he's looking for in the Switch Up. Max says, he wants to see them replicate how they dance with their original partner. Erin says, she danced with Max for 10 fantastic weeks when she was on the show. She blows him a kiss, & says they are still friends.

 

We see highlights & practice sessions from this week for Wanya & Witney. Tom says, they will dance next after the break, live.

 

Tom welcomes us back to America's Switch-Up. Wanya & Witney is dancing the Tango to Let It Go by James Bay, who is singing the song live in the ballroom. The audience erupts for them when they are finished dancing.

 

Len says, James Bay's song was great. He said Wanya hit turbulent waters tonight with to many moving parts on his body. He says it was to much going on in his world. The audience boos. Max says, he feels like they are that couple that has so many expectations, & they expected better. He said Tango is all about nothing moving on top, & everything was moving. Len asks why they didn't boo Max. Tom asks if he wants the honest answer. Bruno says, there was no holding back. He says, he gave them a lot of steps at maximum impact. He says, when he puts in so much energy, it has to be absolutely there, & he has incredible ability, & he's a great performance. Carrie Ann says she misses his chemistry that he has with Lindsay. She says, he delivered a solid dance tonight. They go to the sky box for their scores.

 

Tom says, it's been a challenge to throw the couples to new partners this week. Erin asks Wanya how hard it was to be with someone new this week? Wanya says, she's a great choreographer & America got it right. Judges scores: Carrie Ann - 8, Len - 7, Max - 7, Bruno - 8, for a total of 30. Erin tells America they need to get their votes in. Tom asks Len if he's happy that the audience booed Max now also? He doesn't answer. We go to commercial break.

 

We come back to the ballroom with Tom by the judges table. He says, it's America's Switch-Up with guest judge, Max. We see highlights & practice sessions from this week for Kim & Keo. They are dancing the Viennese Waltz to These Arms Of Mine by Otis Redding. The audience cheers & claps for them while they dance, & they erupt for them when they are finished.

 

Max says, it's a hard one, it's not really a Viennese Waltz. He says, there was half a step of the dance with half of a frame. The audience boos. Bruno says, Kim was a beautiful lady in a romantic novel. He says, she was on the money in the dance. Carrie Ann says, she loved it. She says, they don't expect them to dance the same as with their partner. She says, she brought out her steamy side & it was delicious. Len thanks Max for being there. He says, it's usually him against the world. He says, there wasn't one step in hold. Keo says, there's a height difference, & the hold looks very small. Len says, what's been it's not the Viennese Waltz. Carrie Ann says, he did the best with what he had. Tom breaks things up. Judges scores: Carrie Ann - 8, Len - 6, Max - 6, Bruno (Tells America to listen to him) - 8, for a total of 27. Tom asks about the dance. Keo says, he created what he could with the height difference. Max says, there was a height difference between him & Meril. We go to commercial break.

 

Tom welcomes us back to America's Switch-Up. We see highlights & practice sessions from this week for Doug & Peta. They are dancing the Tango to Black & Gold by Sam Sparro. The audience cheers & claps for them while dancing & when they are finished.

 

Bruno says, it wasn't all gold, but it wasn't bad at all. He says, it was musicality. He tells Doug to absorb the music into his body. He says, he needs to enjoy & embrace the music, not just step it. Carrie Ann says, she loves this partnership. She says, she didn't think he missed a step & that was filled with content. Max says, it was complete reversal of what Kim & Keo showed. He says he did it all. He tells him to focus on enjoying himself in the weeks to come. They go to the sky box for their scores.

 

Erin says, Karina was screaming up & down for Doug telling him he did it. Erin says, Bill Belichick put a video on Instagram for him. They show the video. Judges scores: Carrie Ann - 7, Len - 7, Max - 7, Bruno - 7, for a total of 28. Doug says, he really loves the scores, & wants to keep improving them. They show a funny video of the couples this week. We go to commercial break.

 

We get a sneak peek backstage & Tom says, there is more dancing to come & James Bay will perform, after this on ABC.

