Dancing With The Stars ~ U.S. Season 21 Episode 1

Season 21 of Dancing With The Stars opens with the stars & professional partners on the street doing some dance steps.

 

There is a crowd of people being the dancers in the streets. They show the opening of all of the dancers on stage in the ballroom as if they ran from the streets.

 

Tom says, we just witnessed the best street closure ever, & the opening of this season of Dancing With The Stars. The first couple to dance tonight is going to be Victor Espinoza & Karina Smirnoff. We see highlights & practice sessions for them for this week.

 

Victor & Karina are dancing the Salsa to G.D.F.R by Flo Rida. The audience really enjoyed them. Tom says, he's wearing his Len Goodman commemorative pocket square since he's not with them this year. He welcomes a recent Emmy Award Winner, Julianne Hough. She says, that was a fun & interesting way to start this season. She really enjoyed his hip action. She says, she thought he would be stiff down there. She says, good things come in small packages.

 

Bruno says, he doesn’t get that every day at the race track. He says, he has to get more basics & be more on time. He can’t wait for next week. Carrie Ann says, he’s adorable. She didn’t expect him to come out like a Latin lover. She says, there was no Salsa, but he horsed it up. They go to the Sky Box with Erin.

 

Erin welcomes Karina back for this season. Victor says, Karina is amazing & she has taught him a lot. Victor is standing on a box because he’s a lot shorter than Karina. Judges scores: Carrie Ann – 5, Julianne – 5, & Bruno – 5, for a total of 15. Erin tells them they need to get their scores up. Tom says, there are definitely opening night jitters, & there is more to come after the break.

 

Tom welcomes us back to the ballroom & the judges are dancing at their table. The next couple to dance is Tamar Braxton & Valentin Chmerkovskiy. We see highlights & practice sessions for them for this week. They are dancing the Quickstep to Do Your Thing by Basement Jaxx.

 

The audience goes crazy for them. Tom tells them they had a lot of pep in their step. Bruno says, they have high volume, high octane energy. He says, there was a tiny misplacement in the feet, but it’s week one. Carrie Ann says, they blew her away. She says, it’s week 1, & that’s one of the hardest dances to do. Julianne tells them it was very smooth, they just need to watch her back so it doesn’t go back so far. She says, it was great for week 1. They go to the Sky Box with Erin.

 

Erin tells Tamar he co-hosts are there holding up signs for her to slay it. She explains a little bit about how to do the Quickstep. Val says, she doesn’t have to arch that back, it’s already there. Judges scores: Carrie Ann – 8, Julianne – 7, Bruno – 8, for a total of 23. Erin says, everyone at home needs to vote for their favorites tonight. Erin says, they will be back live after the break.

 

Professional dancers dance us back to the ballroom. The next couple to dance is Chaka Khan & Keo Motsepe. We see highlights & practice sessions from them for this week. They are dancing the Cha Cha to I Feel For You by Chaka Khan.

 

The crowd really likes them & shows it will their applause & cheers. Carrie Ann says, that was her groove in high school. She says, it’s fantastic & she’s honored to have her there. She says, it was soo much fun that she sometimes forgot the steps. She says, it’s only week 1 though. Julianne says, a glorious entrance for a glorious woman. She tells her she’s honored to have her as well, & to only work on the space she has. Bruno says, he feels like he’s with royalty. He tells her the Cha Cha starts with the foot placement, & if it’s off, everything else will be off. He says, her personality is superb.

 

Judges scores: Carrie Ann – 5, Julianne – 4, Bruno – 4, for a total of 13. Chaka says, she’s open for all she can get & she’s all about learning. Tom says, the judges scores & the viewer votes will determine who goes home. There’s more to come after the break, live.

 

Tom welcomes us back to the Dancing With The Stars Season Premier. The next couple to dance is Hayes Grier & Emma Slater. They are dancing the Cha Cha to Cheerleader by Omi. The audience really enjoyed them as well with a great applause & cheers.