 

Tom welcomes us back to Dancing With The Stars. We see a performance by James Bay playing his song Let It Go. Jenna & Artem dance while he is playing in the ballroom. The audience erupts for all of them when they are finished. Tom says, James Bay's album Chaos is available now.

 

We see highlights & practice sessions from this week for Ginger & Mark. They are dancing the Salsa to La Malanga by Eddie Palmieri. The audience cheers & claps for them while they are dancing, & they erupt for them when they are finished. Val whistles for them when they are finished.

 

Carrie Ann says, last week she defined her as someone to watch, & she's like liquid with whatever partner she has. Len says she did well & he loved it. Max says, she did so well, & he loved it. Bruno says, she has him in a frenzy of excitement, it was hot. Tom says, Ginger & Mark will get their scores after the break, & there will be more Switch-Up dances when they come back, live. Ginger's husband was in the audience shimmying.

 

Erin welcomes us back to Dancing With The Stars. She tells Ginger she doesn't even know how she will have enough energy for tomorrow’s weather report. They show a video of Ginger's husband talking about Val & Mark. Everyone laughs. Judges scores: Carrie Ann - 8, Len - 8, Max - 8, Bruno - 8, for a total of 32. Erin says, it's the highest score of the night. Erin asks Val why he's booing? He says, because that should have been all 9's at least. Tom jokingly says, tonight's show has been brought to you by Magnanimous Love Slaves, referring to the video that was just showed.

 

We see highlights & practice sessions from this week for Antonio & Karina. They are dancing the Cha Cha to Son Of A Preacher Man by Dusty Springfield. The audience claps & cheers for them while they dance, & they erupt for them when they are finished.

 

Len says, it was long on performance, & it was short on technique. He says, there was to much bumping & grinding going on. He says, if he wants to shine, he needs to polish. He says, he needs to get the technique down to perform better. Max says, he's a fan, & everything he's wearing shines. He says, he put a little bit of effort for the performance, but not the content. Bruno says, he think he has the moves, the right package, & the right charisma. He says, it looked like he was dancing in different time zones. He tells him to synchronize the watches & then he will be hot. Carrie Ann says, she agrees with them all. She says, he got all the steps barely, & his form wasn't the greatest. She says, he needs to rehearse more, & bring in the technique from now on. They go to the sky box for their scores. Tom says, this week marks the half-way point in the competition. He says, the judging will get more critical, & they return to their original partners.

 

Erin asks Antonio what he can improve on for next week? He says, he can always improve, & he will work more for next weeks. Judges scores: Carrie Ann - 7, Len - 6, Max - 6, Bruno - 7, for a total of 26. Karina says, that's great. Erin says, that's not what she's thinking. Karina says, the judges are very important, so she thanks them for the scores they gave them. Tom says, there will be more dancing after the break, live.

 

Tom welcomes us back to America's Switch-Up. He shows us the magical 3D Leaderboard. Tom says, so far, Ginger & Mark are at the top with 32 and Antonio & Karina are are trailing at the bottom with 26.

 

We see highlights & practice sessions from this week for Paige & Sasha. They are dancing the Rumba to Perfect by One Direction. The audience cheers for them while they are dancing, & they erupt for them when they are finished.

 

Tom says, that was beautiful. Max tells Paige she is more than capable of winning this show. He says, he had a problem with the dance. Bruno says, she's sexy & he knows it. He says, it was sensual & romantic. He says, it had extended lines & she was dancing from her heart. He says he loved it. Carrie Ann says, her quality of dancing is wonderful. She says she loves watching her dance, & they were spot on tonight. Len says, he saw some open & outs which saved their day. He says, they are precise & have beautiful toning. He says, they need to be more emotional. Carrie Ann is puzzled. The audience boos. Len says, he wants to see her come out more & dance more. He says, it was acceptable but it wasn't exceptional. The audience boos. They go to the sky box for their scores.

 

Erin says, Mark is like, yeah, whatever, after those comments. Mark says, he understands Len, & he's known him for a long time. He says, he will take it on-board going further. Judges scores: Carrie Ann - 8, Len - 8, Max - 7, Bruno - 8, for a total 31. Erin tells the viewers to get their votes in for the couples tonight. Tom says, there will be more dancing after the break, live.

 

We come back to the ballroom with professional dancers dancing the Jive.

 

We see highlights & practice sessions from this week for Von & Lindsay. They are dancing the Jive to Hips by Beans & Fatback. The audience cheers & claps for them while they dance, & they erupt for them when they are finished.

 

Bruno says, big, unconventional & great. He says, he messed up at the beginning & all of his swagger was there. Carrie Ann says, Lindsay was a clever little one, because she went to his style. She says, she worked to his strengths, & delivered a great performance. Len says, it was full of fun & energy. He says, he came out & gave it his all. Max says, it's tough. He says, he looks like he has so much to give, & he gave it his all. He says, Lindsay gets an 11 for what she did. He says, thank God he's not judging the Finale, this is only midway through the season. He tells them to go back to their partners & do better. They go to the sky box for their scores.

 

Erin says, Witney & Lindsay are best friends, & they grew up together. She asks him what the differences are? Von says, they aren't that much different. Judges scores: Carrie Ann - 8, Len - 7, Max - 7, Bruno - 7, for a total of 29. Erin says, Max is loving that 7 paddle tonight. Tom says, it's come to a point now that jealousy has come down to he doesn't fart as much around you, referring to Von farting around Witney & Lindsay. Tom says, there will be more dancing after the break, live.

 

Tom welcomes us back to America's Switch-Up on Dancing With The Stars. We see highlights from this week for Nyle & Sharna. They are going to dance the Viennese Waltz to I Get To Love You by Ruelle. The audience cheers & claps for them while they are dancing, & they really erupt for them when they are finished.

 

Carrie Ann is trying to stop crying. She says, WOW! She tells him he takes her breath away. She says, she thought he was at a disadvantage at the beginning of this competition, but he's at an advantage telling stories with his body. She says, he was born to dance. Len says, he's a total eclipse, & he's fantastic. Max says, it's hard to comprehend this, he knows him & knows him well. He tells him it's the best dance of the night, & they did an amazing job. Bruno says, he has to be a fool not fall head over heals in love with that performance. Tom asks if he feels when he's dancing. Nyle says, yes, he incorporates it all in the dance, & through Sharna also. They go to the Red Room for their scores.

 

Erin says, she loves the hug with Nyle, Peta & Sharna. She asks Nyle why he's crying? He says, there's so much connection. Judges scores: Carrie Ann - 9, Len - 10, Maks - 10, Bruno - 10, there was a glitch. The only 10 was supposed to be from Len. So the scores should be Carrie Ann - 9, Len - 10, Maks - 9, Bruno - 9, for a total of 37. We go to commercial break.

 

I want to make apologize for spelling Maks name wrong as Max all evening. It should be Maks!

 

Tom welcomes us back to the ballroom. Tom says, when the judges makes the scores, they right them on a pad of paper & hand them into the control room. He says, regardless of what the judges hold up, that is the final score.

 

We see highlights & practice sessions from this week for Jodie & Val. They are dancing the Paso Doble to Under Control by Calvin Harris & Alesso Featuring Hurts. The audience claps & cheers for them while they are dancing, & they really erupt for them when they are finished.

 

Len says, last week she was lemonade & this week she is champagne. He says, full of attack & purpose. Maks says, she was amazing this week, & thinks she can be in the Finale. Bruno says, turbo charged & on fire. He thanks her for all the Spanish content. Carrie Ann says, for her that was by far her best dance, & she was in the zone. Tom asks what she did not to be rattled this week? Jodie says, she had fun & it's just a dance. Judges scores: Carrie Ann - 9, Len - 8, Maks - 9, Bruno - 9, for a total of 35.

 

Tom tells the viewers to get all their votes in tonight. Erin says, at the top of the leaderboard is Nyle & at the bottom is Antonio. Tom Jimmy Kimmel Live will be on later tonight, & up next is an all new Castle. He says, they will be back next Monday at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT. He says, good night!