 

Julianne says, that just got her really really excited. She says, he has a natural ability & needs to focus on his core & open his eyes. She says, his timing was a little off. Bruno says, he’s Season 21 boy wonder. He says, he’s more than a few seconds, he can watch him for an hour.  Carrie Ann says, she watches him & thinks if she was just 30 years younger, she would still be too old for him. She says, he is great to watch, & he has great stage presence. She tells him to keep his eyes open. They go to the red room with Erin.

 

Erin has Nash Grier there to see his brother. Erin jokes that Carrie Ann was throwing herself at him. Hayes says, if he can get a few ladies that would be great. Erin asks if they will see the T-Rex coming up? Emma says, yes. They joke with Derek. Judges scores: Carrie Ann – 7, Julianne – 7, Bruno – 7, for a total of 21. Hayes thanks his brother & family. Erin says, everyone needs to get their votes in.

 

Tom introduces the highlights & practice sessions for Andy Grammer & Allison Holker from this week. Tom says, Andy & Allison will Foxtrot when we come back, live.

 

Tom welcomes us back to the DWTS Season Premier. Andy & Allison dance the Foxtrot to Marvin Gaye by Charlie Puth featuring Meghan Trainor. Bruno says, for a first time tackling the Foxtrot he did very well. Andy thanks him. Bruno says, sometimes he was a little jerky & his foot work was off a little bit. He says, for the first time it was extremely well done. Carrie Ann tells him that his mother was smiling down. She says, he needs to work on a better connection with Allison & it will be amazing. Julianne says, she loved it, & she disagrees with Carrie Ann. She says, it has musicality & the connection was there. She says, he was present in every single move he did. They go to the Sky Box with Erin.

 

Erin says, Andy warned her today during Dress Rehearsals that he is a sensitive guy. Andy says, when he stepped on the floor he was thinking of his mom, & how she would love to be there. Judges scores: Carrie Ann – 7, Julianne -7, Bruno -7, for a total of 21. Erin says, they do need votes to escape elimination.

 

Tom introduces highlights & practice sessions for the week from Paula Deen & Louis Van Amstel. Tom says, they will Quickstep next live, when we return.

 

Tom welcomes us back to the ballroom. Paula & Louis dance the Quickstep to Hey Good Lookin’ by Carol Welsman. The audience goes crazy for them when they are finished dancing. Tom asks Paula if she’s doing o.k.? Paula says, she was scared. She says, she had white underwear when she started & it may not be white anymore.

 

Carrie Ann says, that’s a little TMI. She says, she sees a lot of potential with her, but then it all didn’t quite come together. She tells her to use Louis & not just follow him. Julianne says, she was holding on to Louis for dear life. She says, there may have been a little too much going on. She says, week 1 is done, & come back next week. Bruno says, the worst is over, & she needs to relax. He says, she was attached to Louis like a barnacle. Paula wants to do it again. Tom says, there are other couples waiting in the wings. They go to Erin in the Red Room.

 

Erin talks with Bindi Irwin & Nick Carter saying it’s scary. Paula & Louis go by Erin. Judges scores: Carrie Ann – 5, Julianne – 5, Bruno – 5, for a total of 15. Louis says, it’s the beginning of a journey & they are here to stay.

 

Tom introduces a married couple that will be competing separately with different partners. Carlos PenaVega will be with Witney Carson, & Alexa PenaVega will be with Mark Ballas. We see the highlights & practice sessions for them from this week.

 

Carlos & Witney dance the Jive to I Got You (I Feel Good) by James Brown. The audience is cheering along with them as they dance. They get loud applause & cheers when they are finished dancing.

 

Tom asks if he thinks Alexa is nervous? Carlos says, he doesn’t know. Julianne says, she thinks he’s the most natural performer they’ve seen so far tonight. She says, he looks like a man. She says, he needs to go full on with his energy. Bruno says, yes, he sees the devil inside of him. He says, it was a great performance. He says, he needs to work on the flex foot. Carrie Ann says, the musicality is off the charts, & she thought it was fabulous. Tom says, they will find out the scores after his wife dances, when they come back, live.

 

Tom welcomes us back to the DWTS Live Season Premier. Alexa PenVega & Mark Ballas dance the Jive to Whistle (While You Work It) by Katy Tiz. The audience claps along with them while they dance. They erupt in applause & cheers for them. Tom tells them they have to be happy with that.

 

Bruno says, it was like Mr. & Mrs. Smith. He says, hot & sexy Latina, that’s the way he likes it. Carrie Ann tells her she is soo beautiful out there, & she just needs to watch the arm that’s not in hold. Julianne says, she felt like there was soo much content in there, & that was one of the hardest Jive’s she’s seen. She tells them to keep it up. They go to the Sky Box with Erin.

 

Erin says, this is their first married couple, & Carlos is screaming sexy momma. Carlos & Witney’s judges scores: Carrie Ann – 8, Julianne – 8, Bruno – 7, for a total of 23. Erin wonders if the scores will beat his wife’s? Carlos says, he needs to ask wardrobe if Alexa can take her costume home because she looks hot. Alexa covers her face, as it turn red. Alexa & Mark’s judges scores: Carrie Ann – 7, Julianne – 7, Bruno – 8, for a total of 22. Erin asks if she will ask wardrobe to take her costume home? Alexa says, if it makes her husband happy she will. Erin says, they need votes to keep them both here. More dances to come after the break.

 

We come back to the ballroom with professional dancers on the dance floor. Tom welcomes us back to the DWTS Season Premier. He introduces highlights & practice sessions for Kim Zolciak-Biermann and Tony Dovolani from this week. They are dancing the Salsa to Hey Mama by David Guetta featuring Nicki Minaj, Afrojack & Bebe Rexha. The audience gives them applause & cheers when they are finished dancing.

 

Tom asks Kim if she’s o.k.? Kim says, she works soo hard to get there, & then you think you did it. Carrie Ann says, she’s such a beautiful woman & she did it. She tells Kim that she feels she held back & she wants to see more Pow next week. Julianne says, her sister has 6 kids, & she knows that fierce. She says, she wants to see it because she knows it’s in her. Bruno says, this dance can be grounds for divorce, because she has to deliver. Kim says, she’s glad she did it. Bruno tells her she has to perform it & sell it. Kim says, it’s strange to be without her husband. They go to the Sky Box with Erin.

 

Erin says, she’s a huge fan of hers, she has 6 kids, & her husband is on Monday Night Football right now. She says, it’s one thing to do Reality TV & another thing to dance with another man. Judges scores: Carrie Ann – 4, Julianne – 4, Bruno – 4, for a total of 12. Erin says, she can’t wait for next week. Kim says, her daughter was thinking, really? Tom says, other cast members were showing their disapproval as well.

 

Tom introduces highlights & practice sessions for Bindi Irwin & two time Emmy Winner Derek Hough form this week. They dance the Jive to Crocodile Rock by Elton John. The audience is clapping & cheering along while they dance. The audience gives them the biggest applause & cheers of the night so far.

 

Tom congratulates Derek for his second Emmy. Tom says, that’s the loudest response so far tonight. Julianne says, this competition is about the whole package, & it’s the best performance of the night. Bruno says, it’s the best performance as well, & it has everything. He says, people love her. Carrie Ann says, she would want to be her best friend, because her energy is so contagious if she was 30 years younger. Tom comments that if Carrie Ann was 30 years younger she would date Hayes & be Bindi’s best friend. He says, we will get their scores when we come back live.

 

We come back to the ballroom with the band singing. Erin welcomes us back saying Bindi & Derek had the biggest applause of the evening. Bindi is really excited. Judges scores: Carrie Ann – 8, Julianne – 8, Bruno- 8, for a total of 24. Erin tells them that’s the highest score of the night. Erin tells everyone to get their votes in for all the couples you want to stay.

 

Tom introduces highlights & practice sessions for Gary Busey & Anna Trebunskaya from this week. They dance the Cha Cha to Dancing in the Street by David Bowie & Mick Jagger. The audience claps along with them dancing & erupts for them when they are finished dancing.

 

Tom asks Gary if it was all he knew it would be? Gary says, he dances in a cosmos of riddles & he’s very happy. Gary tells Tom his left eye is spinning when he talks to him. Bruno tells him it was like watching a summer blockbuster, yet he kept watching. Carrie Ann welcomes Anna back. He tells Gary he’s in great hands with her. She says, in dance he has to give it his all, & he was 1,000% with every move. Julianne says, they don’t want him to stop. She says, he’s larger than life & they were entertained. She says, she doesn’t know how much of a Cha Cha it was, but he stole their hearts, & probably stole America’s hearts as well. They go to the Red Room with Erin.

 

Erin says, everyone is clapping & she calls Anna, Russia with Love. Erin asks Gary how much fun he had out there? Gary says, he paid everyone $1.00 to do that. He says, no he didn’t. He says, he is happy & humble that Anna helped him. He dedicates the dance to his mom. Judges scores: Carrie Ann – 5, Julianne – 5, Bruno – 5, for a total of 15. Erin tells them to come back next week & get everyone to vote for them. Gary starts reading Erin’s card. She tells him he can do whatever he wants & calls him a cutie. Tom says, more couples will dance when they come back, live.

 

Tom welcomes us back to the ballroom. Erin introduces highlights & practice sessions for Alek Skarlatos & Lindsay Arnold from this week. They dance the Foxtrot to Ten Feet Tall by Afrojack featuring Wrabel. The audience is on their feet & clapping along with them while they dance. They erupt in applause & cheers for them when they are finished.

 

Tom tells Alek, it’s soo good to have him on the show. Alek thanks him. Tom says, he represented all of the hope we wish we all could be while on the train overseas. Carrie Ann says, she did not expect that at all. She says, he came out & just showed them one of the best dances of the night. She tells Lindsay she did a great job teaching him. She says, he took her breath away. Julianne says, he’s representing everyone in America that wishes they could be there right now. She tells Lindsay her choreography was beautiful. Lindsay thanks her. Bruno says, he’s born to ballroom. He tells him to be careful in the links. He tells him it was outstanding. They go to the Sky Box with Erin.

 

Erin thanks Tom, as they make their way to her. Erin wants to echo what Tom said to him. Judges scores: Carrie Ann – 8, Julianne – 7, Bruno – 7, for a total of 22. Erin says, not bad for a guy that’s never danced before. Lindsay says, they’ll take it. Erin says, phone lines will stay open for 1 hour after the show. Tom says, Nick Carter & Sharna Burgess will dance live, when we come back.

 

Tom welcomes us back to DWTS. He introduces highlights & practice sessions for Nick Carter & Sharna Burgess. They are dancing the Cha Cha to I Don’t Like It, I Love It by Flo Rida featuring Robin Thicke. The audience is clapping along with them as they dance. They audience erupts for them when they are finished. Tom tells them they did a good job. He says, nice finish, he popped the top.

 

Julianne says, she’s blushing a little bit because he was on her wall also. She says, what a way to wrap up the night. She says, they were going off & on time & it was very creative. Bruno says, if they continue like this they will make it to the finals. Carrie Ann says, she thought he was excellent, but he didn’t start out strong in the beginning. She says, he kicked it back in & killed it. Tom asks when it kicked in, because he didn’t seem nervous that long. Nick says, when his pants popped.

 

Judges scores: Carrie Ann – 8, Julianne – 8, Bruno – 8, for a total of 24. They are tied for the top of the leaderboard with Bindi & Derek. Tom gives the numbers to call for votes with the next hour. They can get 13 votes each. Kim & Tony are at the bottom of the leaderboard. Erin says, the lowest scoring couple will be eliminated, so get your votes in. Tom says, they will see everyone again live next Monday. He says, there’s an all new Jimmy Kimmel Live tonight. He tells everyone goodnight.
